Hi - I come to you humbly asking for your thoughts and prayers for our daughter. She just went abroad as she starts her Junior year from Gettysburg College and is in Melbourne, Australia. She has been there just over 2 weeks.
Things were going great until she called this morning to say she was in the ER because she hasn't felt well, has had a headache for 2 days, and feels like she has been hit by a truck.
Long story short, she is being treated for a bacterial infection and the hospital is bringing in infectious disease doctors. Her temp was 104. She is on antibiotics and feeling better...but we are so worried.
We live in Baltimore and I feel helpless. She is a great student and has made friends, two of which have stayed with her almost the whole time. The logistics are being handled thru an organization called Arcadia, and they have been tremendous, both in Australia and the US office.
We have a wonderful support system (family and friends) praying for her and have felt their prayers as my husband and I feel so helpless....but I would truly covet and be evergrateful if you feel led to pray for us and our daughter, Christina.
I apologize ahead of time if I can't respond personally....please know I will try. God bless you.

Meningitis!
This needs to be taken seriously.
Probably contracted it from the ventilation system of the plane on the way down. It attacks those with a weakened immune response.

oy....I know...that was our first thought. We'll have to wait and see. No word from Australia yet. Gotta let God be in charge. The good news is that her fever is no longer 104 (last we knew) and that infectious disease doctors were going to look at her "in the morning". It's 10:00am there now....so we are hoping to hear something.
Her flight was from Dulles to LAX on Virgin, then LAX to Melbourne on Qantas.

*sigh* It's after 10:00am there...but it's a Saturday. I don't know if that makes a difference. Almost 20 years ago, she was born on a Friday, but needed to be transferred the next day to a different level hospital. All we heard was, 'well...it's the weekend'. *sigh*
It's a waiting thing now.

That happened with me having a hip replacement done during the week, and after four days in the hospital, moving to a nursing home for rehab.
I got put in a room with someone who kept the TV on all night. All I heard was “Well, it’s the weekend and we can’t do anything about moving you.”
It was a brutal Friday and Saturday night.
