OREM Striving for perfection may be driving some female members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to depression, one researcher says.
Utah Valley University professor Kris Doty looked at depression among LDS women, finding that "toxic perfectionism" was one major factor of depression reported by the group. The other four factors, Doty found, were genetics, history of abuse, family relationships and feeling judged by others.
Over a one-year period, Doty and her colleagues looked at clinically diagnosed depressed women who identified as LDS. Seven of the women were using multiple medications to treat their depression, 19 were on only one medication and 10 had participated in therapy. Women in the study said the church's teachings about perfection led to painful misinterpretations wherein many women believed they could not make mistakes. This belief, Doty said, caused them to "become hyper-competitive and anxious."
At a symposium on the topic Thursday, study participants said church leaders were reminding women especially mothers that they are not required to be perfect.
Been to Santa Scala. That’s separate to the topic. What’s wrong with striving for perfection? If they want to — we can criticise what they consider as perfection, but the striving for a definition of perfection is good — that is what we Christians should also be doing — striving hard to follow our image of perfection: Jesus Christ, 100% man and 100% God, of one being with the Father and the Holy Spirit, Triune Godhead.
Maybe they could just not worry about it. Herein lies the problem. You view women as victims. I don’t. A woman can easily say “If you want the bathroom cleaned, clean it”. The Mormon church won’t kick her out. Shoot, they seem to do anything to keep people.
These women set the bar for themselves. The church can ask them to dress up in prairie dresses everyday but they don’t have to do it. In the late 18th century, a whole ton of women directly disobeyed the church by staying in polygamy. They didn’t have a problem opposing the church.
The reason the women did everything is because they were too lazy to ask someone else to do it. I vacuumed the house yesterday and you don’t hear me bitching about my oppression. Freeper, please.
You seem so positive...
THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS SECTION 132
5157, Emma Smith is counseled (commanded) to be faithful and true; 5866, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.
51 Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to aprove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.
52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, areceive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God.
53 For I am the Lord thy God, and ye shall obey my voice; and I give unto my servant Joseph that he shall be made ruler over many things; for he hath been afaithful over a few things, and from henceforth I will strengthen him.
55 But if she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an ahundredfold in this world, of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, houses and lands, wives and children, and crowns of beternal lives in the eternal worlds.

NoW you've just dissed St. Paul.
And it was right in my reply.
Now then: Was BY a madman for saying what he said about MORMONs being DAMNED or not?
(I hope this is DIRECT enough...)
Well; the jury has been looking for some in this thread; but all they have seen is scripture spouting and they KNOW that Satan can do that...
That's what this thread is about.
The church doesnt make them feel that way.
You seem so positive...
Its called,
Is the Pope facing International Criminal Prosecution?
Oh?
Just what YEARS between 1700 and 1799 are being referenced?
“Maybe they could just not worry about it. Herein lies the problem. You view women as victims. I dont.”
I do not view these women as victims. I view them as victimized by the heresy of mormonism, which puts into motion all the judgement and condemnation these women must emotionally deal with.
“A woman can easily say If you want the bathroom cleaned, clean it. The Mormon church wont kick her out. Shoot, they seem to do anything to keep people.”
No, they won’t kick her out. She’s welcome to stay as an example of a woman who isn’t “godly”, who can’t “walk the walk”.
“These women set the bar for themselves.”
I don’t think you are right on this one AP.
“The church can ask them to dress up in prairie dresses everyday but they dont have to do it. In the late 18th century, a whole ton of women directly disobeyed the church by staying in polygamy. They didnt have a problem opposing the church.”
Well, I suppose they could have left their polygamous families, their husband and had their children be fatherless...
“The reason the women did everything is because they were too lazy to ask someone else to do it.”
There you go with the condemnation and judgement again.
“I vacuumed the house yesterday and you dont hear me bitching about my oppression. Freeper, please.”
Let me check to see if there are Medals of Merit for Mormonic God-Like Men that I can award you Appy! I’ll get back to you when I find one...

"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,
and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.
Brigham Young - JoD 3:266 (July 14, 1855)
MORMONs: get ready for the HEAT!!
“Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
You are just useful as a tool to once again tell SLC Mormons that they are HELLBOUND for not following what their 'god' continually tells them to do in their precious scripture: D&C 132:58-66

My decision is in.
Apparently our FR Mormons have decided to INGNORE the warning given by that great PROPHET - Brigham Young.
