**To paraphrase Bishop Sheen, fallen away Catholics often are the most vocal enemies of the Church.**
So true.

So true.
Absolutely, they are more vehement due to their world view not holding up to historical analysis or verification, i.e. gph, who likes to cherry pick, at best, any sort history he feels supports his lonely, and shrinking world view.
“Once again WE ALL have to do our part.”
Here, while you’re working your way to Heaven........
“and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; Isa 64:6
or
“When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With
that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. ...” John 19:30
I guess that wasn’t good enough for you. YOU are going to present God with your Bill and say “Ok,- Pay - up Lord”
Thanks for making my point. If the Catholic Church ever preached Salvation they would put themselves right out of a job in the Confessional Booth.
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me” John 14:6
Like I said “ You don’t have to get cleaned up to take a bath. Let God be God......please.
I’m not making your point. The Good Thief asked for forgiveness. Jesus gave it to him.
Are you saying that Jesus doesn’t forgive anyone?

Catechism of the Catholic Church
1449 The formula of absolution used in the Latin Church expresses the essential elements of this sacrament: the Father of mercies is the source of all forgiveness. He effects the reconciliation of sinners through the Passover of his Son and the gift of his Spirit, through the prayer and ministry of the Church:
God, the Father of mercies, |
“Are you saying that Jesus doesnt forgive anyone?”
Where did I say that?
You really are confused.
You are the one who is teaching people to add to the Sacrifice of Christ: (i.e., WE all have to do our part”)
That’s what you said. Does the Priest tell you what your
Penance is? What gives him the authority to dish out Penance? He’s not God. Neither is the Pope!
Like I said ..........Thanks for making my point.
The Catholic Church needs to preach the Good NEWS!
Jesus Saves. That’s it.
Amen.
No kidding? Why would think a priest is closer to God than you are? If you’re now a protestant do you think Jimmy Swaggart, Joel Osteen and all those TV evangelists are closer to God than you? The answer to all those questions is NO! We are all sinners trying out best to do what God wants us to do. We all have our ups and downs.
lol
What drew me to the Catholic Church was the theology and doctrine. Not a priest, not a layman. The never-changing doctrine and theology. The Word of God that is based on the Holy Scriptures, not a show of hands from the people in the pew.
And sexual abuse is higher in protestant faiths. The Catholic Church is all you hear about though because of the money issue. No church to sue in protestant faith, so need need to talk about protestants molesting anyone.
“What drew me to the Catholic Church was the theology and doctrine. Not a priest, not a layman. The never-changing doctrine and theology.”
I take it you came into the church after Vatican II? You should try comparing your theology to what it was even a hundred years ago, and then go back another hundred years, and then another hundred years, and see if it really is “never-changing.”
Somehow I must have missed much of these. Thanks for the informative post.
The Catholics all around the world hear a homily on the Scripture each and every Sunday.
Where are you getting this mistaken ideas? A pamphlet? A preacher who didn’t like Catholics?
You said that Catholics were into works and that it didn’t matter. It does matter, and as a former Catholic you should know that. Did you ever hear of the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy?
On the authority of the priest — the priest receives that authority from the Bishop and from the Pope at his ordination, the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Are you familiar with the three stages of Holy Orders?
I have no idea what your meaning is because of this post.
No Catholic in the 50's and 60's was encouraged to read the bible ... just go to mass and confession
**not a nominal Catholic that knows nothing of spiritual matters**
Why are you deriding Catholics?
What do you know about the Sacraments?
About the liturgy?
About the persecutions of Catholics around the world?
We are NOT nominal Catholics.
Your sensitivity is dangerous
EYE ... (I forgot one)
Well, then I’m thankful that you are no longer a nominal Catholic and are learning about Catholicism from others.
Bless you, you will be in my prayers as your knowledge improves.
