The Russian Orthodox Church has cancelled an official doctrinal dialogue with the Finnish Lutheran Church over the Lutheran stance on homosexuality. The Orthodox side wanted to pre-approve a communique before the meeting, but talks broke down over the Finns refusal to condemn homosexuality.
Finnish and Russian attitudes to gay rights are poles apart, and thats helping to derail doctrinal dialogues between the two countries largest religions. Archbishop Kari Mäkinen says that he was forced to cancel planned ecumenical dialogues when he met the Russia Patriarch Kiril in Moscow.
The Russian Orthodox Church wanted to agree a statement in advance, as the meeting was scheduled to discuss anthropologyan area where sexuality was bound to come up.
Our churchs line, which doesnt directly condemn homosexuality, is such that from their point of view they dont want to continue official ecumenical discussions, said Mäkinen.
Mäkinen said that the Russian side wanted to agree a negative statement on homosexuality, but that the Lutheran church takes a different tack. In his opinion the end result of the talks should not be dictated in advance.

There is a point at which diametrically opposed positions make it impossible to fellowship.
Well, they still are talking to the Synods I’m in communion with. But most of the large State churches in Europe have gone full gay.
I gotta side with the Rooskies on this one.
Did the Russian side insist on condemning "homosexuality" or homosexual behavior? I bet the latter and the Lutherans wouldn't evn acknowledge this universal Bible truth.
Ruskies will be the only light skinned people left on the planet in fifty years. Queers will take over and all die off. Unless they round us up into concentration camps, force us to breed, thensteal the kids.
Good thing Martin Luther doesn’t know how his name is being used. But worse yet is how God’s name is being used. To call evil good.
LINOs
Unsurprising. Why would the Russians, who are apparently trying to stay faithful to Scripture and obedient to God’s Word at least on this issue, want to fellowship with apostate false prophets? The Finns obviously think they have the right to countermand God’s Word (which they don’t) and call God a liar, and engage in false prophecy. They’re prophesying that God didn’t say what He said about the behavior, and instead God doesn’t condemn the behavior. That’s a profoundly false prophecy, and false prophets don’t have a happy eternity, to put it mildly.
I couldn't have said it better.
I wonder how the Finns reconcile their stance on homosexuality with their Christian faith?
You betcha.
De-frocked FATHER Martin Luther, the first Protestant, would be turning in his grave. He started something that couldn't stopped: protesting.
There are now 30,000+ DIFFERENT Protestant denominations. I doubt that Jesus wanted that. But, I'm not privy to God's plan, so I just trust in Him.
For too many people change just doesn't come FAST enough. The Catholic Church is 2000 years old. They NEVER did anything in a hurry.
Of course, hindsight is always 20-20, isn't it?
I was on a tour of the Holy Land and it was run by Steve Ray. He was an evangelical Baptist minister and thought that all Catholics were going to hell.
Being the good man that he is he wanted to SAVE US from that fate. So, he and his wife, Janet, started READING all about the Catholic Church so they would know how to approach us "condemned" Catholics.
After a year of reading he and his wife found themselves on the living room floor, awash in the history of the Catholic Church WEEPING, saying: "We're CATHOLICS!!"
His conversion story is written out in his book: Crossing the Tiber.
Scott Hahn's conversion is equally interesting.
SIDE-NOTE: Steve and Janet Ray NEVER, ever, ever, once said a negative thing about their Protestant brethern.
Good. No point in having a “dialogue” with those who outright reject God’s word.
Exactly. And why is this “fellowship” so needed? Would they be having “dialogue” with Shintoists? No and for obvious reasons. Truth does divide and having Biblically orthodox views on matters such as sex, marriage and the family will require the group that wishes to remain Biblically orthodox not to fellowship with groups that oppose that.
There is such a thing as compromise on something that is not clear in the word of God but this thing against God is not one of them and if some one don`t believe in God then it is still against nature.
Say what you want about ROC, but Bible makes it clear on a subject. Where the word sodomy came from? What dialogue do they want?
Please direct me to a list so I can verify this
If you "Google" it there a SEVERAL sources if you dislike Wikipedia.
That list doesn’t even have 50 different “protestant denominations” - where is a list of all 30,000 different denominations. If there really are 30,000 different “protestant denominations” there there must be a list of every single one somewhere.
