Does the OPC use the crucifix in the church? If not, are they opposed to it?

Answer:

Thank you for your question. The answer is, so far as I know, the crucifix is not used in OPC churches, and here is why:

1.The Second Commandment (Ex. 20:4-6 and Deut. 5:8-10) forbids any picture or image of God, and that would include the Son of God, even as man. At any rate we do not know what Jesus looked like as there is no physical description of him.

2.The crucifix will always end up being an object of worship—regarded as holy. History teaches as much. The bronze serpent Moses made became an object of worship and was not destroyed till King Hezekiah did it (Numbers 21:9; 2 Kings 18:1-5). Roman Catholics have worshipped it, kissed it and held it to have mystical powers.

3.Christ did not remain on the Cross. In the Roman Church Christ is said to be resacrificed each time the Mass is celebrated. This is heresy; he died once for all—Hebrews 9:25-28.

We in the OPC have learned not to trust our idolatry prone hearts not to do the same as others have in the past. Hence, no crucifixes are used. So, yes, we are opposed to it.

I find that lamb, like a good steak, is so much better served medium rare. Smoking of lamb, I think, would allow it to cook too long and bring out a gamier taste than grilling or roasting would. JMHO.

You have a point. The Mediterranean region, which has its share of smoked recipes, usually recommends roasted lamb.

The second adar, whenever used, has the effect of aligning the calendar with the sun.

It doesn’t matter too much exactly when it is invoked, as long as it is invoked somewhere in sequence. If it is delayed for a year, it has the same effect when it is finally invoked, so it really is not an issue. It doesn’t jog the sabbath out of position.

WOW! The same way they did when JESUS WAS present - NOT Believing on HIM. And when HE says 'remembrance' that is what HE means.

It's catholicsm and it's teaching that have their flock taking communion in an unworthy manner by unbelief. They also don't believe HE shed ALL His blood, nor that HE is sitting at the right Hand of the Father nor that Jesus gave up HIS Body for ALL and Catholicism says 'no, my people are eating it.' Catholics are profaning the blood Christ much to the pleasure of the one they believe 'man who is evil' who sits on his throne as if it's the most high.

Last year the wife and I ran a side by side comparison with the Thanksgiving turkey. I put one in the (smoke king water)smoker and the other I deep fried.

I used identical preparations on both and they weighed within 1/2 pound of each other.

The results: We liked them both for different reasons. The deep fried had the nice crisp skin, but the smoked had the nice mellow smoke flavor that we both enjoy.

Looks like I am going to have do do another test.

Try “brining” a turkey before you roast it. It is, by far, the best I have ever had. Never dry and always tender and flavorful. Cajun deep-fried is super, too. Not a big fan of smoked poultry. Pork or beef brisket, I like, and smoked fish is good.

Yep, almost. I meant “orthodox” but thanks for the correction. When you find my spelling wrong, it’s pretty usually because I type too carelessly with one hand, or I don’t scrutinize the text closely enough. No excuse — just a bad habit. Correct all you want. I like to write right.
