A nun who gave birth to a baby boy in the central Italian city of Rieti, said she had no idea she was pregnant, local media report.
The 31-year-old was rushed to hospital with abdominal pains, which she thought were stomach cramps.
The young mother, who is originally from El Salvador, reportedly named her newborn Francis after the current Pope.

Kind of like a guy I knew who missed work and said,”I was on my way when suddenly a drunkeness fell upon me.”
Never heard that one before - it's very nice.
“There is a joke here somewhere that I am missing.”
Maybe the old one:
No one gets nun but the priest!
Hearsay, of course, but my friend Liz told me about an acquaintance of hers who had a daughter the same age as my friends’ daughter. The woman had been completely surprised to have a baby. No awareness at all. She was a weird and obese person who was incredibly un-self-aware. This may not be as impossible as we think, given some people’s mental states.
(BTW, I definitely noticed my pregnancies, too.)
Oh, that’s bad.......
Are some women’s cycles THAT irregular?
Sheesh, that alone, knowing you’ve had sex, ought to be the FIRST red flag.
People who are anorexic don’t get their period for months and months sometimes. People who are heading toward menopause may skip for a long time as well. Some people who are pregnant have a little bleeding.
I can’t imagine anyone being anorexic and not notice being pregnant.
Thirty one is not exactly heading towards menopause.
I am aware that bleeding can happen while pregnant, bleeding during a pregnancy wouldn’t be all that regular.
But that is just ONE indicator. Put that together with the rest of the symptoms of pregnancies, like the baby kicking you in the ribs, and there’s something just not right about a woman who doesn’t recognize that she’s pregnant. I still think there’s a whole lot of denial going on in those women.
Really?
Didn’t she feel her habit getting a little snug? At least she didn’t do an Agnes-of-God and let the child live.
“There is a joke here somewhere that I am missing.”
I can feel it too, but I just don’t know what it is! It’ll come to me eventually.
Perhaps. People can explain away all kinds of stuff, especially if they don’t know what it’s a symptom of. Odd people are probably even better at that.
"Fie! Will you look at the state of the clergy these days!" the first one exclaimed.
Not long after, a Rabbi was seen entering the same house.
"Oy! What is going on these days with the clergy? That's the second one we've seen today!", replied the second woman.
Just then, a Catholic priest walked up and went in the same door.
"Poor dear!", they said in unison, "She must be very sick!", ;o)
Here's hoping the nun and her child are both fine and both have Jesus in their lives.
Unless sister was on the “heavy” side, there’s no way you don’t know you’re carrying a nine pound baby!
Early thirties...not so young. Naive? Possibly.
With her second and third pregnancies Mrs. Gamecock knew she was pregnant before she even missed her period. She knew something was going on with the first and had the same exact symptoms with 2 and 3.
