This Easter a growing number of Catholic converts are joining the flock

FARMINGTON, Mo. • It is a special Easter for Wilma Whitworth, who is undergoing a spiritual rebirth, just a week before her 78th birthday.

Whitworth is celebrating her first day as a full-fledged Catholic this holiday. And she’s doing so in a largely Protestant town that is undergoing a kind of Catholic revival.

St. Joseph Catholic Church, or St. Joe’s as the locals call it, has had 24 children and adults, ages 7 and above, convert to the faith in the past year.

There is no one answer for the rise in Catholic conversion in this town of 17,000 an hour south of St. Louis. Some point to the friendly, welcoming environment at St. Joe’s.

Others at least partly credit the excitement around Pope Francis, or a new emphasis on evangelism that may be behind a broader uptick in adult and youth baptisms across the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Thank you for being the “turd in the punchbowl” on this discussion thread.

Have a blessed easter anyway, my brother in Christ.

A feel-good, Catholic propaganda piece, on Easter - who'd have guessed?
But at least they included some reality...Happy Easter.

Thank you Pope Francis. He is so inspiring that the Catholic Religion is getting a huge revival. God does know what he is doing. He put this Pope in charge at the right time of history.

We brought 7 catechumens and 4 candidates into the Church at our Easter Vigil last night. Before heading out to read at Noon Mass, I would like to share the second reading, from the Letter of St. Paul to the Colossians:

If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with Him in glory. (Col 3:1-3 NAB)

Happy Easter!

Truly a revival, in the Protestant sense lol. Many of these "converts" are still Protestant, as is their Mass, IMO. Meanwhile, cradle Catholics born in the last 40 years are majority advocates of gay marriage and birth control and practice the latter..

The Church does need a revival, and becoming more Protestant and mainstream is not the answer, and hasn't been since Satan first got his paws into the matter in the 60s.

Liberalism and protestantism in the Catholic Church are one in the same. Why has your protestant president tried to destroy the Catholic Church with his liberal policies, most notably murdering the unborn and his trying his best to destroy the institution of marriage? Why? Inquiring minds want to know.

Those same inquiring minds would be interested to know what the 18 Catholic Democrat Senators have done to oppose Obama’s death cult.

I was just happy to see a standing-room crowd at Mass this morning. Almost as many today as there were on Palm Sunday, which was nice to see. Granted, some in the congregation were not from my parish, which I could tell from their reactions to a couple things. (e.g., Our priest starts Mass by asking everyone to turn and greet the person on our left and right. And half of the congregation sits on folding chairs in the gym with the wall/doors open, so there are no kneelers and they hesitate at the first kneeling part.)

There hypocrites and CINOs. They need to join the protestant Episcopal Church where they will feel right at home.

So back to my main question. Why stay in a faith that has a president as a member of that faith that hates Christianity and everything about it? Your president is trying his best to destroy Christianity in this country. He’s not a catholic, he is a professed protestant. I personally believe he’s nothing, maybe a muslim, but he claims to be protestant. All the liberal nonsense that has infected the Catholic Church is the result of allowing any vestige of protestantism in it. No Catholic was taught it was OK to murder babies and were taught it was OK for Tom and Dick to get “married”. This is garbage they witnessed from their protestant brothers over the last 50 years. This “no one can tell me what to believe” nonsense.
