Cardinal Walter Kasper continued to defend his proposal to allow Communion for some divorced and remarried Catholics, and to assail critics of that proposal, in a new interview.

The German cardinal said that his critics are fearful that “if you change one point, all would collapse.” Dismissing such fears of a “domino effect,” he said that his critics were displaying “a theological fundamentalism which is not Catholic.”

What does the Pope say? What would Jesus do?

The German cardinal said that his critics are fearful that “if you change one point, all would collapse.” Dismissing such fears of a “domino effect,” he said that his critics were displaying “a theological fundamentalism which is not Catholic.”

The term [Fundamentalism] was born when conservative Protestants in early-20th-century America committed themselves to defend the five "fundamentals" of their faith -- the inerrancy of the Bible, virgin birth and deity of Jesus, doctrine of atonement, bodily resurrection of Jesus, and His imminent return.

Fundamentalist: A term created during the turn-of-the-20th-century Protestant church splits to define those who held to the “fundamentals” of Christianity—the inerrancy of the Bible, the virgin birth of Jesus and his literal resurrection from the dead. The term is now considered pejorative. (Wheaton College philosophy professor Alvin Plantinga famously observed, “The full meaning of the term…can be given by something like ‘stupid sumbitch whose theological opinions are considerably to the right of mine.’”)

Divorced and remarried Catholics typically don’t quit going to church. They just join some other church.

A clear-cut case of Collection Basket Envy.

It’s the Kasparite types of the Church who would give communion to “all” - i.e., divorced-remarrieds, active gays, etc. “All” that is, except those who would like to reverently receive communion on one’s knees and upon one’s tongue. “Funny” how that works.

“The German cardinal said that his critics are fearful that ‘if you change one point, all would collapse.’”

Yes, sorta like the eventual near universal acceptance of artificial birth control in the Christian world(including Catholics) after the 1930 Lambeth conference.

Any Christian who recites the Apostles Creed (Or the Nicene Creed) and believes it, is a Fundamentalist:

Father Almighty, Creator
Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son
Conceived By The Holy Spirit
Born of The Virgin Mary
Suffered Under Pontius Pilate
Was Crucified, Died and Was Buried
Arose on the Third Day, According to the Scriptures
Ascended into heaven
Seated at the Right Hand of the Father
Will Come Again in Glory to Judge the Living and The Dead
The Holy Spirit Who Spoke Through the prophets and is adored and glorified with the Father and The Son
The Universal Body of Christ
The Resurrection of the Dead
Life everlasting.

I guess that makes me a “Fundamentalist”!

Very interesting choice of words. He is trying to say “Hey, you don’t want to be like those PROTESTANTS do you?”

In other words, this is pure propaganda.

...i can see you just ain’t with the program in the post conciliar church...kneeling to receive is going to ‘hold up’ the conga line working it way up the aisle, threatening to miss the breakfast and dinner early bird specials...and receiving on the tongue...ewww...

Ooh, "fundamentalism!" The worst crime in the world from the Roman Catholic/Eastern Orthodox perspective! Worse than murderers, atheists, and "satanists" all put together!

It must be considering that these communities treat simple literalism as if it were leprosy and spend all their time trying to get intellectuals to convert to chrstianity by begging "don't judge us by those awful people!"

Now I guess Catholics will have to admit divorced and remarried people to communion. Y'know, because nobody wants to be an inbred moron from an Alabama trailer park.

Don't forget "Biblical literalists." They'd be kicked out on their ear.

The cat is already out of the bag. You can receive communion if you fund abortions.

If it does, then why do Catholic clergy and publications spend so much time damning "fundamentalism?" They're far more hostile to "fundamentalism" than they are to homosexuality or abortion.

Besides, what Catholic anywhere ever believed Genesis 1-11 actually happened?

Yeah, but don't interpret the Bible "literally." They'll tell you that's un-Catholic and to get out of the church.

If they deleted some other part, would that make it any less wrong?

That's exactly what it is.

Liberal Catholics seem to hate Fundamentalist Protestants above and beyond anything else in existence (and "conservative" Catholics aren't far behind them). They can't get enough of liberal Protestants, however.

Correct. Kind of funny in a way. Especially after the article posted about how if you believe in the Bible you’re as good as a muslim. Of course nowadays that is ahead of Protestants in the Catholic Church
