The Southern Baptist Conventions top spokesman for moral and public policy concerns says Russian President Vladimir Putin lacks moral authority to criticize Western countries for abandoning Christian values.
It really kind of makes my blood boil when I hear Vladimir Putin claiming to be pro-family values, Russell Moore, head of the SBC Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission said in a Feb. 19 podcast titled, Is Russia really a pro-family values nation?

Probably shouldn’t be casting stones regardless.
That Mr. KGB who imprisons and poisons political opposition, frames people for crimes, takes over the mass media might not be very family friendly
Thanks for the clarification.
>> Moore cited Russias rampant abortion rate and restrictions on foreign adoption in a country that has orphanages filled with children. <<
Russia’s abortion rate is down over 80% since Putin was elected. What an idiot.
Wow, settle down, and drop the personal stuff.
I spent too many years in the military to not be able to speak out on Russia, and too many years as an American not to be able to correct anyone who longs for a state church or who thinks the Orthodox has done anything for Russians.
Russia has always been a basket case when it wasn’t just being a bunch of mass murdering Communists.
Don’t personalize every subject.
See how it works, yet? Check #10. You call personal attack after delivering one and the Catholic is gone. Works, alright, but not before you got your hat. :)
I can’t even figure out what you are raging about, post 9 was a simple enough reference to facts.
If you take condemnation of your religious group personally, then you should ignore "open" RF threads altogether and instead post to RF threads labeled "prayer" "devotional" "caucus" or "ecumenical."
You can add invading neighboring countries like Georgia for the sin of being pro-US. Or add bombing an apartment complex, populated with his own people, to re-start a war in Chechnya.
What happened to Southern Baptists? The SBC “leaders” are more afraid of the government than they are of the God they supposedly serve.
No explanation is necessary.
This thread speaks for itself. A typical outcome for Catholics answering inflammatory protestant stalkers, it speaks for itself just fine.
However, what I “should ignore” is up to me. “Condemnation of my religion”, when directed at me out of nowhere is taken personally, and is also up to me.
This thread title was on the Main Politics Forum. It was unmarked as Religion Forum, Prayer, Devotions, Caucus. Who knew?
I do not stalk protestants, to make inflammatory comments or posts to antagonize protestants, nor show up consistently looking for trouble on “open” threads to insult protestants and rag on their faith.
I expect the same respect when I am addressed. These people need not post to me at all if they don’t want push back, but they hit and run for the moderator, instead. Whatever works for them. I don’t care.
The thread was posted to the Religion Forum. If you do not wish to see RF posts, do NOT use the “everything” option on the Free Republic browse option list. Instead, browse by “News/Activism.” When you log back in, the browse will reset to “everything” - so be sure to set it back to “News/Activism.”
Have you considered Russia's geographic position across centuries of her history ? Which countries have fared better without the Orthodox ?
If you mean post 9, it was none of those things, I was posting about Russia and their state, or sometimes state church, it never occurred to me that it had anything to do with you as far as being Russian or a member of that denomination, I was merely reacting to the revealed ignorance about Russian history, some of us vets have strong feelings about Russia.
I didn’t have anything to do with the moderator removing some of the extraordinary posts that you started flaming the thread with.
Don’t carry grudges from thread to thread, and try to read the posts and respond to them, not attack individuals personally.
Having lived through much of Russian history, I don’t need to now start praising them, thank God their monstrous empire fell without taking us all with them.
How did you get to live over a thousand years ? Was it diet, or imagination ?
12 How so? The organization is still strongly conservative.
Already covered by Freepers - (1) amnesty for illegal aliens, (2) and sharia law for U.S. Muslims among themselves.
Richard Land was formerly the president of The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), the moral and ethics concern entity of the Southern Baptist Convention in the U.S., a post he held from 1988 to 2013. It is arguably the denomination's committee with the highest profile on theology/policy commentary. Land retired from this position effective Oct. 23, 2013, at age 67. He is currently the president of Southern Evangelical Seminary (non-denominational) in Charlotte, NC.
Land got into hot water with the SBC on 3/31/2012 during his radio broadcast, "Richard Land Live!" Land accused the Obama administration and civil rights leaders of using the Trayvon Martin case to deliberately stir up racial tension and "gin up the black vote" for Obama in the 2012 election. His comments were criticized by several black Southern Baptist pastors, who felt they reversed a long effort by the SBC to distance itself from a past history of racism. Among those black pastors was the newly elected president of the SBC, Fred Luter (from New Orleans). Luter had earlier said on his watch that he wanted to bring more blacks into the SBC's administration.
The SBC has had an ongoing committee working to find a new name for the denomination. The church's leadership thinks "Southern" is not representative of today's church, especially with its past history over slavery prior to the Civil War.
Richard Land led the way and fought the good fight against the Boy Scouts of America in 2013 when it announced it intended to change its membership policy to admit open homosexuals. He acquitted himself with honor in that fight, which sadly, the BSA won.
The new president of the ERLC is 43 year-old Russell D. Moore. He succeeded Land. He is still new on his watch. I was not encouraged with his comments/tone regarding the BSA accepting homosexual youth as members. He came across as wishy washy. Time will tell.
Well we can waste time on awkward wording and misspelled words and other such internet burps.
I’m curious why, on what I thought was a thread on Russia, it is so hostile.
There is evidently a lot more going on with this subject than I was aware of.
I’m being reminded of how in the religion section, the American can often be treated as the foreigner, there is evidently subtext to this that I just didn’t know about.
Of what government are they supposedly fearful? The SBC is one of the most conservative groups around!
