If Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin don’t like the pope, they won’t care much for Jesus (He's serious)

Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are starting to sour on the new pope.

In response to Pope Francis’ first Apostolic Exhortation, in which the pontiff denounced “trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” these two paragons of the far right – both of whom regularly invoke the teachings of Jesus to bolster their own political views – have suddenly turned their backs on the man whose actual job description is to speak for Jesus.

Sarah Palin complained that Pope Francis sounded “kind of liberal” in his statements decrying the growing global income equality between the rich and the poor (she has since apologized).

Rush Limbaugh went one step further. “This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope,” he harrumphed into his giant microphone.

Limbaugh, in his trademarked conspiratorial style, speculated that the pope’s tirade against “widespread corruption and self-serving tax evasion” must have been forced upon him by somebody else. “Somebody has either written this for [the pope] or gotten to him,” he said.

Limbaugh is right. Somebody did get to Pope Francis. It was Jesus....

No wonder this is so far left leaning.

Carl Olson is no leftist. I’ve met him in person and heard him talk about his conversion from a wayward Protestant church. Don’t remember which one now.

Please get the facts. The Vatican is not rich in material goods; in faith, yes, but not belongings of this world.

We believers don't need a "Pope". This is a name of blasphemy according to Jesus. See Matthew 23:9. The terms "Father" and "Pope" (Papa) we are commanded not to use in reference to religious "superiors." There aren't any.

I've always wondered how it is that Catholics have thought it is OK to call a man "pope" and their priests "father" when the bible explicitly says not to do that.

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/03/08/wealth-of-roman-catholic-church-impossible-to-calculate/

What do we know about the church’s finances?

1 The symbolic value, in euros, of the buildings in Vatican City. The church uses this number to indicate they are priceless and could never be sold. They include: the Apostolic Palace, the pope’s official residence; the Sistine Chapel, best known for murals by Botticelli and Michelangelo, who painted the ceiling and the famous Last Judgment behind the altar; and St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world erected over the supposed burial site of the apostle St. Peter, the first bishop of Rome.

716,290 The amount of Church-owned land, in square kilometres, across the globe — an area slightly bigger than Alberta. Properties include Vatican embassies, churches, cathedrals, monasteries, some schools and convents.

10 Reported investment (in billions of dollars) in foreign companies by the Institute of Religious Works (the Vatican bank) in the 1990s. It has holdings in such industries as banking, insurance, chemicals, steel, construction and real estate. It only invests in companies that operate according to Catholic morals. For example, it will not invest in a pharmaceutical company that produces birth control.

86 In millions of dollars, Peter’s Pence in 2011. The Vatican’s most important source of ready cash is made up of donations from parishes across the globe. The money is spent on humanitarian projects, including disaster relief, medical aid, and help to the poor in developing nations, children and refugees.

22.4 In millions of dollars, the approximate value of almost one metric tonne of gold owned by the Holy See in 2008.

308 In millions of dollars, the Vatican’s revenue in 2011. It spent $326.4-million, but ended the year with a $27-million surplus.

To be fair, I do not single out the Roman Catholic Church in its hypocrisy concerning wealth and poverty. I disdain garden variety protestant televangelists that insist their flock must tithe, while living in ostentatious luxury.

Free Enterprise is the greatest creator and distributor of wealth ever devised by mankind.

Like lifetime employees of government, clergy usually haven’t a clue how wealth is created.

The author is misrepresenting and only partially reporting what Rush had to say in the program cited (of which I listened to in its entirety)

After saying the remark about what the Pope was saying was tantamount to Marxism, Rush went to a hard break. When he returned to the air he made mention of several emails that suggested that the Pope was being mistranslated or misrepresented by leftists within the Press.

At first, Rush said, he thought that was a silly assumption. But, then he said, I started to think of ALL the times they misrepresented ME, and now I admit that could be a possibility.

For Rush to admit he could be wrong, so quickly after making a statement shows that he gave the theories of his listeners the benefit of the doubt.

And, sure enough, this very article about him proves that theory correct.

Did Sarah apologize for speaking the truth?

"I am more afraid of my own heart than of the pope and all his cardinals. I have within me the great pope, self."

Martin Luther

People who believe their own Most High and Holy Self is better able to interpret Scripture than the Holy Spirit is able to protect Scripture from the inclusion of error ignore everything except the brilliant glow of their Self.

Who is Carl Olson and what does he have to do with the Vatican putting out transcripts in English which was the subject of my post?

Thanks for the ping. The Pope does seem to be siding with the left. If not, he certainly needs to watch out for and publically correct translation errors.

Wishing You a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Readers:

Thanksgiving is a time-honored and cherished American tradition, rooted in the Christian belief that God is the source of all life and goodness, deserving our humble thanks and praise.

Here is a selection of thoughts and prayers from some Ignatius Press books and authors about thanksgiving and gratitude. They have helped me to reflect more deeply on the importance and necessity of thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy them.

Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

Carl E. Olson

The pope has already stated prosletization is solemn nonsense.

The pope has no expertise nor authority to speak in favor of state mandated socialism.

The pope has it wrong about the Jews.

Pope Francis and the Old Covenant

Evangelii gaudium is very flawed. Nothing new from this pope.

While I am loathe to defend many aspects of the Roman church, your figures are most certainly inflated, though not unexpected when defending a cult. The details that I am able to locate show a figure of 5-6,000 over several centuries, with perhaps half of those being Protestant. The rest were Jews and Muslims who publicly converted to the Roman faith, but kept their old faith practices while in private.

FWIW, there was some mercy and order involved in the inquisitions. Only 2% of the trials resulted in execution. The MMM? 100% of all but small children were murdered. During the trials, the Roman church officials wore their religious garb and those on trial, knew they were on trial before a court of some kind. The MMM? Trial? What trial? The Baker-Fancher wagon train was attacked by cultists, dressed as Natives then, the victims were summarily shot by more cultists. The Mormon church then tried to cover up the masacre and blame it on the Indians.

Another difference: The Roman church owns up to their action. The Mormon cult? No.

“I don’t think Jesus taught much about the government and when he did, it wasn’t kindly”.

No, but he damn sure said if you have money give it away and follow Him! How many people follow that advice?

“Welfare projects, which meet certain urgent needs, should be considered merely temporary responses”,

This is what Rush should be talking about.
