CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SECOND EDITION
PART ONE THE PROFESSION OF FAITH SECTION TWO THE PROFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH
CHAPTER THREE I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
ARTICLE 9 "I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH"
Paragraph 6. Mary - Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church
963 Since the Virgin Mary's role in the mystery of Christ and the Spirit has been treated, it is fitting now to consider her place in the mystery of the Church. "The Virgin Mary . . . is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the redeemer. . . . She is 'clearly the mother of the members of Christ' . . . since she has by her charity joined in bringing about the birth of believers in the Church, who are members of its head."502 "Mary, Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church."503
Jesus is the Lord. Jesus is God. Are you denying that?
Jesus is the Lord. Jesus is God. Are you denying that?
“Horrible formatting please try again.”
No. Nothing has changed. Jesus is the Lord. Jesus is God.
No, it has long been know that the distinction was meaningless about “Rock” because Matthew was forced to write in a certain way because Peter was male of course.
Came to know Him in the fifth grade and have been learning and walking with Him sense then.
Oh, here we go - for the 1,000th time:
“Really?”
yes, really.
“COUNCIL OF TOULOUSE - 1229 A.D Canon 14.”
Not an ecumenical council. Thus, it was not an action of the Catholic Church but a temporary action of a local church in reaction to the spread of the non-Christian heresy called Albigensianism. Thus, you are wrong. Also, it’s obvious you’re doing exactly what I said would be done: you’re cutting and pasting from anti-Catholic websites or simply re-posting what was cut and pasted from an anti-Catholic website: https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADRA_enUS418US418&q=Source%3A+Heresy+and+Authority+in+Medieval+Europe%2C+Edited+with+an+introduction+by+Edward+Peters%2C+Scolar+Press%2C+London%2C+copyright+1980+by+Edward+Peters%2C+ISBN+0-85967-621-8%2C+pp.+194-195%2C+citing+S.+R.+Maitland%2C+Facts+and+Documents+%5Billustrative+of+the+history%2C+doctrine+and+rites%2C+of+the+ancient+Albigenses+%26+Waldenses%5D%2C+London%2C+Rivington%2C+1832%2C+pp.+192-194.
“The Council of Tarragona of 1234, in its second canon:”
Again, not an ecumenical council so therefore not an action of the Catholic Church.
“It looks like you need to brush up on your Catholic history sometime.”
No, I know it far better than you ever will - as I just demonstrated. You lose again.
“So, Catholicism teaches that God has a a mother.”
Because Jesus is God.
“Therefore, Mary is deity and God is a finite being.”
Nope. No more than being the mother of a man makes a woman a man like her son.
The verse in no way negates anything I said. As St. Paul says in Philippians 2:13, “God is the one, who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work.”
The blood is for atonement and was to be poured out, as Jesus was.
Don't eat blood. The life is in the blood.
Genesis 9:4 But you shall not eat flesh with its life , that is, its blood.
Leviticus 3:17 It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, in all your dwelling places, that you eat neither fat nor blood.
Leviticus 7:26-27 Moreover, you shall eat no blood whatever, whether of fowl or of animal, in any of your dwelling places. Whoever eats any blood, that person shall be cut off from his people.
Leviticus 17:10-14 If any one of the house of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn among them eats any blood, I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, No person among you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger who sojourns among you eat blood.
Any one also of the people of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn among them, who takes in hunting any beast or bird that may be eaten shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth. For the life of every creature is its blood: its blood is its life. Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, You shall not eat the blood of any creature, for the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.
Leviticus 19:26 You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes.
Deuteronomy 12:16 Only you shall not eat the blood ; you shall pour it out on the earth like water.
Deuteronomy 12:23 Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for the blood is the life , and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.
Deuteronomy 15:23 Only you shall not eat its blood; you shall pour it out on the ground like water.
Acts 15:12-29 And all the assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. After they finished speaking, James replied, Brothers, listen to me. Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name. And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written,
After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things known from of old.
Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.
Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers, with the following letter:
The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings. Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions, it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth. For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.
Simply an excuse.....
John 2:1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
John 2:3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, They have no wine.
Acts 1:14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
Scripture is clear in calling Mary *the mother of Jesus*.
Or did the Holy Spirit blow it?
So tell me. If the term *mother of God* would ensure that people would understand who Jesus was, then why didn't the Holy Spirit use it?
As opposed to the leadership of the RCC who reside in luxury and opulence wearing gilded robes.
Nope. Simply the truth. D. A. Carsons commentary on Matthew makes it plain Peter is the Rock and he is far from the only Protestant who says so. http://socrates58.blogspot.com/2009/07/protestant-exegesis-profoundly-affected.html
“In Scripture, the Holy Spirit calls her *mother of Jesus*.”
In scripture, the Holy Spirit calls Mary the mother of the Lord through Mary (Luke 1:43). You’re still wrong. You can’t change scripture although you’ll keep trying I suppose.
Scripture tends to infuriate Catholics it seems. Simply relying solely on what the Holy Spirit inspired in scripture is anathema to them. Interesting that.
I failed? You cant show that the apostles taught what the RCC teaches and claim I failed? I showed clearly that if the apostles didnt teach something its to be considered another gospel and accursed. Obviously you failed to show any other source of what the apostles taught. That still leaves us with scripture as the sole source. AKA Sola Scriptura.
Are you telling me you dont believe that scripture is entirely inspired by the Holy Spirit?
CCC 424 Moved by the grace of the Holy Spirit and drawn by the Father, we believe in Jesus and confess: 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' On the rock of this faith confessed by St. Peter, Christ built his Church. "To preach. . . the unsearchable riches of Christ"
I’m not changing Scripture.
Mary is the mother of Jesus.
Calling her *mother of God* which is found nowhere in Scripture, is changing it.
When I take issue with traditions which go beyond the scriptural evidence I in no way am trying to sully Blessed Mary.
Thomas Jefferson wrote his own bible. What he did was write down the story and teachings while leaving out the miraculous and what he considered "contrary to reason." From this, he opined that he had created "the most sublime and benevolent code of morals..." and he was correct. However, something very significant was lost. Man can live by the dictates of God but he can never understand salvation without Christ crucified and risen.
What is missing is supernatural... and essential. Just so, Protestants do this with Mary. Your picture of Mary is correct but incomplete. There is so much more to her than you allow yourself to know. Even an exalted schismatic such as Martin Luther himself recognized the miraculous Mary and had a very strong Marian devotion. There is more to be seen than just an obedient nursemaid.
