Pat Robertson: Creationists 'Deaf, Dumb, and Blind'

by Brian Thomas, M.S. *

Television minister Pat Robertson said on the May 13 episode of CBN's 700 Club, "The truth is, you have to be deaf, dumb, and blind to think that this earth that we live in only has 6,000 years of existence."1 The eight staff doctorates at the Institute for Creation Research, and the many other biblical creation scientists who agree with their position, might like to know what they supposedly haven't heard, don't understand, and haven't seen.2

Robertson was responding to a letter that asked, "I've heard arguments from both sides of whether our Earth is 6,000 years old…Please explain further."1

But Pat's explanation sounded far more emotional than factual.

He said, "I think to deny the clear [geologic] record that's there before us makes us look silly." Of course the "us" refers to Christians in general, who, in Robertson's view, should accept millions of years as a scientific fact that geology has left in a "clear record."

Where in Earth's many rocks can we find this "record"? We may only have seen it in books that men wrote, not in rocks that carry no literal records. Do Earth layers really present as clear a "record" of millions of years as Robertson so assertively persuaded?

Robertson referred to an age of dinosaurs including a Jurassic Period, "radiocarbon dating," and oil as three icons representing millions of years. Good science refutes each.

I actually believe that evolution and creation are one in the same with evolution being how things were created with each theory supporting the other.

I fully believe time as we know and measure it today and biblical time are two different things.

For instance I think it’s ludicrous to believe that everything including the earth was created in six actual days. God may count one day as a million years.

Case in point to prove this theory Noah for instance is said in the bible to live to the ripe old age of 950. Can anyone honestly believe its possible for anyone to actually live 950 years? I think it’s pretty obvious that they were counting years differently.. Most believeably was that each month or lunar cycle was counted as a year which would have put Noahs age at 79.

There are acrheological facts left behind as well as undeniable holes in the biblical text.

Lets take the dinosaurs for example. The bible doesn’t mention them at all yet we’ve dug up there bones. Could not the dinsaurs purpose during creation be to spread seed and fertilize the earth? They left big ole piles of dung to do just that!

Man and woman was supposedly created in a garden. Then how did they spread to every continent without boats ? Could they not have started multiplying before the continental drift then when things started drifting apart thats how they ended up on each continent?

I’m a firm believer in the bible but I’m also reasonable and the bible doesn’t tell us all we want to know just what we need to know.

You don’t have to believe the earth is 6000 years old in order to be a Creationist.

BTW, I know Pat very personally as my mother was his personal assistant for 15 years.

Pats problem is that he is not politically correct but has to put up a front that he is to a certain extent and his old age causes things to slip out from time to time.

All these debates dance around the real question: is there more to reality than just matter?

Adding up the generations from Adam, assuming there are none skipped, gives the 6000 year figure.

.

Pat "Korean War Combat Veteran" Robertson ... as he proudly proclaimed while seeking that 1988 GOP Presidential Nomination.

I filed a Federal Lawsuit in 1988 against Pat Robertson's "corporation" (700 Club) for hiding it's financial activities and the truth about it's IRS 501-C3 tax-exempt status ...

considering Pat Robertson's slide into comical irrelevance (except for the MSM) ...

it was a good decision.

Mostly the same here, if there was any scripture giving the age of the earth I would probably believe it but believing the earth is 6000 years old is not believing the Bible it is just believing some ones interpretation of it.

That is right, I believe God made the heavens and earth but we get our different opinions of its age from how we interpret the scriptures and I can not get six literal days from the scripture.

This is a non issue—nowhere in scripture does it say how old we’re supposed to think the earth is.

It'll be an issue after the primaries when everyone with an (R) after their name will field questions from the media on how old they think the earth is.

The "crazy creationist" strategy is designed to turn off educated, suburban voters from Republican candidates. Why do you think we've been hearing so much about creationism lately? Democrats were hoping for an easy Senate win in Georgia over the issue but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Regardless of how Robertson stated, he is right about young Earth theory.

Actually, if Adam and Eve would of obeyed God's single commandment to them, they would not of died. They were warned that they would die if they did not obey it. Sin made them genetically imperfect.

Every other wonderment of yours is also answered in the bible.

To deny that this Earth is old is to deny what God says about it. The choice is fake science or God's word.

950 was likely his age in years as we know years today or close. Genesis chapter 6 explains mans years were shortened to no more than 120 years. This was about the time of Noah or shortly after. Diseases obviously had no manifested nor genetic issue which shorten life.

I’m drawing from the work of John Lennox, “Seven Days That Divide the World.”

Most commonly, the 6000 year controversy is used by anti Christian zealots to attack the faithful. It’s rarely if ever discussed from a sincere perspective.

I recommend John Lennox to anyone who has an opinion on this topic and is at risk of abandoning meaningful thought in the name of mainstream trends and conformity in general.

There are people out there—for example John Lennox—who can really teach these Democrats (and the educated suburban voters) how to fire up their synapses once in a while.

Psalm 90:4 - to God time has no meaning.

Yes, and a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day.

Plus, these are the generations, six literal days to me do not add up to be generations no matter what word they want to come up with to convince me that it was six literal days.

Aye, there's the rub.
