CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SECOND EDITION

PART ONE THE PROFESSION OF FAITH SECTION TWO THE PROFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

CHAPTER THREE I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

ARTICLE 9 "I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH"

Paragraph 6. Mary - Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church

963 Since the Virgin Mary's role in the mystery of Christ and the Spirit has been treated, it is fitting now to consider her place in the mystery of the Church. "The Virgin Mary . . . is acknowledged and honored as being truly the Mother of God and of the redeemer. . . . She is 'clearly the mother of the members of Christ' . . . since she has by her charity joined in bringing about the birth of believers in the Church, who are members of its head."502 "Mary, Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church."503

“The Bible did not become available to the middle class until the 1500s. Thus, it is not unexpected that the church believes in certain non-biblical concepts because it preceded the Bible.”

and this was due in part to efforts of the Catholic Church to keep it out of the hands of the people.

Ah name calling. Didn’t Fr. Potatoes teach you not to name call? Why do you resort to these base comments?

This happens when one cannot defend their positions. Sister Mary Midget told me so.

Don’t waste electons on Vlad. He has already resorted to name calling.

Happens when one has their fourth point of contact handed to them.

“Well Vlad resorting to unsubstantiated insults seems to be your comfort zone.”

Ralph Adam Cram was a Protestant.

“This and before calling those who disagree with you “morons” is not exhibiting maturity.”

I simply tell the truth. If it bothers you - and apparently it does - that’s your problem.

“Don’t worry I grew up in the same Catholic schools you did...I won’t rat you out.”

No, not the same ones, and perhaps you didn’t accomplish what you claim. Feel free to “rat” me out, although that seems like a reference to something on 4th or 5th grade level so again, I am not sure you accomplished what you claim to have. I didn’t nothing wrong and I don’t care about the consequences.

“Perhaps resorting to defending your doctrines with scriptures might work a bit better for you.”

I already did that. And it went well - as we see from the sputtering Protestant side.

“Try it sometime.”

I do it all the time.

“and this was due in part to efforts of the Catholic Church to keep it out of the hands of the people.”

There were no such efforts on the part of the Catholic Church. No ecumenical council, no pope, no canon law from the pope or ecumenical council ever kept the Bible out of the hands of anyone.

No, actually you didn’t.

“did you not read the rest of the post?”

Sure did. Waste of time and effort.

>>I already did that. And it went well<<

No, it really didn’t. Your definition of “church” is no where found in scripture. Your definition of “Lord” is not found in scripture. Lord is the same as master and is used that way in scripture. When Catholics repeat the same polemic over and over and use scripture in ways it doesn’t mean it simply is an indication that Catholics have been so indoctrinated by the RCC that the truth of scripture is lost to them. As we post scripture we understand that the Catholics here are not the ones we reach. It’s the lurkers who God is reaching who understand that Catholics completely miss the Spirit of scripture.

So you see. We really don’t care what you believe. We simply need to present the scripture and believe that God reaches those who He is calling.

I believe you overlooked my point. No one in the OT or NT prayed to departed saints or prophets. The only examples we have of people praying to anyone other than God are pagan examples. I provided ample scriptural evidence.

“Your definition of “Lord” is not found in scripture.”

Sure it is: the body of Christ, the bride of Christ. No Protestants are in it by their own choice.

“better check your history.”

I willing to bet I know it better than you do. Every Protestant anti-Catholic bigot here at FR has made essentially the same claim you have. And all have failed to prove it. You will too. My specialty was Church History when I was a doctoral student in history. I did more historical research to finish that degree than you’ll do in a lifetime of armchair cutting and pasting from internet anti-Catholic websites.

“I pray you find the truth in these matters.”

Your prayer was answered many years ago. That’s why I am not a Protestant, but instead an orthodox Christian. I thank God for His grace and loving-kindness that spared me, a sinner, from falling into the filth of Protestant heresy and sectarianism.

In Revelation 2:6, 15, God said he "hated" the Nicolaitans who sought to set up a hierarchy to rule over the people. A study of the word Nicolaitans shows it to mean the bishops of the assemblies gained a victory (Nico) or conquest over the Laiton or the laity. Members were compelled to submit to the dominion of men. God states that that is something He hates.

Once people begin to realize that and stop following man perhaps they can begin to realize the error that exists in the concept of “church” today. The concept of the “universal church” is nothing more than a man made construct to usurp the authority of Christ and impose control over people.

No one ever denied Mary was called Mother of my Lord. It is the extrapolation of the title of Mother of God which is absent from scriptures.

One can make the extrapolation. If so then it was not Peter who first revealed Jesus as the Son of the Living God but Elizabeth.

It’s the lurkers who God is reaching who understand that Catholics completely miss the Spirit of scripture.

"Spirit of scripture." Sounds like you're doing to scripture what Henry Blackmun did with emanations and penumbras of the Constitution, ignoring or redefining what was there in order to get what he wanted to be there.

And certainly, for your polemical purposes, you could come up with something a little more persuasive than talking about a solitary meaning of "Lord." You made an assertion. So come up with a table showing actual examples of "Your definition of "Lord" is not found in scripture" and demonstrate, not just assert, that there are no supporting examples found in scripture.

>> I thank God for His grace and loving-kindness that spared me, a sinner, from falling into the filth of Protestant heresy and sectarianism.<<

Luke 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

Those who seek truth know how that turned out for him.

You said the Sisters repeated themselves. I said repetition doesn't cause us to be heard.

Now you say they are praying to the departed. I responded to that already, saying that those you call "departed" may be alive.

So you have never asked anyone to pray for you?
