MOSCOW — At the height of the Cold War, it was common for American conservatives to label the officially atheist Soviet Union a “godless nation.”
More than two decades on, history has come full circle, as the Kremlin and its allies in the Russian Orthodox Church hurl the same allegation at the West.
“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a recent keynote speech. “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”
In his state of the nation address in mid-December, Mr. Putin also portrayed Russia as a staunch defender of “traditional values” against what he depicted as the morally bankrupt West. Social and religious conservatism, the former KGB officer insisted, is the only way to prevent the world from slipping into “chaotic darkness.”
As part of this defense of “Christian values,” Russia has adopted a law banning “homosexual propaganda” and another that makes it a criminal offense to “insult” the religious sensibilities of believers.
The law on religious sensibilities was adopted in the wake of a protest in Moscow’s largest cathedral by a female punk rock group against the Orthodox Church’s support of Mr. Putin. Kremlin-run television said the group’s “demonic” protest was funded by “some Americans.”

I think the cold reality is that any person with an eye and ear for History realizes that decadence is the start of the decay of any society or nation.
Putin realizes that...even China. We’re on a very quick spiral downward. Aside from a few voices in the Catholic Church and some local pastors, no takes on the Gay and Lesbian lobby in this country.
But what nice about Capitalism, all things shake out. Homosexuality was considered a medical illness, with tons a research to back this up. The Gay lobby was successful in making in a normal lifestyle no longer with an ICD9 Code.
I’d like to think that Putin is sincere, but I think he simply realizes that he can rally his country thru the church better than he can otherwise.
Russia is making a valid point.
Russia is on its own, a relatively hostile nation, and we should in no way forget their history.
But yet, we have sent American industry to a still-communist nation which now exports more than we do.
Times change. Our side needs to open our eyes, and start to pay attention that we have a new challenger.
We need to pay close attention to Russia, but we also need to pay close attention to China, yet I see absolutely zero evidence that (either) of our political parties is paying attention to China yet.
China is now the largest exporter on earth.
And China is a massive communist nation.
Wake up people. Bring back American jobs.
Great nations don’t do what this nation is doing now.
Even if said accusation does not apply to those of us in most of flyover country.
Even a significant portion of self-professed Christians are all to happy to put their religion in the back seat and surrender to the godless ACLU homosexual mafia in exchange for extracting more free stuff from their fellow Americans. And that includes many in the GOP as well.
Why not? He was brought up surrounded by the effects of godless society without hope. My mother was Russian Orthodox, and it seemed that the religion is much more spiritual and connected to its values than the RC church has become.
I can believe that it has influenced Putin. He's an intelligent, accomplished man who cares about his country. We should be so fortunate.

Correct, but that doesn’t mean Russian attitudes aren’t changing. The fact that Putin appeals to these ideals says something about how the Russians identify with them.
And mentioning China in all this is important. Nowhere is religious feeling growing faster than in China, and there is a large segment in the communist party who know their country is plagued by degeneracy because of the vacuous hole left in the culture after Mao demolished Confucianism. It will be a slow and gradual change of course, but the recent rhetoric surrounding the one-child policy indicates China may be leaning more toward Russia’s trajectory than ours.
I look around and see this reject basketballer Collins at the SOTU, I see unadulterated debauchery at the Grammy awards from the digusting pig that is Madonna, I see the crap they put in kids shows and the crap teachers spew in classrooms.
Whether we want to admit it or not, we are being Europeanized... and that will be devastating for America.
Maybe we should be looking at ourselves and that we will find we are falling apart as a moral conservative Constitutional nation. Look at the Hollywood trash and most of the movies are blood and spilled guts. One hard look at King Obama and his communists organization is enough to make a sane person cry. We are decaying at a rapid pace. I hope someday we will find someone like a Regan and pull us back. Rome was once a great nation and it fell in some ways like we are heading.

.....But safe to say, it has an important point.
I would be interested in an analysis of how the Catholic Church has lost so much influence in its homelands of Italy, Spain, and Portugal, but the same has not happened in Russia.
How do the operations of these churches change the outcome they produce?

As long as we have patriotic Americans, that will never happen. What will happen...God willing...is that Russia and its perverted ideology gets cast upon the “ash heap of history” and that communism is given its rightful place in history...as a godless, life killing, freedom restricting, death loving ideology that has no place among people who would be free.
You think China’s markets are free?
Look closer.
Foreigners cannot truly participate in China’s markets. Not as true, majority owners.
China is a communist nation. Still. Communist. They are a pro-Chinese, aggressively competitive nation, but they are communist.
We need to look very clearly at the nation we are building up so quickly.
I think we very much, need to stop sending US money to China, and start to build up America.

....But SAD to say, even those who are NOT our friends, often God DOES speak to us via them.
This great nation is filled with sinners who will not repent. The truth is the truth, as much as it hurts.
American culture is 90% filth and pride.
