Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.
But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:
"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.
As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...
“Why do Catholics always twist someone’s words?”
That is a malicious lie.
“No one has said love for someone is idolitry.”
They sure did. You and others just love to repeat the lie that veneration for Mary and others is idolatry.
“It’s when that “love” comes before Christ.”
Which, in the Catholic Church, it never does. You know that, and I suspect that God will hold you responsible for your every reiteration of that lie.
Mine has an empty tomb...
“That is not license to make up stuff and pass it off as truth.”
I don’t believe that one needs “make up” your reliance on sola scriptura.
“And I didn’t say that either.”
Road apples. You may think you are saying something “deeper” or “more intellectual” than that, but your position boils down to a prohibition on love or veneration for anyone or anything except God.
I would expect more intelligent posts on this site but evidently, some do not measure up to that. Such a pity. My parents, teachers, relatives and friends taught me better. My mom died a few months before she was 103 and she set a marvelous example for us. She influenced many, many lives. Tis a shame y’all did not have an example like her.
“Proof from scripture please. Book and chapter.”
I do not insist that God never said anything that is not in the Bible.
The Bible doesn’t say that.
God never said that.
I know it to be false, from first-hand experience.
Mockery.
What a powerful rebuttal.
I did some research, veneration is the first step of worship. How can y’all keep denying praying to Mary/saints. We all love Mary but we do not worship her like Catholics do. We worship God and God alone. We pray directly to Him because there is no need to go through anyone else especially the dead. In other words, we have a direct line to Him. It is a shame that some do not understand that.
Amen!
Yes, I am. I said I was, I meant I was and I didn't stutter. The arrogance of your comments is stunning.
Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them,
“You can read minds now?”
Following a stated proposition to its necessary conclusion is not mind reading.
If I were mind-reading around here I’d be starved for material.
Wow! Once again with the mind reading. You may want to read the rules around here.
That’s one of the TEN, no less.
“Who do you think you are telling people what they know or don’t know?”
Someone capable of discerning that from their remarks.
“Mockery.”
Humor.
“Once again with the mind reading.”
Not at all. I’ve seen you instructed in that a number of times.
It is typical of leftists—theological or other—that they try to get the opposition silenced, so keep accusing me of “mind reading.” Who knows, the moderator might believe you.
