Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?
As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.
Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

A local assembly does not have to meet some Catholic's opinion of what a *true* church is to be a good place to assemble for fellowship and worship. no one denies that you can enjoy the benefits of belonging to a social club...fellowship, chicken dinners...GREAT, but don't confuse that with the benefit of attending and participating in a Catholic Mass as Christ mandated.

While growing up Catholic I always had the notion something didnt quite add up. Ive had the same experience in several other churches. It wasnt until I read His Word that I could identify the problems oh please...didn't add up, tried new curches, but finally interpreted scripture on my own?????? O.K., I guess,

And then Mathias was never heard from again, and then Yeshua, the only one that can appoint an apostle, chose Saul of Tarsus instead. Men cannot appoint an apostle. Yes, I know there are more than a few Protestants/Evangelical/Other groups that take this view. As an excercise, try listing the times the Twelve Original Apostles were mentioned in the scriptures after Mathias was mentioned. Catholics are not trapped in the Solo Scriptural paradox. It is also difficult to be consistent when you have no surviving Hebrew scriptures from the New Testament books; only the Greek survived apparently.

but to think that God would condemn to hell those humans who had no knowledge of Him and Salvation would be dishonoring God far more than I would dare to do!!
Yet Catholics believe accepting Jesus’ sacrifice, placing our faith on Him, is not sufficient for us to enter God's presence.
How merciful would God be if He sent you first to be “perfected” in purgatory before seeing paradise?

I do respect the fact that the RCC is the singular entity within organized religion that unflinchingly stands up for the unborn... Singular?
Are you SURE?

FWIW, rejecting the false teachings and religion of Catholicism is NOT rejecting Jesus Christ. Rejecting false teaching about Mary does not equate to rejecting Jesus Christ. Rejecting the self-proclaimed infallibility of the pope and magisterium is not rejecting Jesus. sure it is

You're referring to my "twisting of Scripture" in post #2435 I'm referring to "ignoring of Scripture" in post #1463

2435 shows that the historical evidence, recorded in the Bible, goes back to the Davidic kingdom. Bible, goes back to the Davidic kingdom. Post #1463 shows that the historical evidence, recorded by the Church in Rome, goes against the current teaching of the Church in Rome.
Our FR Catholics don't care.

And of course we ALL know Ignatius of Antioch wrote in modern day English and when he used the adjective "catholic" he must have meant the Roman Catholic church, right??? ☺

With all due respect, I don't find your exegesis compelling. I can't be concerned with the effect that my beliefs have on you, because I'm telling you what I truly believe.
What you 'believe'; apparently; is that you can use a SPECIFIC instance of 'listening to the church' and apply it across the board.
This is typical Catholic teaching: find one thing and then make the claim it applies to anything it wishes.

In the Revelation, Yeshua states plainly that there are only 12 apostles.
There was never a reason for men to believe that they could appoint an apostle. There is nothing in scripture to support the notion. Even the passage in Acts shows that it was a bungling exercise in nicolaitanism.
Men cannot know the heart of another man.

I am grateful for the rapproachment between Catholics and Jews in my generation. It hasn't ALWAYS been this way?
