Islamic prayers to be held at the Vatican

For the first time in history, Islamic prayers and readings from the Quran will be heard at the Vatican on Sunday, in a move by Pope Francis to usher in peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Francis issued the invitation to Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during his visit last week to Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority.

Abbas, Peres, and Francis will be joined by Jewish, Christian and Islamic religious leaders, a statement released by Peres’s spokesperson said, according to the Times of Israel.

Holy See officials on Friday said the evening prayers would be a “pause in politics” and had no political aim other than to rekindle the desire for Israeli-Palestinian peace at the political and popular level, according to the Associated Press.

Low expectations

The Vatican will broadcast a live feed of the event to viewers across the world.

However, expectations for the event should be kept low, according to Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the custodian of Catholic Church property in the Holy Land.

On Friday, the Pope met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and discussed ways of promoting peace and stability in Asia the Vatican said in a statement.

I have three different translations of the Quran and I have read one through and look at the others occasionally when I am on a Quran jag, or stumble across them.

I even have a prayer rug that someone brought me from Saudi Arabia.

Some of us are the types that need to read and learn what the other fellow is reading and learning, it is how we learn the truth about Islam for instance, rather than accepting what everyone has been telling us since 9/11 (religion of peace etc.)

The Quran shows us what a backwards and monstrous, and brutal and brutish little cult it is, it reads like a guy who went from merchant to a warrior chieftain wrote a simple little religion cult book (just like happened), it is nothing like the Bible.

What do you mean, nope? Ever hear of the term ex cathedra? Look it up. From http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05677a.htm:

Literally "from the chair", a theological term which signifies authoritative teaching and is more particularly applied to the definitions given by the Roman pontiff. Originally the name of the seat occupied by a professor or a bishop, cathedra was used later on to denote the magisterium, or teaching authority. The phrase ex cathedra occurs in the writings of the medieval theologians, and more frequently in the discussions which arose after the Reformation in regard to the papal prerogatives. But its present meaning was formally determined by the Vatican Council, Sess. So, yes, as Faith Presses On stated, the Pope CAN change or even add doctrine mandated to be followed by faithful Catholics. JUST as they did with the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary. No one seems to be able to agree on a list of ALL of the ex cathedra pronouncements that have been made over the centuries, though.

I’m Ok if you are silent. Catholics blasphemously call the pope the vicar of Christ or even Christ on earth. The pope is said to be inerrant in matters of doctrine. You guys call him “holiness”. There is no holiness in this abominable act.
The Catholic church has stepped over the line in blasphemy before, and this is another example. This is what happens in an organization that follows traditions of men rather than the Word.

That's because he is the Vicar of Christ. Not my problem you're in rebellion from the True Church. He is infallible in the teaching of Faith and morals. I don't see an Ex Cathedra statement being promulgated here which means you don't know what you're talking about.

Perhaps protestants should be in communion with Christ in the Eucharist instead of being in "communion" with themslves and a book like a bunch of muslims. What's the protest equivalent of a madrasa?

Cute. but no cigar. Your Vicar is openly apostate as is much of the recent doctrine of your Church. I’m 100% in communion with Christ, and BTW believe in the Real Presence of Christ in communion. However I don;t worship wafers, I worship the Living God.

LOL. There are no protestants in Heaven. Any protestant in heaven is now Catholic. The Blessed Trinity isn't divided in such a manner. Never forget that every element of protestant belief and worship contains an element of protestation. As such there is no protest in Heaven.

I am a Catholic and have many issues and problems with the Catholic church of the past and today, so much so that I probably wouldn't be considered Catholic anymore by many.
That being said, this is completely wrong and as wrong as something can possibly be.
I see the church moving further and further away from the Lord.

Just my personal opinion and enough said on my part.
