Me upstream: Today its (Evangelical) usage is so mushy that it really has little practical meaning.

Elsewhere on the web someone described modern Evangelicalism as everything from Benny Hinn to R.C. Sproul. Clearly those two are not in the same category. With such a broad use of the word it is best just not to use it. I don't because these days is lack precision

He's a horse of a different color ... he would actually hold a Catholic view that there other things (namely, prophecies and knowledge) on par with the authority of the scriptures ...

... not to mention the false gospel of "unbelievers can't believe without displays of God's power."

That was just one of the characteristics of an evangelical ... there is the 'conversion experience' tenant also.
