When I became Catholic in 1998, as a college sophomore, I didn't know any other gay Christians. I'd been raised in a kind of pointillist Reform Judaism...
This sheltered upbringing may help explain my sunny undergraduate confidence that even though I knew of literally nobody else who had ever tried to be both unashamedly gay and obediently Catholic, I was totally going to do it. No problem, guys, I got this.

[M]any Christian churches are beginning to integrate gay marriage into their theology... With so many more options for gay Christians, why [not] just de-pope myself?
It's that I fell in love with the Catholic Church....I didn't switch from atheistic post-Judaism to "belief in God," but to Catholicism: the Incarnation and the Crucifixion...her insistence that seemingly irreconcilable needs could both be met in God's overwhelming love: justice and mercy, reason and mystery, a savior who is fully God and also fully human. I didn't expect to understand every element of the faith. It is a lot bigger than I am.

At the time of my baptism...I figured, everybody has to sacrifice something. God doesn't promise that He'll only ask you for the sacrifices you agree with and understand.

Right now, the Biblical witness seems pretty clear. Both opposite-sex and same-sex love are used, in the Bible, as images of God's love. The opposite-sex love is found in marriagesexually exclusive marriage, an image which recurs not only in the Song of Songs but in the prophets and in the New Testamentand the same-sex love is friendship. Both of these forms of love are considered real and beautiful; neither is better than the other. But they're not interchangeable.
Moreover, Genesis names sexual difference as the only difference which was present in Eden...

Very well stated.

God bless you too, SoFloFreeper.

Temptation is not a sin. You know that. Jesus was tempted in every way we are, but without sin.
In a nutshell, here is what “Eve” has written:
(i) I’m a lesbian. I know that is contrary to God’s word.
(ii) I am more inclined to worship the gratification of my genitals than worshipping the Triune God.
(iii) Let me try to convince you, using modernistic “love” language that I am secure in my understanding of Christ’s salvation by not being “active” in my carnal desires...for now.
(iv) I reserve the right to participate in said carnal desires in the future, once all my friends and acquaintences have been deceived by my rationalizations into thinking I’m an OK-kinda-gal.
God will not be mocked...especially by a sodomite who fancies herself some type of ecclesiastical lawyer.

Lovely explanation!! I shall steal it!
True, but how is this relevant? Who said that He does?
“...she is arguably helping to spread pro-gay propaganda.”
No, the people that spread pro-gay propaganda would rather cut their arms off than put forth any type of celibacy option for homosexuals. I mean come on, you will never see a bunch of signs with ‘I’m gay but celibate because of my faith’ at a pro- ‘gay marriage’ rally.

On the assumption you can understand this, I must ask you to go and learn the meaning of these words"
"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."
But the words she used are “UNASHAMEDLY gay.”
That is contradictory to being a follower of Yeshua.
After every one of Yeshua’s healings he said “go and sin no more,” not “go and try not to sin.”

Sandals...dust..shaken.
you are an apostate
Ravenwolf, it might be a good idea to re-read what GOP said, in the light of an honest review of the human heart.
I was not jumping all over him or no one else, I believe the article on the thread was referring to the lesbian as being a member of the Catholic Church and that is what I was talking about.
I rewrote GOP and explained that I was talking about the Membership of the Church, I believe the Church leaders should go back and read the acts of the apostles and consider what serious business it was to become a member of the Church.
If they had any love for the church at all maybe some of them would resign.
And if you read my comment again you can see that I do not consider myself fit to be a member of the Church as set up in acts.
The “unbidden tug,” the unwilled attraction, the abrupt appetite, is partly a gift of God (it helps us get interested in marriage) and too often something nagging and inordinate, which disturbs our serenity and tempts us to sin.>>>>>>
I have lived with that for most of my 78 years so I am not exactly a student.
So don’t be jumping all over GOP for just noting that he feels the attraction. It is not the same as saying he plays a continuous porno video loop in his brain and willfully cooperates in getting off on lustful fantasy.>>>>>>>
That never even entered my mind, must be assumption.
your transmission was a waste of bandwidth. It contains no truth.
Animalistic urges are not a sin. ACTING on those urges is. I’m a happily married, committed married woman. But my body still has responses to other men. I chose not to act on those impulses. In heart, body, and soul - I am committed to my husband.
She’s chosen to remain celibate and to embrace friendship and the spiritual love of her fellow human beings in place of sex.
She acknowledges that marriage is sacred. The embrace of ‘the other’ and special. For opposites. Not for gays.
I’m struggling to see anything wrong with what she is saying here.
Y’all white folks be silly.
That's why I asked people to read the whole article.
