No, besides deviations from the NT church , they were not all Roman Catholic, nor was the Peter of Scripture that of Rome . Even your Catholic brethren affirm such a distinction, among other significant differences. They were not even Catholic as the thirteenth or nineteenth century world would have understood the term. Nor is apostolic succession established in Scripture.
Which has overall been shown on this thread or others, but if you want to debate this let me know.
Its kefa in the Hebrew original, which is well translated to the Greek petros, both of which mean pebble.
.
Shall I list for you David’s sins?
Yet from whose line/house is Jesus a descendent?
That they may be one.....Jesus prayed in John 17
One Lord, one faith, one baptism.....Paul in Ephesians 4
When did the Church become no longer one? When did Christians no longer share the same faith?
When the authority of the pope and the Church was rejected.
The Church needs a leader who is appointed by the head who is Jesus Christ.
One may believe they have no need of anyone but themselves and their Bible, but that is not the way that Jesus and His first followers believed.
*****No; HE did not; and that is the fact.*****
Again, I cannot force one to accept the truth and that is a fact.
Obviously we disagree and I’m sure you understand my skepticism when reading things written by non Catholics.
I am certainly aware of the arguments for and against the Church and have been led by the Holy Spirit to accept the Church.
Could you instead list me Luther's?
Then why the big deal about the UNSUPPORTED claim that MARY was sinless?
Rome really has you convinced.
HA ha!
You won't even accept things written BY Catholics!!
Yet the LORD gave Peter a special calling, as it is written: And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
We need to have a care that we are sheep and not goats.
Thank you for sharing your insights, dear brother in Christ!
The Holy Spirit really has me convinced.
It amazes me that protestants can claim inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit yet Catholics must be brainwashed or hoodwinked by the Church to accept her teachings.
I am a grateful Catholic, for the Holy Spirit has led me to a faith so rich and beautiful that I am overcome with joy to be a part of it.
Yet another non sequitor. There is ample support for the grace that God blessed bestowed on Mary, graces and that He has promised to all of us.
Praise be to God for His kindness and mercy!!!!
Luther’s? Again, what is your point?
I accept all that the Catholic Church holds as true.
I think it’s time to reread what I wrote since I did not disagree with any of the quotes you posted.
The body of Christ is one but it’s not allegiance to the pope that makes them one.
It’s being born again, in Christ.
THAT is the body of Christ, not a religious organization.
Is there room for Jesus anywhere?
You’re grateful for the church and grateful for the faith.
Where’s being grateful for Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit?
for your analysis to work; Jesus would have NOT been QUOTED as calling Peter 'Simon' after His resurrection.
And Peter, one speaking for the rest of them, one for all, said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God (Mt 16:15-16)...And I tell you: you are Peter; because I am the rock, you are Rocky, Peter-I mean, rock doesn't come from Rocky, but Rocky from rock, just as Christ doesn't come from Christian, but Christian from Christ; and upon this rock I will build my Church (Mt 16:17-18); not upon Peter, or Rocky, which is what you are, but upon the rock which you have confessed. I will build my Church though; I will build you, because in this answer of yours you represent the Church. John Rotelle, O.S.A.
