Why do you think it’s radical for Catholic kids to read the bible? That’s not my experience, that’s not my family’s experience, nor my parish’s. Do you have some inside information we don’t know about?

I would rather have it taught to them first. Handing an 8 year old kid a Bible and saying, “Here read this and figure it out on your own,” isn’t really a helpful idea.

First, their parents should be catechized so that with the aid of the parish priest, teachers at their school, catechists at their parish, and most importantly the parents in the home can teach the Bible to the child through regular study, lectio divina and prayer.

In parochial school they do and it isn’t the abridged and heavily edited version either.

LOL. It's always funny to see people prefer the "Pharisee Approved Luther Subset of Scripture" to the Scripture Christ and the Apostles relied on talk about someone else not reading the Bible when such folks actually don't even accept the Bible.

My grand kids read the Bible as part of the assignment for each week for the following Sunday as well as having readings for each day as well. My children had a Bible Scripture assignment each and every day from the time they were in kindergarten until they got out of high school. And like I said, The One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church Jesus Christ Himself founded accepts the entire Bible Christ and the Apostles relied on so Catholics actually do read the Bible when they study Scripture instead of only reading what their Lord and Master Luther said they should read.

Sincere Catholics everywhere refer to their Missal everyday and study of Scriptures referenced in the Mass readings for the day.

I understand, though, because CINOs who are now attending the Church of Snakes & Shakes or some other "church" are often people who were baptised by their parents as Catholic and that's it. They were never Catholic in any real sense of the word and they're more than happy to reinforce the sterotypes that make their fellow Snakers and Shakers happy.

I’m Catholic and your post made me LOL because it’s so true. I finally read the entire New Testament as an adult because I was taking a college course on the history of the Bible. I never read a page of it during all my years in Catechism class.

Other than my Lutheran husband, I may be the only one in my large Catholic family who has read it.

Have you ever been to a Catholic Mass? It has a huge percentage of the Bible in it. Not just in the three readings each week. Protestants have told me protestant services have a much smaller percentage of their services from the Bible. Maybe someone isn’t telling you the truth about Catholics.
