Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints often refer to Jesus Christ as their elder brother. This expression of endearment appears in sermons, lessons, and publications...The title is used enough that some might think that elder brother is one of the many titles attributed to Christ in the scriptures, but nowhere do the scriptures use this expression in reference to Jesus. Nor can the idea that Jesus is our elder brother be ascribed with certitude to the teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith...
Beginning in 1844 we find the first instances in which the Church leaders use the phrase elder brother...to refer to Christ. These six recordings were all recorded contemporaneously. June 22, 1844, Orson Pratt...
The concept that Christ is the elder brother...does not appear to have been actually articulated and recorded until 1871 by Orson Pratt:
Now, who is Jesus? He is only our brother, but happens to be the firstborn...how is he the firstborn? Because he is the eldest--the first one born of the whole family of spirits and therefore is our elder brother.
...It is apparently Orson Pratt, then, who should be credited with the first attempt to...use the title elder brother as applied to Jesus. It was Orson Pratt who first recorded the concept that Jesus is "our Brother" shortly before the death of Joseph Smith, and Orson Pratt who first articulated that Jesus is all humankind's elder brother in the spirit...
Section 93, an 1833 revelation to Joseph Smith, allows implicitly the idea of brotherhood with Jesus: since human spirits are eternal, these spirits were with God in the beginning just as Jesus was.

To those not familiar with the plan of salvation, hearing Jesus Christ called an elder brother might be misunderstood as a diminution of Christ's high status...

Pretending this is all about "Religion" shows what dishonest fakes and phonies you all are.
“If freedom of religion exists, it must exist for the Romney family as well.
........................
And it must exist for those who oppose the cultic religion of Mitt - mormonism.
Of course, I don’t see where Mitt has had his religious freedom curtailed anywhere...
“Religion is NOT “DISCUSSED” here. Anti-Mormonism is discussed here”
Mormonism is a cultic religion. It is being discussed in a negative way - comparing it to the truth of Christianity, which is a true religion. They are being contrasted to demonstrate the falsehood of cultic mormonism.
Perhaps those who object to this discussion so strenuously, do so because they are wearing undergarments that are too tight...

I reject Mormon doctrine, but the above claim is just absurd. See Romans 8:29, Hebrews 2:11-12, 17.
Deb - drop the shovel so you don't dig your self in any deeper. In the RF - TODAY some of the discussions are on:
Catholic Bishop Matthew Clark
Abortion clinic encouraging abortion on sunday
Postcard from Laodicea
Commentary on Romans
Catholic word of the day
Plus many others. Religion is discussed here.
Now perhaps you feign your anger - afterall, equivalent 'anti-baptistism'(sic) is commonly discussed in RF.
Then again, citing something from BYU Studies now qualifies as "anti-Mormonism"? My, they are against themselves now.
If you don't like the religious discussions that take place here, then don't come to the RF - easy enough.
If you want to support Romney - knock yourself out - The news forum would enjoy your pro-Romney views and would enjoy the ensuing fireworks.
But spare us your pious foot stomping that openly displays you to be what you claim we are all 'pretending' to be.
Speak for yourself, half-wit. I don’t wear underpants.
Not even a good try.
If I did anything with "the shovel", you'd be feelin' it. But it is fun to toss the occasional stink bomb into this vat snakes and watch you all slither around and hiss.
Sloth, read the article closer and go to my post #59. Do you believe you are materially the same as Jesus and created by a common parent? That you are ontologically the same as Jesus? That is the current mormon definition of the use of "Jesus is our brother" Sloth.
Were you to read the article, you will see it is stating mormon doctrine. It is that context in which Colofornian posted the exerpt.
Rom 8:29 uses 'brethern' in context of those saved. Similar in Hebrews in addition to association by Jesus in the flesh with mankind. Neither passage denotes we were birthed in heaven by some heavenly mother and Jesus is just the oldest sibling of the bunch.
Oh dear...
You modern progressive girls...
BLUSH
A young lady wouldnt have admitted to that lack in my day, I’m sure...

1. I do wear undies (bikini) and
2. You're obviously no "Nana".
The only one I see slithering and hissing is you Deb - now why would that be? Do you have something different than what the posted article states (and from BYU!). Do you have superior knowledge of what true mormon doctrine is in this regard?
No, absence of substance on your part is only substituted by a lame and petty bleating by a mittbot. Does it bother you that mormon doctrines are compared and contrasted to Christianity that much Deb? *Hint* that is by definition DISCUSSION.
But then one can’t expect stink bomb throwers to understand those things, because you have nothing else to stand upon.
That claim was made by a Mormon...peer reviewed by byu theological profs..in addition to reading 'zilla's #59 post...see my responses to campion re romans 8...posts #26 and #36...
LOOK! OVER THERE!
You are correct, mormonism has not been discuss for nearly a decade it actually has been discussed for a decade.
First post that I found using the term mormonism:
Sun Sep 1 15:43:47 2002
First post that I found using the term mormon:
Sat Apr 6 07:40:42 2002
And it is very possible that archives are only kept ten years.
So honey, this information is provided for your edification.........see mormonism has been talked about BEFORE Romney was even a candidate the first time.
tada!
“Speak for yourself, half-wit. I dont wear underpants.”
1. Didn’t say you.
2. Too much information.
“But it is fun to toss the occasional stink bomb into this vat snakes and watch you all slither around and hiss. “
That would make you a hissing, troll disruptor on the religion forum - naughty Deb! Against the rules.
“I think one man is as good as another as long as he’s honest and decent and not a n****r or a chinaman.”
