The rank and file LDS are also much nicer and less crazy than Scientologists who seem to be pure evil and robotic.//
No LDS has more than their fair share of evil and robotic, they just try not to let outsiders see it - the goal of APPEARING nice (and they do use the term appear) is to get you interested in joining - nothing else.
Mormonism is a lot like the first stepford wives movie.

That could be. Their theology is absurd but it has worked remarkably well. The LDS I worked with in California (Sacramento) were good people and hard working and they were not backstabbers unlike a number of the ‘Gentile’ employees. Conversations about their faith were uniformly interesting and non-threatening. I gave one fellow a copy of ‘The Burt Over District’ just to give him some context on the area where Mormonism emerged. He later said it was fascinating but was faith shaking because of the way it approached history as multicausal not events repeated as a story. I told him most historical events were events retold as stories and that distorted most of the way we saw the past. That was the sort of exchanges I had. The Scientology types who I had two encounters with struck me as bright but crazy. Devotees of some psychological control system masquerading as a religion. They were very disturbing.
