I define a cult as an organization that asserts authority over thought and choice, and will not let one leave in peace.
Mormonism is definitely a cult, but I do not know that Swedenborgianism fits this description. I do not believe the tenets of swedenborgianism to be the word of God, but they are not a cult to my knowledge, especially when compared to mormonism.
Mat 7:13 KJV - Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Mat 7:14 KJV - Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Mat 7:15 KJV - Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
Mat 7:21 KJV - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 KJV - Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 KJV - And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The THX1138 march continues
Somehow Id never heard it before.
To be honest, I had not seen the link or info before either, coming across it when searching for the first lines;
I had forgotten the name of the song, lol. But it came to mind when pondering SENTINEL's testimony, so searching for the song, I rather stumbled upon that page.
I miss those sort of hymns at times, hokey as they may be to some (even to myself upon occasion).
Another characteristic of a cult is looking to extra-Biblical revelation and putting it on par with or above Scripture, and measuring Scripture by that instead of the other way around.
Or claiming that there are more paths to God than Jesus, the one of the Bible.
Its a fine line, so how about “heretics” of a feather.
Previously didn't you tell us you were not seeking followers?
Then give us "spiritual writings" claiming angels told one that trinitarians will be excluded from heaven for reason of trinitarian thought crime, and otherwise have specifically mentioned that many here [in disagreement with your views I'll assume] would find a cozy spot in hell, to talk amongst themselves? All while also tossing off the charge that some here had made themselves their own pope?
You must excuse me, sir, for that particular tune which you have played, those notes which you have strummed throughout this thread, beginning from your first post to me here (an unasked for preachy ministerial, sending me to a link to sign up for more of the same) the opening bars of the melody as it were, did not, and still does not, entice me to dance. The sour notes, coming after frowns were noticed among the audience after the first couple of bars were 'played', fairly ruin the overall effort further.
Random passage finger plunking into scripture [Luke 7:31] such as you offered, perhaps is safest applied first to ones own self, letting that two-edged sword fall on one's own self, cleaving even to the bone, before it be righteously wielded in the direction of others.
I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
- - - -
That’s from “Victory in Jesus”, I have a new version of that hymn that I just love.
I've been away for awhile, hence the late reply.
I asked a very simple but sincere question concerning something that I had heard, I wondered if someone could or would verify that Mormon women go to Heaven if their husbands call them there by their secret name.I received several replies from presumably, non Mormons and one lengthy reply from Saundra Duffy.
The non Mormons gave concise answers to my question while Saundra gave the following, addressing a mish-mash of things, none of which had anything at all to do with my question, here it is repeated in its entirety:
Im a Mormon woman and I havent a clue on earth what the anti Mormons/anti MormonISM folk on this site are talking about. Like Catholics, women do not hold the Priesthood in our Church. I have no desire to hold the Priesthood - too much work and responsibility. I have enough to do to work and fulfill my callings. By the way, there is no paid clergy in my Church.
My son bought one of their books that claimed Mormons are cultists. You can buy one, too, and hundreds of anti Mormon/anti MormonISM literature, etc. But the fact remains that Jesus died for Mormons, too. My son sees by my life that I am not a member of a cult. In fact, the very idea makes me laugh.
If you want to be a Priest, you can join the Anglican or Episcopalian Church. You can even be a gay or lesbian clergy in other churches. Whatever. Makes no difference to me. Remember, we Mormons stood side-by-side with Evangelicals and Catholics and Jews to protest abortion and gay marriage. It kind of hurt a little after we helped pass Prop 8 in CA when some of the other so-called Christians turned on us.
This morning in my Ward, a newly married couple gave talks. We take turns and no one gets paid. No passing of the plate! We tithe, yes, and I have no idea why that makes some people so darn mad; they see red!
We love our Savior Jesus Christ. He suffered and died for us all.
I have no idea why the anti Mormons on this site invest so much time and effort in trashing my Church. Oh, yes, I do; many of them depend on anti Mormon business - books, tapes, DVDs, speaking engagements, etc., to make their living.
Since none of that "victim" screed had anything to do with my question, I saw no need to respond.
I've heard of the infamous "MormonDude", I believe he's the one who is older than my grandpa and grandpa is older than dirt itself.
Yeah thats the one...
;)
In order for a mormon woman to go to mormon heaven they must be called by their husbands.
That is the primary reason in celestial polygamy, it covers non married mormon women, otherwise they would never make it to heaven.
All a husband has to do is call her unworthy, and tell her he wont call her name and she will lock step to his desires (whatever they maybe).
I have a cousin who was called unworthy, then taken to the bishop who called her unworthy - it did not end well, as they both told all her friends, family and co-workers that she was unworthy and she was a temple worker (the inner circle so to speak).
Needless to say she was devastated and driven into a deep depression (because she was shunned), as I said it did not end well for her.
Yes, being called by the husband is a big deal, which is why some times mormon wives are referred to stepford wives.
Suicide, I presume?
Maybe; but it WOULD definitely put to the lie that changes supposedly made by men BEFORE JS came along were NOT of GOD!
A bullet, her kids found her.
Pesky stuff - writings...
Of course!!
Them Flds people actually FOLLOW MORMON 'scripture!
It shows the WORLD what a sham SLCism is!
58 Now, as touching the law of the apriesthood, there are many things pertaining thereunto.
59 Verily, if a man be called of my Father, as was aAaron, by mine own voice, and by the voice of him that bsent me, and I have endowed him with the ckeys of the power of this priesthood, if he do anything in my name, and according to my law and by my word, he will not commit dsin, and I will justify him.
60 Let no one, therefore, set on my servant Joseph; for I will justify him; for he shall do the sacrifice which I require at his hands for his transgressions, saith the Lord your God.
61 And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthoodif any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse aanother, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.
62 And if he have aten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.
63 But if one or either of the ten virgins, after she is espoused, shall be with another man, she has committed adultery, and shall be destroyed; for they are given unto him to amultiply and replenish the earth, according to my commandment, and to fulfil the promise which was given by my Father before the foundation of the world, and for their exaltation in the eternal worlds, that they may bear the souls of men; for herein is the work of my Father continued, that he may be bglorified.
64 And again, verily, verily, I say unto you, if any man have a wife, who holds the keys of this power, and he teaches unto her the law of my priesthood, as pertaining to these things, then shall she believe and administer unto him, or she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord your God; for I will destroy her; for I will magnify my name upon all those who receive and abide in my law.
65 Therefore, it shall be lawful in me, if she receive not this law, for him to receive all things whatsoever I, the Lord his God, will give unto him, because she did not believe and administer unto him according to my word; and she then becomes the transgressor; and he is exempt from the law of Sarah, who administered unto Abraham according to the law when I commanded Abraham to take aHagar to wife.
66 And now, as pertaining to this law, verily, verily, I say unto you, I will reveal more unto you, hereafter; therefore, let this suffice for the present. Behold, I am Alpha and Omega. Amen.
