...Romney keeps his focus simple: fix the economy. But others are fixated on something else: his faith.
SNIP
Some call it a cult...
Yet Mormons call themselves Christians, which raises eyebrows, especially within evangelical circles.
Shawn McCraney is a former Mormon who now hosts a show called, 'Heart of the Matter," where he witnesses to Mormons in Salt Lake City.
"...I didn't know the Lord and that led me to an internal angst."
"What happened was I came to realize that there was nothing I could do to get myself right before God -- where with Mormonism...it's you have to do it," he explained. "He gives you the opportunity, but it's up to you to perform, and I couldn't perform."
...any controversy over a Mormon president may...center on...whether Romney would put loyalty to the Mormon Church ahead of anything else.
Former Mormon and author Michael Moody has written the book, Mitt, Set Our People Free...
"When I was a little boy, the Mormon prophet was a more important man than the president of the United States," Moody told CBN News.
"Mitt Romney has knelt in the Mormon temples," he noted. "He has taken an oath of consecration. He has taken an oath of sacrifice. He has said that he will sacrifice everything that he is, and give all of his talents, and everything that he has and is to the Mormon Church."
...Moody said a Romney victory would be a big deal for the Mormon Church.
"If Mitt Romney gets in the White House, it's going to be a sign to all of the Mormon people that they're on the right path, that this is the truth, and it's going to help perpetuate their missionary program. It's going to put the Mormon Church in a more powerful position..."

Have you read the Constitution??? If so I would like to know what part that says only a Christian can be President??I think it's after the part that says I can't apply any criteria I want to a potential candidate to see if I wish to vote for them.

Are we not told to pray for our leaders? Are we not told to...
2 John 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.
Why should we then think it permissible to go out and elect him as the Leader of the Free World?

Mitt Romney is as high in the Mormon cooperation as one can go without being one of the twelve. I didn't know he was in one of the quorums of the seventy? Or an area presidency? Or, maybe he really is just a former stake president, of which there are thousands.

Until he converts all persons that do not think as he goes, his business is to continue to harangue!Hey!!
We and our over 50,000 fellow Elders don't harass nobody!
We pound on their door to tell them Christianity is corrupt and we MORMONs have the solution for that problem.
If they don't like our message; they can go to... uh, the church down the street.

The truth about Mormonism needs to be revealed whether the supporters of Romney are troubled by it or not.Where do you want me to start??
Here is MORMONism's own creed:
Articles of Faith
The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor,
in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.
They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.
THE ARTICLES OF FAITH OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535541
- We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
- We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
- We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
- We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
- We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
- We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
- We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
- We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
- We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
- We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
- We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
- We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of PaulWe believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

I bet theyll be more kind than Christians are to them. You might want to ask some Ute indians about this...
The gruesome be headings of some 40 Ute corpses in 1850, heads stacked in boxes,
and hung by their long hair from the eves of buildings at Fort Utah,
has long been ignored, You didnt see the Indians beheading the Mormons.

That verse has nothing whatsoever to do with leaders of a country. It is speaking about those that minister the Gospel. You know from my previous participation in Mormon doctrinal threads that youn and I are in complete agreement. Religion and politics are 2 completely separate animals.

Colon has been hi-jacking the religion forum Oh?
I saw the word MORMON in the title: is that NOT a 'religion'?
I saw the word PRESIDENT in the title as well.
Is that an indication that the two just MIGHT be linked together in this thread?
No no seems to mind when Obama's RELIGION is used against him; yet howls of NO FAIR!! abound when Mitt gets the same attention.
Strange dichotomy seen here.

Mormonism plan of salvation:
"He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be."
- Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321
"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god..."
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88
"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]"
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)
There is "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190
"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgressionif you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again."
- Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155
"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,"
- Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670
They succeeded in killing Joseph, but he had finished his work.
He was a servant of God, and gave us the Book of Mormon.
He said the Bible was right in the main, but, through the translators and others, many precious portions were suppressed, and several other portions were wrongly translated; and now his testimony is in force, for he has sealed it with his blood.
As I have frequently told them, no man in this dispensation will enter the courts of heaven, without the approbation of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jun.
Who has made this so?
Have I?
Have this people?
Have the world?
No; but the Lord Jehovah has decreed it.
If I ever pass into the heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of the Prophet Joseph.
If you ever pass through the gates into the Holy City, you will do so upon his certificate that you are worthy to pass.
Can you pass without his inspection?
No; neither can any person in this dispensation, which is the dispensation of the fulness of times.
In this generation, and in all the generations that are to come, everyone will have to undergo the scrutiny of this Prophet.
They say that they killed Joseph, and they will yet come with their hats under their arms and bend to him; but what good will it do them, unless they repent?
They can come in a certain way and find favor, but will they?

Be careful with such posts like this now...ya might have a poster -- like AnotherUnixGeek -- properly scold you for saying the above
Wow, I appear to have set you off on a series of rants. I didn't "scold" anyone - in fact, if I'm not mistaken it's you who has embarked on a noisy campaign of scolding. I pointed out the fact that the presidency isn't a religious post. I'll point it out again - the responsibilities and powers of the president are explained quite clearly in the US Constitution, and they are not up for debate. And since the issue of Jeremiah Wright came up, let's spare a moment to recollect that the controversy over Obama's attendance at Wright's church stemmed from the fact that Obama's preacher is a raving racist, not from his views on religious matters.
I think Romney would be a bad president because he has a long, established record as a liberal - though he couldn't possibly be as bad as Obama has been. I probably will not vote for him because I'm sick of voting for the less-bad choice instead of a candidate I can respect (though I do respect Paul Ryan). I don't care if Romney wears magic underwear or believes that the Garden of Eden was somewhere in Missouri or whatever, as long as he realizes those beliefs have nothing to do with his job and is as committed to fulfilling his oath of office as our best presidents have been. If you have some evidence that this is not the case, let's hear it.

All of you MORMONs of the SLC stripe need to read D&C 132 and then ask yourselves just WHY you do NOT follow what you GOD has clearly commanded you to do their?
Ask yourselves just WHY the Leaders high above Temple Square EXCOMMUNICATE people who DARE to follow what D&C 132 says.
