Honoring Mary, Mother of Mercy

Why do we call Mary the Mother of Mercy?

With both the Marian month of May and Mother’s Day on the horizon, it’s an appropriate time to reflect on this title.

St. Faustina Kowalska tells us she heard Mary refer to herself by this name: "I am not only the Queen of Heaven, but also the Mother of Mercy and your mother" (Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul, 330).

And Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI spoke of Mary using this title during his Angelus message shortly after celebrating Mass at Amman International Stadium during his Holy Land trip in May 2009.

"During the Mass, I spoke about the prophetic charism of women as bearers of love, teachers of mercy and artisans of peace," Benedict said. "The supreme model of womanly virtue is the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy and Queen of Peace."

A Model for Mothers

The Mother of Mercy is the ultimate motherly model to follow, according to Catholic mothers.

Most of the rest of us certainly aren't; not even sure many other Saints are.

God's Word says otherwise, whether one knows it or not. He is always present everywhere. All in heaven are in the 'Direct Presence of God'.

omnipresence

Good point, but that could be omniscience.

could you try a different shade of red...or maybe just not use red but another color? I have retina burn.

I may need a dispensation.

Did it ever occur to you that the Blessed Mother asked that the Wedding at Cana be the last mention of her in the Bible? I have read such a statement and believe it since she wants us always to look to her son, Jesus Christ.

uh...no.

if, as you say, Mary wants us to look at Christ, then why the undue emphasis on Mary based on a false narrative from something someone said she heard around the 4th century?

the whole Mary thing is un-Biblical and is a false doctrine not found in Christianity. Maybe Catholicism, but not Christianity.

the whole Mariology thing is a false narrative outside of what's in the Bible. and even in the limited info we have in the Bible some have taken that and have read into it meanings and implications that aren't there.

such as the one you posited regarding what Mary may or may not have said to Christ.

Mary is the mother of ALL Christian believers, be they Catholic, Orthodox, as well as Protestant, as Jesus gave her to John from the Cross.

God could no be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.

So you're saying omnipresent is not one of the attributes of God? You probably don't think He's omniscient and omnipotent either.

“They have no Biblical basis for calling her the Queen of Heaven. She is never referred to as that”.

Then who would that happen to be? Why the protestant war with the mother of Christ? Orthodox Christians, those other folks have been around for 2,000 years call her the “Lady of the Angels” and say she is “superior to all created beings”.
But we all know those protestant faiths that have been around for a couple of hundred years know a lot more about the Mother of God than Catholics and Orthodox Christians.

Protestants read the Bible, God's Word has been around longer.

Catholics and Orthodox read the bible too. And have been doing so for a lot longer at that, merely by having been around a while longer.

It’s Mother’s Day. You did have a mother didn’t you?

Did you honor her some way today?

That's good to hear, so where in the Bible did the 'Mary Queen of Heaven' teaching originate? And of not in there why did her inspired contemporaries leave out a reference to such an important teaching? If praying to Mary gets such results, why isn't it in God's Word?
