Can Roman Catholics be saved? Yes they can but not if they adhere to Roman Catholic theology. Like anyone else, salvation is found only through faith in Christ alone. ...

Thank you for your answer and now I will quit since I refuse to “cast pearls before swine” because my goal is not divisiveness unlike your spirit.

That sounds downright Lutheran or Calvinistic.

Are you like some kinda' reverse-Jesuit, double-agent sleeper-mole bent on secretly distorting the teachings of the OTC (One True Church!), but without needing to use one of those rub-on tanning solutions and hair dye to better blend in with the crowd?

If so...I'll send you next week's new (double-secret) code keys by freepmail.

[psst... keep up the good work!]

"....articles dealing with whether or not Catholics can be saved are unnecessary, divisive..."

None of my posts said anything about defending the article itself. I was merely defending the truth that (a)"the church" (God's body of believers) is not confined to the Roman Catholic church but consists of all believers; and (b) there are no works necessary for admittance to heaven (thank goodness because if there were then all of us would fall short), belief is the only requirement.

I will not argue with, nor find fault with Roman Catholics (like you ??) who do not disagree with my two points. I have many Catholic friends who I consider to be saved Christians. But I will always be ready to defend my faith against those who tell me that Roman Catholicism is the only true faith. As I said before, it is not the membership in a particular denomination that saves you.

However I must admit, at least from a Catholic perspective, there is a point and a reason for posting the pro-Catholic ones. (And so, I am forced to say in fairness the pro-Protestant ones). And that is for evangelization of the lurker.

I would agree with you when this began years ago and there was a discussion of real theology.

Now the threads reek with hatred and telling people they are going to hell or calling people heretics because they do not believe they same way "I" do. There is no goal of real teaching here nor is there a spirit of Christ as the goal. If there was then Catholics would only use the Bible in their teaching poor Protestants. Seriously we all know the only thing we all agree on is the "Bible" and that the discussion is over once scripture is left and yet here we are.

The goal today is getting the opposite side to bow down before them not the Lord. The spirit of the goal is arrogance and hatred.

All this evil does is turn people away from God and his word.

Can you honestly say any of this argument today has been written in love of God because I do not see it.

detch:

I have lived among those same people and yes, they argue that Blacks have no souls [many of them did then and do now], and after that, while they acknowledge we Catholics have souls, it most certainly, according to all the Bubba Bob Theologians, is going straight to hell

"Salvation is found only by believing the gospel that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the dead."

Which is the belief o Catholics, which we solemnly profess every Sunday, and many of us, every day and with all our hearts..

“I have many Catholic friends who I consider to be saved Christians. But I will always be ready to defend my faith against those who tell me that Roman Catholicism is the only true faith.”

And, those, my friend, are the problems:

1. You cannot know who is “saved” and who is not. And to believe that you can is the height of hubris.

2. Your need to judge Catholics, or any other Christian, as “saved” or “not saved” is as odious to them as is your being told that you do not practise the ‘one, true faith.’

We Catholics pray for the salvation of all: Christians, Jews, moslems, atheists, pagans, agnostics.

As Christians, we have the privilege of following Jesus, who is, after all, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Thus, I prefer to spend my time contemplating the shedding of His Most Precious Blood for me than to worry about whether you or anybody else considers me to be “saved.”

Let me invite you to do the same.

No disrespect for the Sacrament meant. I just have low tolerance for people who spout off without finding out the facts first. That is true for any discussion. Should have used the sarcasm tag.

Can you honestly say any of this argument today has been written in love of God because I do not see it.

All, no. (Certainly *I* have been prideful at times I know that). But some yes, on both sides.

I return to my original point, with some elaboration. If I believe I have something that is beneficial for others I must share it out of love or love means nothing. And also, what I've been given has no value. (Cf the parable of the talents)

Now of course I fail, and when I see that happening in me I walk away before I do too much (more) damage to my witness. We don't have to be on these threads all the time. It's best if we're not, actually, for all parties concerned.

Your goal should be the salvation of your soul. I’ll light a candle for you at Mass. Have a great day and realize that God wants his lost sheep to come home.

The question is - Can those who lie about Catholics be saved?

I just heard Steve Ray on Catholic Answers radio the other day. He’s quite a character! I’ll bet a trip to the Holy Land with him would be quite an adventure.

We always felt safe and well taken care of.

Of course, we saw Israeli soldiers everywhere.

These threads can be very annoying sometimes. It's tempting to respond. But, I have learned that when it comes to faith and faiths, it's best to leave things alone.

It's God's job to sort things out. He's even better than The Shadow (who knows what lurks in the minds of men).

**Protestant belief is also expressed in the same Nicene Creed and Apostles Creed that you quoted. **

I doubt that since the wording on them changed two years ago with the new translation.

Do you have an older version?

In other words, Roman Catholicism teaches works righteousness...

The horror, the horror! Can you just imagine a religion that teaches its adherents that they must be righteous people?
