That’s a lot to read, and I didn’t make it all the way through. Is the basic contention that the book of Revelations has already passed as it was written for a conflict prior to 100AD?

Gee whiz, I dunno' but I'm working on it. First, the interesting discovery of Indian DNA in Scottish natives, the arrival of St. Gildas from beyond the Wall (in Scotland) about 500 AD, and the insertion of what are clearly the doctrines of Ahemsa (total pacifism) into Christian tradition and doctrine at that time ~ every sermon the guy left behind is telling people to quit warring on each other and just surrender ~ wild stuff ~ to be read later!

Before that Christianity was a tad more vigorous and disposing of heretics was done up front with fire and the sword!

Soon as I figure that one out, I'll be moving back to the 200s ~ which gets me a lot closer eh~!

Good post; but a rather long read. It’s nice if you can shoot your wad in about 1,000 words. If it’s that good, I’ll buy the book.

Too many people spend too much time trying to “prove” the first chapters of Genesis.

Too many people spend too much time trying to prove the last book of bible, Revelation (Apocalypse).

Too many people spend too much time ignoring what is between these two, and THAT is the important part!

Recall how Jesus was put to death by Pontius Pilate and the Romans. But, this was also due to the provocation of fellow Jews against Jesus

The Sanhedrin, the Jewish supreme court, accused him and tried Him, declined mercy be extended to Him, and convinced Pilate to crucify Him despite Pilate's inclination to release Him. They also accepted the blame even on their children. What "provocation"?

Great post. There are imminence passages in the beginning, middle, and end of Revelation. Rev 1:1 says the book is about events that MUST (not might) shortly take place. Rev 1:11 says that John was in the Tribulation when he was writing. There can be no doubt that the Great City is none other than Jerusalem. When you point these things out to Christians their eyes glaze over like a deer in headlights.

I think you will find there are 2 major views and 2 or 3 minor ones.

Major view #1 - Historical.

Major view #2 - Futurist.

And the minor views - Preterist, Traditional, and Spiritual.

The author also missed several points that place Revelation in the earlier time frame.

1)The preface says it was written to the 7 Churches in Asia minor, that they know what was coming soon. That pretty much leaves us in 2012 out.
2)John was imprisoned on Patmos twice. First by Nero, the second by Domitian.
3)When John was caught up in the vision, and the angel told him to go measure the Temple, it was the Temple that existed prior to AD70.
4)The 2 witnesses are long gone.

There are numerous more, but these 4 are more than enough to falsify the Futurist view. Some of the other minor views have plausable arguments.

After reading, "Before Jerusalem Fell" by Kenneth L Gentry, I don't see how people can look at all the facts and still believe that the book of Revelation was written any later than the sixties during the rule of Nero. There are several other good books that make the same case but as I recall they aren't quite as thourough.
