Does The Orthodox Presbyterian Church use the Crucifix?
The Orthodox Presbyterian Church ^

Question:

Does the OPC use the crucifix in the church? If not, are they opposed to it?

Answer:

Thank you for your question. The answer is, so far as I know, the crucifix is not used in OPC churches, and here is why:

1.The Second Commandment (Ex. 20:4-6 and Deut. 5:8-10) forbids any picture or image of God, and that would include the Son of God, even as man. At any rate we do not know what Jesus looked like as there is no physical description of him.

2.The crucifix will always end up being an object of worship—regarded as holy. History teaches as much. The bronze serpent Moses made became an object of worship and was not destroyed till King Hezekiah did it (Numbers 21:9; 2 Kings 18:1-5). Roman Catholics have worshipped it, kissed it and held it to have mystical powers.

3.Christ did not remain on the Cross. In the Roman Church Christ is said to be resacrificed each time the Mass is celebrated. This is heresy; he died once for all—Hebrews 9:25-28.

We in the OPC have learned not to trust our idolatry prone hearts not to do the same as others have in the past. Hence, no crucifixes are used. So, yes, we are opposed to it.

You are pushing illogic and strawman techniques on your replies.

The Sabbath starts Friday at Sunset-(people start to prepare usually around 3:00ish so that there is no work done past sunset) and Jews worship at temple on Saturdays (The first day of the week)

:)
THAT is what I said.

I think she means well, so I am not going to take offense. I would prefer, of course that she didn’t include me on any sort of rosary, as I think it is heresy. I don’t think it has any power over me, so it really isn’t hurtful.

No weapon formed against me shall prosper.

Your answers only hold true if you are Catholic. Are you now Claiming to be Catholic and accepting all of our doctrines and dogmatic articles of faith?

Sorry that you don’t what I write, but that is offensive to compare Jesus to a Dog! You had to know that.

And yet...

Mark 7:26-27
 26.  The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
 27.  "First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

The NIV group is the least reliable, and the most deeply and deliberately corrupted.

As Rooster was once told: "Mighty bold talk from a one-eyed fat man."

I'd like to see the evidence you've used to make this accusatory statement.

Mary wasn't full of grace?

Then; am I half full?

One third?

0.004576% full?

99.99% full?

Well; the Jews don't like Mormons being proxy baptized for their dead relatives, either.

?? DO you believe that Jesus is calling himself a Dog there? Is he saying that his life and death on the cross and his teachings amount to the life of a family dog, and he is telling this woman that he is nothing more than a dog?

Is that your understanding of that verse?

Matthew 28:20

teaching them to observe all that i have commanded you and lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, to the close of the age.

Colossians 1:27

to them God chose to make known how great among the gentiles are the riches of this mystery, which is CHRIST IN YOU, the hope of glory.

I hope no one makes the mistake of believing that the human nature of Jesus limits His divine nature. He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit and has all the attributes and power that they have.

that’s all very interesting, but it didn’t answer my question....who believes obeying the word of God is silly?

but your answer presents another question, who believes in worshipping idols? who believes that they are saved by wooden or carved image? please be specific in your answers. i look forward to learning from you.

Ps the Jewish Church worships on the first day of the Week (Saturday), the Sabbath, which you are to observe

my friend, the sabbath is the 7th day of the week or saturday in our calendar. Sunday is the first day of the week.
Christians do not keep the Sabbath, since Jesus fulfilled the law and kept it perfectly on our behalf. He is our Sabbath, we rest in Him. We are under the new Covenant of grace, instituted in the blood of Christ.
Christians, from the Apostolic Tradition, gather together to worship on the first day of the week, since this is the day that Jesus rose from the dead. To keep the Sabbath after Jesus went to the cross, is a denial that the law has been fulfilled. The only law that Christians are under is the law of love.

you have to laugh when you read that Constantine formed the Catholic Church, anyone who believes such nonsense i guess will believe anything....like Jesus did not turn water into wine for instance!

there are those that claim to be part of the same Church that existed for the first 15 centuries after Christ, but it can easily be shown that they could not possibly be, since they would be able to worship in that Church, just as they don’t worship in that Church today. Justin Martyr explained this very well in his work defending the Faith to the Roman Emperor:

Justin Martyr, Apology, I.66-67, 2nd century:
Communion in the Body and Blood of Christ

It is allowed to no one else to participate in that food which we call Eucharist except the one who believes that the things taught by us are true, who has been cleansed in the washing unto rebirth and the forgiveness of sins and who is living according to the way Christ handed on to us. For we do not take these things as ordinary bread or ordinary drink. Just as our Savior Jesus Christ was made flesh by the word of God and took on flesh and blood for our salvation, so also were we taught that the food, for which thanksgiving has been made through the word of prayer instituted by him, and from which our blood and flesh are nourished after the change, is the flesh of that Jesus who was made flesh. Indeed, the Apostles, in the records left by them which are called gospels, handed on that it was commanded to them in this manner: Jesus, having taken bread and given thanks said, ``Do this in memory of me, this is my body.’’ Likewise, having taken the cup and given thanks, he said, ``This is my blood’’, and he gave it to them alone

so unless one believed in baptismal regeneration and the Eucharist is the Body of Christ, that Church would consider anyone rejecting these doctrines as they thought of the Gnostics, a heretic.
