Did God want to 'put His thumb on humanity' as Satan suggested to Eve in Genesis 3:1-5?

Satan, in the Garden of Eden, speaking to Eve (through the serpent) said in Genesis 3:1-5 that if Eve would stretch forth her hand and eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil that she would not die, but would become as gods knowing good and evil.

Satan essentially proffered the idea to Eve that:

1.) God wanted to keep something from her (as well as Adam) and 2.) that God had lied to her when He told her that she would die.

Essentially, Satan said to Eve that God wanted to keep His thumb on Adam and Eve, and had constructed a lie to guarantee this and thereby keep them from eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. As well, Satan also said that eating of this tree would get them out from under God's thumb by making them as gods knowing good and evil.

The fallacy in Satan's argument is that if God indeed wanted to keep His thumb on Adam and Eve all God would have to have done is never make a tree of knowledge of good and evil in the first place.

If Eve had retorted to the serpent that no tree made in the first place means no ability to get what the serpent said they could get -- and God need only to make no tree in the first place to keep this from happening. Thus Eve could then say to the serpent (Satan) that he was a liar and that there was another reason for this particular tree (albeit unknown to her at that time).

If he did not know, then he is not omniscient - theologically, an impossibility.

God exists outside of time and is aware of everything everywhere. How can humans be said to make any decisions under this scenario?

"Free will came into play…."

And that is precisely the point.

Only w/ free will can man give his love freely back to God.

Free will is a great gift and a terrible burden.

Regarding #12, yes. Same choice we all have.

He did, and Eve disobeyed and ate of the tree that God had told her and Adam NOT to eat from.

Why is Eve punished for doing evil, before she eats of the fruit of knowledge? She didn't know she was doing wrong until she took a bite.

There is something far deeper going on imo. The worlds greatest story has secrets yet to be revealed. Us fleas were created to worship God but we have to be shown what happens when we rule the earth our way.

So prepare for the Kingdom of God to be brought to earth

Lucifer was explicitly thrown out of heaven with his minions for making war on God

Since we are talking about the Old Testament, where specifically does it say that? Or are you thinking of Milton's "Paradise Lost"?

No where in Scripture does it directly say anything about the failed rebellion in Heaven that Satan lost causing him and his other former angel followers to be cast out.

I'd like to know if you do. I've always been interested in that but haven't found it in the Bible.

Perhaps in Revelation but I don't consider that the literal Word of God.

Job is usually regarded as fictional by most rabbinical authorities, and I suspect, a lot of Christian pastors.

I would like to hear that answer too.

Perhaps in Revelation but I don't consider that the literal Word of God.

I believe Revelations was revealed to John by the way of Visions from God. Which to me is the word of God.

I think - and I have no way of knowing this - that God created the Tree of Choice because He loved man as His own creation; but He wanted man to freely choose Him - despite the promise of a pleasing alternative - and to reject an existence separate from Him. Sadly, Eve and Adam chose otherwise.

“I don’t believe in Satan, as it undermines monotheism...”

How so?

“...but that God Himself was the deceptive agent in The Garden at that time when human beings learned to abstract good and evil from within their own minds.”

So, you think that God lies?

“She didn’t know she was doing wrong until she took a bite.”

She knew she was doing something forbidden, because that rule had been explained to her explicitly.

For the love of money is the root of all evil”, but in Genesis the original sin was hypothesis testing.

money is the root, not the seed. the root give sin it's strength.

Revelation 1, read it.
(My paraphrase) From Jesus Christ, which God gave Him (Jesus), given to angel, passed on to John, written to the 7 churches. Tells John to write the things which you have seen, the things, which are and the things which shall take place after these things.

If Eve had retorted to the serpent that . . . .

God wanted obedience, not a successful debate. Eve didn't have to respond at all. She (and Adam with her) could have just walked away. We don't have to have winning arguments to keep from sin.

After gaining the knowledge of good and evil, mankind has been operating on such knowledge ever since. God wants us to return to obedience based on faith. Obedience doesn't require that we are able to answer ever lie presented to us.

"By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments." 1 John 5:2-3

The sad part is that Eve had already caught Satan twisting God's words and corrected him once. Why on earth in paradise, did she keep listening to him after that?
