June 29, 2013.
7:00 pm open to the public.
Salt Lake City, Utah.
In June 2012, around over a hundred people showed up to support resignation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (also known as the Mormon or LDS church). This year, they are doing it again. Former and current members of the LDS church will be marching on Ensign Peak at 7pm on June 29, 2013, in a mass resignation event from the LDS church.
This event means a lot to the people who are involved. Resigning from the church is a milestone for some, showing that they no longer want to be associated with the LDS church or its practices. Many people never resign who no longer believe. Those who do resign do it to make a statement, either to the church, themselves, or their families. For some, that statement is simply to stop the church from contacting them to return. For others, that statement is for themselves, marking that they have moved beyond church culture and church beliefs. And still, for others, that statement is about disagreement with church history or practices, such as the Evergreen rehabilitation program, the polygamous nature of both Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, and changing church doctrines.
For many who resign, Mormonism has been a culture and way of life. Leaving the church can be a traumatic experience for some, as those people adjust to a world outside the church. As an example, people who leave the LDS church may not experience their first coffee, tea, or alcoholic drink until they have left the church, which could be in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. Many people who stop believing in the church feel that they have to learn to live a new life.
Members can resign from the LDS church by sending an email to msr-confrec@ldschurch.org with their full name, date of birth, and membership number. Other information such as baptism date and their ward or branch can also be supplied. A letter can also be sent to Member Records, 50 E North Temple, Room 1372, SLC UT 84150-5310.
The pattern I am seeing here are the people who once were Baptist/Methodist/Catholic/AG/whatever and then as adults became caught in mormonism are the most angry.
Usually, they didn’t like the others because of Grace and not works but walla mormonism is works, they have to work hard whether in home/church/community IE pay pennants.
Their physical exhaustion masks their Spiritual exhaustion.
Many people have a hard time dealing with or understanding Grace.
How simple God has made it for us, Grace.
What a merciful God we have, who loved us enough to say “here is My Grace, it is sufficient”.
“I love you and want you with Me always”.
Because we love Him, we strive to serve Him, to honor Him, to praise Him it is not a requirement for us but a desire from us to Him.
We are free in Him. Praise Him, and thank you Jesus.
Hmmmm...maybe I missed that lesson in my new church where it said all of us ex-mo's could go do that.
Nope, didn't do it.
"...- they are free to do whatever they want..."
Yes! Yes I am FREE! I turned from worshipping idols in SLC to God.
So sorry to disappoint those who are so convinced that people cannot find the Truth and to also upset the talking points handed down by your handlers in SLC.
"...once a fake mormonchristian leavesjoins the Church, they become absolutely obsessed with justifying their choice denigrating those who leave mormonism and then have the audacity to speak of it.
[sorry, had to correct the false assertion].
It is interesting that they feel the need to make a show of it. When someone decides to leave the Catholic Church, I dont remember them staging a mass (no pun intended) exodus and invite the media. Its just interesting.
Anyway, while these people are leaving the Church, others will take their place. Of course they are free to return but I have noticed that once a fake mormon leaves the Church, they become absolutely obsessed with justifying their choice.
OOOOHHH....DRINK COFFEE AND TEA!
(1) It assumes the worst about ex-Mormons.
(2) And the "obviously had no testimony in the first place" commentary is a sweepingly wide catch-all judgmental pinned on them...by, in MOST cases, a complete stranger!
This "obviously had no testimony in the first place" commentary" is a perfect example of the arrogance of mormons who REALLY believe deep in their shriveled souls that they are superior to everyone else because they are the "chosen" people.
So, non-mormon FReepers, when you are tempted to remark on how "nice" the mormons you know are, bear in mind that they are looking down on you in their hearts while wearing that false smile of friendship because you are inferior to them! YOU are a "gentile"!
I sick of trying to defend myself from the accusations of Mormons as to why I left the damnable sect!
I do have a testimony in Christ.alone.
He died to free me from the shackles of a false cult. I go about my life in praise to Him!
Amen, fellow Christian!
Bumpity bump
Much of what you need to know about how TBM mormons feel about us ex-mo’s is summed up in D13’s post.
They MUST try to destroy the reputation of ex-mo’s who speak out against the idols in SLC, it’s the only way they know how to protect them.
It doesn’t matter what I say about my time as a mormon, how I lived it, gave it practically everything I had, I will be cast as; a “fake”, one who didn’t “truly believe” or I didn’t have a “testimony” of the purported “truthfulness of the gospel”.
Typical Alinsky tactic...sick.
I hear you cc, it does start to grate on one’s nerves for various reasons.
I don’t defend myself per se, I try to refute/rebut the false witness by relating my experiences in hopes that other mormons stuck trying to figure out what to do will gain an ounce of courage to leave the guilded halls of SLC and turn to Christ.
I could care less what a lying, deceitful, tbm says about me, but I rather enjoy hearing it. I hear tell a certain adversary reacts much the same way when it can’t get it’s way.
“They obviously had no testimony in the first place. It is interesting that they feel the need to make a show of it. When someone decides to leave the Catholic Church, I dont remember them staging a mass (no pun intended) exodus and invite the media. Its just interesting.”
Entirely made up of whole cloth. You do not KNOW the hearts of those who have escaped the grip of the cult of mormonism. You are pretending (apparently) to engage in mass mind-reading about their innermost convictions, their practices and their motivations.
Is that easier than to consider that they are honest? Forthright? That they have to come to know the Biblical Christ and seen the falsehood of mormonism? Does it comfort a mormon in some way to castigate others?
Really?
Bump
They rescued me and my three daughters too Freedomlover. Here on FR. Welcome to freedom and praise the Lord !
Geez district, if you added "espouse Marxism, advocate abortion, vote for gambling, and accuse Ezra Taft Bsnson of being a false prophet" you'd be talking about the Salt Lake Sect's temple recommend holding spokesman, HARRY REID !!
Maybe you Salt Lake sect followers of the FLDS/LDS "prophets" should get YOUR OWN HOUSE in order before you come making accusations against Christians !
I mean make up your minds already ! Are you for polygamy or against it ? For gay scouts or against it ? For patriotism or against it ? For beer or against it ? For military service or against it ? FOR THE JOSEPH SMITH TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE OR AGINST IT ?
You all are neither hot not cold on any of the important topics yet throw tantrums to assert your correctness. I spit you out.
Maybe John Kerry should join Salt Lake Sect Mormonism....He seems to be JUST YOU KIND OF GUY !!
No sir, Jesus Christ reached out His Hand and you took hold and did not let go.
Praise God!
Yes, but the Inmans were being His hands and feet.
Hey!
I dissemble that remark!
Oh wait...
BUMP!
And ELSIE fills in for the talking, uh, ‘donkey’...
That’s because the fake Catholics continue to call themselves Catholic. I wish they’d stop pretending they are Catholic while they spout evil and have the nerve to say, “As a Catholic, I...” ...love abortion, dig divorce, want womyn priestesses, etc. Think of Pelousi, Biden, etc. At least the ex-Mormons leave and take the stench with them.
