This is a non issue—nowhere in scripture does it say how old we’re supposed to think the earth is.

It'll be an issue after the primaries when everyone with an (R) after their name will field questions from the media on how old they think the earth is.

The "crazy creationist" strategy is designed to turn off educated, suburban voters from Republican candidates. Why do you think we've been hearing so much about creationism lately? Democrats were hoping for an easy Senate win in Georgia over the issue but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

There are people out there—for example John Lennox—who can really teach these Democrats (and the educated suburban voters) how to fire up their synapses once in a while.
