Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.
But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:
"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.
As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...
Scripture comes from God not the Catholic Church. It was Jews who God used to write it. Peter acknowledged Paul's writings to be scripture and the letters were copied and shared with all the churches. If you want to credit the Catholic Church you may want to keep in mind that God used Judas in His plans as well.
Muslims claim power in their prayers as well. Just saying.
Christ gave the Catholic Church the command. Who am I to argue with how He wants it done. Not my problem though Take it up with Him.
In other words, words have meaning insofar as they agree with your preconceived notion and when they don't then its semantics?
Sorry, but I'm not going to take responsibility for the ignorance and illiteracy of the protestant contingent.
As for your citation of the second commandment, I wonder if you're prepared to discuss the whole of that section in Exodus, whereby you left out the part about worshiping false gods and are you prepared to state that Catholics believe statues are gods?
If only that were so.
Really trying to avoid hyperbole here, but this is quite possibly the single most bigoted, ridiculous statement I've ever read in 13 years of posting on this website.
If you are unable to see that Islam and its false god are not true destroyers of man's spirit instead of people who believe in the same Triune God as you, you're really beyond help.
My hope is that others on this thread have already urged you to reconsider the spirit in which you posted this message.
It is with God.
Deuteronomy 12:3 And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place. 4 You shall not do so to the LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 You shall not behave thus toward the LORD your God,
That seems rather clear. So they may not think it's an issue but it's clear also that they don't much care what God says on the matter. It's an issue because God says it's an issue.
See post 467
God said don't do that. It's an abomination to Him.
I can appreciate your feelings on the matter. But the fact remains, that a Christianity divided does not serve us in ridding ourselves of Islam. I am in agreement that it is a threat that needs to be contended, not only in the geo-political sphere but a spiritual one as well. I fail to see how Protestantism can contribute to that in the end. No matter what doctrines we hold in common. That doesn't mean protestants make good companions in the fox hole. And why? Because they have another agenda. A protestant can say it's all about Christ, but at its basic level Protestantism is about rejection of Rome.
I see Islam for what it is. The problem is I've seen what Protestantism has done to us over the last 500 years and its simply not equipped to deal with this. Too much relativism. Every man an island, scripture interpreted to mean how it speaks to my heart, etc. Inevitably leading to such moral decay that quite frankly a protestant can't speak authoritatively on anything to a religion that is all about authority. I said in another post, The Catholic Church has been given the command here on earth, so if protestants are serious about fighting Islam and the threat it poses they really need to fall in line, not to put to fine a point on it.
I do know one thing. After all this is over, there will only be the Catholic Church. Only the Church has the divine promise of perpetuity until the end of the world.
I agree with you, however the post may be very revealing of what is coming in the days ahead. A unity between Islam and Catholicism based on a deified Mary. Babylon the Great is how the Bible describes this new Church.
The Palestinians believe that Jesus was a Palestinian Freedom Fighter...(LOL)
Wow! What utter blasphemy. Thank you for posting that. And still they say they don’t ascribe deity to her.
Christ.
The more sophisticated pagans back in the day would also argue that they knew that the Chemosh image thru which they sent their children to be burned was just a “focal representation” of the larger reality of the true Chemosh. These statues or graven images were the focal point thru which they could worship and bow down to get their deity’s attention.
Mars hill had all the images and staues of the greek gods but there was also an unadorned altar noted as the “Unknown God”...because though many pious folk did what they could to placate what Gods they held to be true....there was always that nagging doubt that they missed one somewhere. It was on that subject, “to the unknown God”, a faceless formless God, that Paul preached the greatest apologetic sermon for Christ in the whole of the Bible including, the general conditions of darkened humanity before the coming of Christ, the love that God had for men, even beyond the nation of Israel, his “winking” at men as they groped in darkness so that they would not lose hope, and Paul, finally making the connection between the worship of “ the unknown God” with that same God of Gods that sent Christ into the world, stating that all men were now commanded to come to Christ as his was the only name under heaven by which men could be saved!
By using an altar devoted to an “unknown God” which had no form of man, object, or any device of Heaven..Paul illuminated Christianity for the Greeks and for the church itself for all time. It is not as important that we see the image of Christ so much instead that God should see the image of Christ in each of us! The Bible promises us that in that day of resurrection...”We shall be like Him for We shall see HIM AS HE IS”. So much for statues, images, amulets, rosaries, and sacred relics.....!
Sorry Thomas...I was trying to post to the other ‘sainted’ one!
And I'm sorry, political action based on a shared common interest just doesn't cut it as a solution anymore. Are we nations or are we members of the Body of Christ.
I'm no apologist for Pope Francis, he can say what he wants. But what he cannot do is err and teach something that is contradictory to faith and morals. We have the Holy Spirit to thank for that. Can the same be said for the protestant who finds scriptural warrant for whatever deviancy tickles his or her fancy? And if not, whose to correct him or her? What authority?
In its haste to overthrow the legitimate authority of the Church Protestantism has allowed Islam to sneak into their house and slit their throats. So much for those cherished European protestant nations.
It is true of my Protestant friends/relatives. When I saw that man on tv praying to Mary, I knew we had been right all along. Some of y’all seem to be brain washed. Like I said before, God is the answer.
The second commandment doesn’t say *false gods*.
It says not to create an image or bow down to it.
The plain and simple fact is that Catholics worldwide, including the pope, bow down before graven images of Mary.
According to God, that is wrong. It is breaking the second commandment and therefore is sin.
It’s an objective fact that can be seen by anyone.
