Pope Francis has been a breath of fresh air for many Catholics seeking greater liberty and a growing concern for conservative Christians who take issue with his comments about homosexuality and other cultural issues.
But the pontiff's latest statement is sparking an uproar from believers around the world. Pope Francis sent a tweet Tuesday that absolutely violates the truth of Scripture:
"The Christian who does not feel that the Virgin Mary is his or her mother is an orphan," Pope Francis tweeted.
As of the time I wrote this column it had been retweeted about 4,000 times and many of the responses were in appropriately unkind. It's not appropriate to attack the pope for his beliefs. It's more appropriate to share the truth...
>>>Saying that Mary is the mother of God is saying a different thing than saying that Mary is the mother of Jesus.<<<
I’m telling you this is wrong. Motherhood is not and authorship of an existence. It is a necessary participation in it. No woman is solely the origin of her Children. This is why Mary is called the spouse of the Holy Spirit.
There is a necessary connection to saying that Jesus is God, and that therefore Mary is the Mother of God. There is no problem with this theologically. Nor biblically, since you cannot provide me one scriptural account where Jesus is not God.
There are plenty of scriptural accounts which support the Mary’s motherhood of God, here is Isaiah 7:14
“Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” (which means God is with us)
Or that the Name of Jesus means “God Saves,” it is not just a statement that God acts to save. It is the signified and the signifier.
Amen!
HERETIC!
Heat the oil HOTTER!!!
Strange, as I consider myself a believer.
HER 'faith' has had ZERO influence on me.
Just as John the Baptist's MOTHER's 'faith' has had none.
They were BOTH part of the PLAN; and whether they BELIEVED in it or not is inconsequential.
(I might be failing to understand what a 'true' believer is...)
Sorry; but I think I've been instructed to 'emulate' Christ, Himself.
Philippians 2:5 KJV
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus
But isn't it interesting that the church based in Rome claims she is/was SINLESS?
Why would a NON-'sinner' need to be saved?
Catholic dictionary: Brother = cousin
I've heard this claim before.
Pope Stephen VI (896897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]
Pope John XII (955964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.
Pope Benedict IX (10321044, 1045, 10471048), who "sold" the Papacy
Pope Boniface VIII (12941303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy
Pope Urban VI (13781389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]
Pope Alexander VI (14921503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]
Pope Leo X (15131521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]
Pope Clement VII (15231534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.
Can we be privy to the EXACT wording you're using?
And to WHOM are these prayers directed?
God the Father; has ALWAYS existed.
Jesus, the Son; has ALWAYS existed.
The Holy Spirit has ALWAYS existed.
As a SPIRIT, Jesus took ON human flesh via Mary;
in contrast with the way Adam was made:
Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
The body being made FIRST and THEN the Spirit entering it.
Or more accurately, God is the creator of time and is therefore omnipresent to all his creation.
Which is to say, from the beginning of time he knew you.
You cannot provide one Scriptural account where Mary is called *spouse of the Holy Spirit*, *mother of God*, or any of the other titles the Catholic church has bestowed on her.
There is a necessary connection to saying that Jesus is God, and that therefore Mary is the Mother of God. There is no problem with this theologically. Nor biblically, since you cannot provide me one scriptural account where Jesus is not God.
Correcting error about who Jesus is is best done using Scripture, not going into further error by making up wrong teaching about Mary. It is NOT a necessary connection to Jesus. It's just an excuse to deify Mary.
There are plenty of scriptural accounts which support the Marys motherhood of God, here is Isaiah 7:14

Your selection of that verse only supports my position, that Mary is the mother of JESUS and NOT the mother of God.
The verse says that the virgin will bear a son and His name will be *Immanuel, God with us*, not *his name will be *God*.
>>>You cannot provide one Scriptural account where Mary is called<<<
Oh common, get over yourself. Luke’s gospel is an ample explanation of how the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary.
Your arguments are disingenuous to interpreting the text. Its a false hermeneutic to interpret scripture that way. Not even Jesus did so, See Matthew 22:41-45 which is a great example btw.
>>>spouse of the Holy Spirit<<
Lk 1:35
The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.
When the power of the holy spirit overshadowed Mary God supplied himself to be born of the Virgin. She is the spouse of God in the sense that the power of the Holy Spirit brought abut Jesus into the world.
>>>Correcting error about who Jesus is is best done using Scripture, not going into further error by making up wrong teaching about Mary. It is NOT a necessary connection to Jesus. It’s just an excuse to deify Mary.<<<
False, there is nothing wrong with stating the obvious from scripture. Jesus is God, therefore Mary is the mother of God. This is a broken record.
You shouldn’t let your disagreement towards the Catholic Church cloud your understanding of Jesus. Your dismissal of Mary is making you claim false things about the Nature of Christ. This is bad theology and a bad practice of faith. In arguing this way you argue like the Pharisee.
I agree, but you have to laud her for faith. She was a faithful saint that I would like my daughters to be like. He faith was a model for all people, especially young ladies. Her faith was better than Eve!
She is not the mother of God the Father. Saying so is to put her before the foundation of the world. Mary is eternal, but as a human she had a start, bound by time, space, and humanity. God the father, Son, and Holy Spirit are eternal. She was the vessel that God the father used to bring forth his Son into the world.
Jews too?
Nothing personal...I do appreciate your comments. I enjoy the intellectual stimulation...and to be provoked to study God’s Word more! It is the only thing that excites me in this wicked Generation.
