Gay Bishop Gene Robinson Asks Pope Francis to Change Doctrine Branding Homosexuality a Disorder
Christian Post ^ | 03/18/2014 | Stoyan Zaimov

Gene Robinson, recognized as the first openly gay bishop in a major Protestant denomination, has called on Pope Francis to change the Roman Catholic Church's official doctrine that defines homosexuality as a disorder, arguing that such a teaching is "the basis for discrimination, rejection and violence the world over."

The Vatican has repeatedly said that Pope Francis is not seeking to make doctrine changes, however.

"If Pope Francis is to be believed in all the kindly pronouncements of his first year (and I do), his good tone should be followed by the tough work of changing the systems of belief, doctrine and religious practice which perpetuate the victimization of those he seeks to serve," Robinson, who was installed as bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church in 2004 and retired in 2013, wrote in an article for The Daily Beast on Sunday.

The retired bishop shared that he loves the new pope and that he prays for him every day, describing his commitment to the poor as "exemplary and legendary."

He also praised Francis for the change in tone he has brought to the Catholic Church in its attitude toward gay people, most famously with his remark to reporters last year: "If someone is gay and seeks the Lord with good will, who am I to judge?"

Robinson wrote, however, that the Vatican officially brands gay people as "intrinsically disordered." He argued that such judgment is "the basis for discrimination, rejection and violence the world over."

Adding that he realizes that such a big change in doctrine will not happen overnight, Robinson suggested that under Francis' leadership, the church body "may have the best chance at giving it a serious try."

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states about homosexual attraction:

"This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition. "

Pope Francis and Vatican officials have repeatedly affirmed traditional marriage, even in talk that the church body might look into certain cases of civil unions.

"Matrimony is between a man and a woman," the pope said in a recent interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, while adding that "diverse situations of cohabitation [are] driven by the need to regulate economic aspects among persons, as for instance to assure medical care."

Media reports on Pope Francis' stance on LGBT issues have sometimes been criticized, and what is often not quoted is his explanation after the "Who am I to judge?" line:

"The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains this very well. It says one must not marginalize these persons, they must be integrated into society. The problem isn't this (homosexual) orientation – we must be like brothers and sisters. The problem is something else, the problem is lobbying either for this orientation or a political lobby or a Masonic lobby," the Vatican leader said.

If the Pope did suddenly say that homosexuality or homosexual acts are no longer a sin, would that make it so in the Catholic religion?

If a pig sprouted wings and flew past your window, would it be a bird?

“If he’s homosexually “ active” he has no business as a Christian cleric”

This disgusting POS Gene Robinson “married” his “partner” years ago. He used to sit in the front pew when Genie boy was conducting a service.

Robinson came out to his and Boo’s friends in 1985/1986[when?] and he sold out his part of the business to Boo. They remain friends.[2] In November 1987, Robinson met his partner, Mark Andrew, while on vacation in St. Croix. Andrew was on vacation and worked in Washington, D.C., at the national office of the Peace Corps. On July 2, 1988, Robinson and Andrew moved into a new house and had it blessed by Bishop Douglas Theuner, an event which they considered to be the formal recognition of their life together.[2] Andrew currently works in the New Hampshire state government. He was legally joined to Robinson in June 2008 in a private civil union ceremony, followed by a religious ceremony, both in St Paul’s Church, Concord.[9] [10] Earlier, Robinson had said, “I always wanted to be a June bride.” [11][12]

Not all Episcopal ministers are homosexuals. Sounds to me like you are saying they are. I would suspect the figure is very small, no more than the percentage in the general population, which is around 2%.

And now for the icky quote from the dirty bishop:

“God’s light and God’s life ooze
over me like warm butter.”

A man is born a man and a woman is born a woman. To deny this the perversion is already begun. A man is born a man and if he does not choose to be a man, there is a problem. A woman is born a woman and if she does not choose to be a woman, there is a problem. This is where the problem begins. Why wouldn’t a man elect to not be a man if he was born one? Arrogance! That’s it! Arrogance! Why wouldn’t a woman elect to be a woman if she’s been born one? Pure arrogance! That’s what homosexuality is, arrogance. They always say nobody understands them, but where is their responsibility to understand anybody else? If you watch, they never understand anyone else.

It is not the only denomination from which pastors can convert to Rome and petition to be accepted into the priesthood. Lutherans may do so as well. IDK about others. It is an individual case by case proposition.

There are several church denominations which, for more than one reason, have really super gone off the rail in recent times.
I count the Episcopals (at least in USA) and Anglicans (UK) as among these extremely wayward churches. I’m not considering fine doctrinal differences or distinctions, but the totality of the “product” insofar as what the Bible teaches for our lives.

When friends ask my thoughts on what churches they should attend, I do not include these.

I find it odd that while the Catholic church condemns Protestant churches for being too liberal in that area, that they’ll accept the ordination of men from the very denominations they condemn.

Why not? Their views would be more in line with the majority. But i think Lutherans (besides those of the Byzantine Rite) may also be accepted, but the distinctive title "priest" not celibacy as a normative requirement would be accepted by the NT church. Just another distinction btwn that and Rome.

I'm pretty sure that the Catholic Church doesn't call homosexuality a "disorder". It calls it "sin".

They speak of the desire as disordered and the acting on the desire as a sin.... as I understand it.

So if they all agreed, they could declare homosexuality to no longer be a sin according to Catholics?

“Their views would be more in line with the majority”

The masses DO NOT write doctrine. There will never be openly homosexual priests allowed into the Catholic clergy. The number one reason given for Angelicans (Episcopalian in the USA) for converting to the Catholic faith is due to theological liberalism with the acceptance of homosexuality, female clergy, as well as the denial of many scriptural beliefs. The same thing is happening in the Lutheran faith.

In 2009, Pope Benedict issued an order allowing Anglican priests who disagreed with the teachings of the Church of England to convert to Catholicism. One-hundred-twenty former Anglicans have been ordained Catholic priests, with many more on the way.

The Magisterium (all Catholic bishops united to him) must speak in unity on a matter pertaining to faith or morals in order to refine (never contradict) a major teaching.

ALL??

Not a majority?

...he’ll most probably just ignore it as another one of those similar nuisance demands that come from everywhere else.

He'd be mistaken. The gay agenda against the church is not to be underestimated. Look at our once proud military.

the Great Falling Away?

If so, this sure is going to be a time of “testing” for all the saints(Believers). If any of us are not sure they are grounded in the Word of God, let us do that from today forward. We are going to face pressures of an unprecedented time in this world. Our faith will try to be shaken by Satan. This includes the “soon-to-come” MARK.

False Christs

Matthew 24:4-14
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Witnessing to All Nations(Mark 13:10-13; Luke 21:10-19)

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

The masses DO NOT write doctrine.

Are you still trying to defend liberal Rome based upon its paper conservatism? As said, Scripturally what you believe is manifest by what you do, and thus foster, and while you may dismiss the majority of Catholics as liberals, Rome treats them as members in life and in death.

If you were in the NT church you would be able to cast the proabortion, prohomosexual members out, rather than giving even notorious public examples of such an apostolic blessing.

Rome even has removed from canon law Code the provision that allowed for making a formal act of defection from the Catholic Church, and of any juridical effects deriving from it (partly because of the financial effect).
