We were told not to make graven images in the ten commandments.

Stopped by Turkey this summer and saw the small place (Now a church) where Mary last lived and where the Assumption is believed by the Catholic church to have happened.

Stopped by Turkey this summer and saw the small place (Now a church) where Mary is alleged to have last lived and where the Assumption is believed by the Catholic church to have happened.

After 2,000 years, it's kind of hard to point to something like that as definitive.

Even if *Virgin Mary lived here* were carved into the walls, it wouldn't PROVE anything.

* IV. "YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF A GRAVEN IMAGE . . .">

2132 The Christian veneration of images is not contrary to the first commandment which proscribes idols. Indeed, "the honor rendered to an image passes to its prototype," and "whoever venerates an image venerates the person portrayed in it."70 The honor paid to sacred images is a "respectful veneration," not the adoration due to God alone:

Religious worship is not directed to images in themselves, considered as mere things, but under their distinctive aspect as images leading us on to God incarnate. The movement toward the image does not terminate in it as image, but tends toward that whose image it is.71 -CCC

The picture is WAY too ‘busy’ for something as simplistic as a cereal box.

Look at who’s the centerpiece in the Catholic home altar......

Now THIS I could work with on a cereal box...

Am I the only one who sees an Icon of Jesus Christ
above Mary? It looks similar to the image shown.

Theology is for those that reject the word of God.

The word is for his elect.

Yeshua appointed disciples and apostles, but not so much as one theologian; ever wonder why?

I stand corrected, those quotes are in the World Council of Churches translation.

The Catholic Bible.

I use Christian Bibles.

Don't bet your life on that Syncro.

I certainly hope you don't bet your life on ANYTHING! My life belongs to Jesus, it's not mine to wager.

That being said, You Bet Your Life was a fun TV show.

I remember when I was on it the secret word was purgatory. I won $100 when the duck dropped from the heavens with the word in it's beak!

I see the controversy has been cleared up, there is only ONE mortal sin, not a long list of them.

But the wages of sin is death (from the Christian Bible)

*alter** What are you altering?

What has the Catholic belief system altered?

You don't yet get that the use of the word alter instead of altar shows how different belief systems have "altered" God's plan with altars to false Gods and Mary?

Nitpicking over mispillings and thypos and asking inane questions is a lot easier than explaining away the many unBiblical rules/beliefs/practices isn't it?

Mary has become the center of the Catholic religion, as shown by this

Catholic "Alter"

Notice who is the central figure in the picture (not to mention higher than Jesus as are angels [should I have capitalized "Angels?"]) of a place where Catholics kneel down and give "adoration."

“Vatican” Bob sez: I find no reason to believe there are any Fang and Claws Protestants in Rome.

No, they have converted.

I imagine that if God gave us a small glimpse of the spiritual warfare in the “heavens” of the Vatican we would see much worse than fangs and claws in use by the entities fighting the Angels [I almost spilled that Angles to try to catch the Vatican spilling police] of God.

...."Look at who’s the centerpiece in the Catholic home altar......"

Actually they often 'switch' icons and relics out, depending on what or whom their church is celebrating at any given time.....Mary might be replaced with one of their Saint's statues or even the Pope......but yes, mostly Mary is their centerpiece from all that I saw.

It's like this is Roman Catholic "think":

Pagan Idol Worship condemned by scripture.

Catholics venerating mary

Pagan idol worship condemed in scripture

Catholics venerating

If you do not make the effort to learn about Mary's role in our salvation (during your lifetime), there's purgatory, which awaits most all of us who escape h*ll.
Christians do not go to purgatory.

It does not exist. If it did, why would Jesus wipe out all of our sins and make us "white as snow?"

I think that because Catholics insist the purgatory exists, God may give you the desires of your hearts and create a fictional purgatory for you to languish until the salvation which comes from Jesus enters your mind.

Remember the "twinkling of and eye" scripture. That's a small amount of time to swivel a head from looking adoringly at Mary and putting your eyes on Jesus.

Make sure there is oil in your lamp.

“none of the “Protestants” turned you in for bad behavior”

I have not exhibited any “bad behavior.”

Well, you were the one that said that Christians turned you in for bad behavior, but now we see that NO one turned you in for anything. I personally prefer to have some objectionable false information posts left up so we can see who says what.

Plus posting false information isn't bad behavior? LOL glad they left that one up!

no Catholic has exceeded 15 here, and that only under extreme provocation.

Gimme a break! There's that thinskinned thingie raising it's ugly head again.

Funny, the Mormons also used to call posting the truth about their belief system "extreme provocation" also.

You need to look up the difference between “made up” and “observed.”

Ok, I did. Still don't see and fang and claws posters here, at least not from the Protestant/Christian contingency

Projection maybe?

No comment on your apparently bitter and hateful digs at the mods.

putting the word “opinion” in danger quotes.

LOL @ "danger quotes." Ok, howabout this? opinion

“As has been mentioned many times, if you (or any poster) is too thinskinned for the open threads, they should not be on them.”

“What’s wrong with that. It sounds like good advice to me?”

I really hate a bully.

There's that thinskinned thingie again.

"I didn't like what you said, you are a bully"!

They haven’t been “arguing,” in the correct sense of the word. The only argument they have is “it ain’t in da Biibull,” which is also true of things like the weather on the day of Jesus’ baptism. Since it’s not in the Bible, I assume there was no weather on that day. It was neither hot nor cold nor medium, it was neither sunny nor cloudy, windy nor not windy...there just wasn’t any weather that day, because it isn’t mentioned in the Bible.
Something as astounding as Mary being assumed into heaven [(not to mention being born without sin (her and Jesus huh?,) remaining a virgin all her life, not having maritial relations with her husband after giving birth to Jesus], I daresay would be important enough for God to have his Spirit lead one of the writers of the Bitle to include it. (it's a bit more important than the weather...)

“they (we) use the Bible...”

...incorrectly, to propagate error.

Ok, show me the error in any Biblical quote.

Interesting your use of the phrase "neither hot nor cold"

So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.--Rev 3:16

Boatbums, thank you for your excellent reply to this post that I am finally getting around to addressing!

I must not have gotten the scripture that includes the "unless" clause.

Could you please tell me where to find where it has the: "thou shalt not make any graven images unless......" line?

>>Religious worship is not directed to images in themselves, considered as mere things, but under their distinctive aspect as images leading us on to God incarnate.<<

And you thought the pagans thought that those idols were the actual god? Here is what God has to say.

Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God:

Catholics are doing exactly as God said not too.

Christ still dead on the cross. Satan must love that image being broadcast to the world.
