Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

amazing, you read and study a book handed to you by the Catholic church 2,000 years after they wrote it and insist that you can interpret it better than could the learned people who studied and kept it alive for 20 centuries.

And a BUNCH of them were QUOTED in#1463.

You are an amazing person, even I couldn't do that.

You can't even (or WON'T) touch what YOUR learned people said in #1463.

reference please so I can see what you object to...

Golly; a game I can play; too!

let's see now... you conducted a private study of the bible and some other related books and came to the conclusion that your interpretation of the bible was correct and that of the 2,000 year old Catholic and hstorical church was wrong.....Pathetic.

... but to think that God would condemn to hell those humans who had no knowledge of Him and Salvation would be dishonoring God far more than I would dare to do!!

I'm so glad that I do not have to think about it at all!

Romans 2:12-16

12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

Even little children know what the red letters in a New Testament mean. You have confessed you don't.

It seems to me your denomination, sect, or group has a tradition differentiating the Bible by textual color depending on the speaker/voice. You imply you teach your little children this way. Does that tradition hold the words quoting Jesus have more value, power, or inspiration than the words quoting Moses ? or Elijah ? or Baalam ?

but none even came close to the solemnity of a Catholic Mass.....not even remotely close.

Do you know WHY this is so?

Problem is, the men who penned it are dead so cannot be consulted. However, the born again believer has the true Author of Scripture living within them and HE can tell us what was meant and how to apply it to our lives.

the vast majority of people who recorded history are dead which in no way impunges their testimony...I've never met Abraham Lincoln but I can certainly know and respect what he believed. The so called "born again believer" has decided that the Holy Spirit will bypass the normal teaching authority of the Catholic church and appear to each of you as_________??who knows what and personally guide you in the way of the lord....good luck with that!!

All of us are in this boat.

Typing (and with a time delay that can vary widely) is a poor method of communication.

In the Revelation, Yeshua states plainly that there are only 12 apostles.

He most certainly does, and there are only twelve thrones for the Apostles and they will judge the twelve tribes of Israel. Saul was the Apostle to the Gentiles. Matthias was with Yeshua from the baptism of John and an eyewitness of his ascension. His ministry was to the lost sheep of the house of Israel like the other original apostles. It is an interesting question as to who will be on those 24 thrones for the Elders and Apostles.

When you get the message “Discuss the issues, do not make it personal” take a good look at the post number it is addressing.

Read the offending post carefully and do not break the mindreading/personal rule again.

I did NOT say that if Mary had been sinless, she could not have died. What I said was this:Additionally, if she had been sinless, she would not have died. The wages of sin is death. If she died, it is proof positive that she had sinned,

line 1 does not sem to agree with line 2 :I did not say that if Mary had been sinless, she could not have died......followed by if she had been sinless she would not have died

then you stated that if she died,it is proof positive that she had sinned

I merely pointed out that Jesus died is that also proof positive???

This is perhaps a fine example of why the Catholic church does not think its laity is capable of correctly interpreting Scripture.

they aren't, and neither are you, that is exactly why Christ instructed us to follow the teachigs of the church rather than try to interpret them for ourselves..For example, you have dtated that you don't believe in Christ's admonition to "eat of this, this is My Body and Drink of this, this is My Blood" and therefore "unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of His Blood, you shall not have life within you" and John 6:54.

good luck with your own interpretations but I will stick with the Catholic interpretation of biblical scriptures.

no one denies that you can enjoy the benefits of belonging to a social club...fellowship, chicken dinners...GREAT, but don't confuse that with the benefit of attending and participating in a Catholic Mass as Christ mandated.

Do tell. Give us the Scripture that tells us about Christ mandating Catholic mass.

How merciful would God be if He sent you first to be “perfected” in purgatory before seeing paradise?

ABSOLUTELY merciful....kept me out of hell for my shortcomings but required me to purge myself of that evil by awaiting a guaranteed presence in Heaven until I had done so.

But what about the hard case of the person who is ignorant of Christ and His Church, through no fault of his own. Is he damned? If so, how can that be reconciled with God's nature as Justice Itself? What do you say, in your interpretation of Scripture? Catholics recognize that God is Justice Itself, and cannot damn a person because of his ignorance of Christ. If that's what you think, you should seriously examine your belief.

Don't FRoman Catholics often scold others for "limiting God" by questioning how Mary can possibly "hear" the prayers of millions simultaneously? So why is it okay to think it's not possible for God to reward those who diligently seek him?

I won't give "my" interpretation of Scripture, but simply post what Scripture actually DOES say concerning the "ignorant savages" Roman Catholicism says are ignorant of Christ.

We already know that ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23) and there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins (Eccl. 7:20). We also are told, "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom. 6:23) as well as, "For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul." (Lev. 17:11).

Whether a person acknowledges it or not, we ALL need a Savior, a Redeemer who saves us from the penalty of our sins. Is it truthful to say a person has NO knowledge of God or his need of redemption? Not according to God, who says, "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." (Romans 1:18-20) God created man with an internal awareness of the creator and the design and order of man's world demonstrates that truth.

But mankind is at enmity with God, he has a heart that is "deceitful above all things and desperately wicked" (Jer. 17:9), so, "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised." (Rom. 1:21-25) And that applies to people from ANYWHERE, even in America!

BUT... God "desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (I Tim. 2:4) and "it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him." (Heb 11:6). God promises, "I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me." (Prov. 8:17) and, "You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. 'I will be found by you,' declares the LORD" (Jer. 29:13,14).

God will never renege on his promises and we cannot limit God, the work of the Holy Spirit, who is in the world and, "will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment" (John 16:8), God is calling His elect, from every nation, tongue and people, and WILL be found by those who are searching for Him with diligence and sincerity - even in the deepest, darkest jungles of Africa or in a shiny, modern first-world country. Is not God able to do all that He says He will? I say, YES. There ARE no "hard cases" to God.

Ron Boatright holds that the Protestant denominations, in addition to the Catholic/Orthodox denominations teach a false doctrine of salvation.

Below are brief descriptions giving where and when each of the denominations listed began and who started them. Also given are some of their basic beliefs especially what they falsely teach and practice that one must do to be saved.

Do you agree with him ?
