James Carville: Romney’s Mormon religion still a problem [Mitt silent on bishop, gov roles]
Daily Caller.com ^ | July 6, 2012 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 07/08/2012 8:01:01 AM PDT by Colofornian

n an appearance on WWL radio in New Orleans earlier this week, James Carville surveyed the Romney campaign and said the presumptive GOP nominee still hasn’t overcome the issue of his Mormon religion.

According to Carville, who has a forthcoming book called “It’s the Middle Class, Stupid,” Romney’s reluctance to talk openly about that is keeping him from dominating the campaign against President Barack Obama.

“One of the problems that Romney has honestly is — the thing against him the most is his religion,” Carville said. “And he doesn’t understand the reasons. He doesn’t talk about that. He was a bishop in his church. And he doesn’t talk about the one public office that he held much and that was being the governor of Massachusetts. So, he talks about Bain, but that’s become sort of a big issue in the campaign. He’s got to, you know — if you look at the numbers, Romney should win this campaign.”

“So, I think Romney is going to come out — I think they’re going to recalibrate their strategy a little bit,” he said. “I think they’re going to have to. And he just going to have to be more aggressive talking about some of the things he has done and give people a window into as who he is.”

The best thing for Romney to do, Carville said, would be to highlight his ability to “fix things.”

“I would say, look people are looking for someone that can fix things,” Carville said. “And you got to tell them Romney is that guy. You know, you accomplished that with the Olympics. You actually accomplished that when you were governor of Massachusetts. And you actually accomplished that when you ran Bain.”

And I think the self appointed queen of the Inmans should stop trying to find the button.

It would appear that you’re the one who has ‘lost it’. The thread goes in the direction you steered it for more than a hundred political attack posts, with ZERO about the ISM until Elsie redirects the focus momentarily... [MHGinTN]

I think you should put the moonshine jug down, MHG. [GF]

In post #1, yes it was "steered" in a certain direction...And @ the beginning of post #2, I mentioned the socio-political aspect of Mitt and his culture...where I said:

In the first linked article above, Mormon Neal Chandler highlights how in the 19th century...
* Mormons forced communism upon its people -- and then not (United Order)
* Adhered to theocracies under its first two "prophets" -- and then slowly drew back
* Said polygamy was a condition of the highest degree of glory -- and then not

There it is. Black and white, M.H. Since when is a "theocracy" NOT tethered to the "ISM"...???
Since when is the Doctrine & Covenants "revelation" given to "prophet" Joseph Smith as an "everlasting" order NOT tethered to the "ISM"??? (Doesn't that reveal a false prophesy? ... Given that Mormons have withdrawn the "everlasting United Order?" Since when are false prophesies not part and parcel of the "ISM?" M.H.???)

Since when are "degrees of glory" assigned by Joseph Smith in D&C 76 NOT supposedly part and parcel of the ISM???

Did you not read post #2 fully? Why do you STILL claim -- twice now -- that there were ZERO posts about the "ISM"???

Why do you insult our combined intelligences as supposedly being less than primary grades?

Furthermore, M.H., I said in post #2...and I'll carefully highlight the "ISM" portion so you can more readily spot it this go-round: The answer, says this ex-Mormon in the book referenced above is: (From the article): The book reveals a value system that ultimately has no absolutes, other than the need to conform to deep-seated, highly-controlling authoritarianism that pervades LDS culture. That culture emphasizes a Mormon tradition known as "eternal progression" — undoctrinal spiritual evolution in which even God is changing. It also emphasizes the notion that the latest words of governing church leaders trump the Word of God found in the scriptures (including LDS scripture).

Is the "ISM" there as plain as day, M.H.???? No? Will you retract your false accusations toward Elz now?

Oh, was that still not enough for you, M.H.??? I also said, in post #2...which I will also highlight for your reading prowess: IOW, EVERYTHING in MormonISM -- from its theology to its social practices -- is up for potential change at the whim of the Mormon god. Bottom-line: There is no bottom-line in MormonISM! There is no bedrock doctrine that cannot be replaced! There isn't even an Ultimate god in MormonISM...Nobody knows who the gods are that were part of the council which appointed the god of this world -- a former man, say Mormons.

There ya go, M.H. Do you see why now I asked if you had "totally lost it???"

* I THRICE used the word "MormonISM" in post #2...
* I mentioned its "theology."
* I used the word "doctrine."
* I mentioned a whim-oriented Mormon "god"
* I pointed out this was some lower-level god -- not an "Ultimate" God
* I mentioned a "council of gods"

And that was after I referenced a "changing" Mormon god...Lds "scriptures"...and "eternal progression"...ALL part of the ISM!!!!

And yet you were so high and mighty in your prickliness that you couldn't bothered to be corrected.

I’ve read the entire thread, all of it. After your entry posts, you finally rejoined the thread to chastise posters and then go all out in ploitcal mode for a few. You sling that word hypocrisy around a lot. Do you have mirrors in your home?

I’ve read the entire thread, all of it. [MHGinTN]

ALL: This is what we call a poster who is refusing to pay attention to reality:

* "The thread goes in the direction you steered it for more than a hundred political attack posts, with ZERO about the ISM until Elsie redirects the focus momentarily..." (MHGinTN, post #196)

* "Your posts, coming 120 posts on, are the FIRST hint of any discussion of Romney’s religion, yet this thread was posted as a ‘religion forum’ thread." [MHGinTN, post #144)

* "...the first 100 plus posts are SOLELY attack politics with nothing to do with the religion forum..." [MHGinTN, post #195)

This is yet a third attempt to bring reality to a poster...in Post #2 I discussed about a dozen "ISM" imbedded concepts.

And I even used the word "MormonISM" three times...: "There is no bottom-line in MormonISM! There is no bedrock doctrine that cannot be replaced! There isn't even an Ultimate god in MormonISM...Nobody knows who the gods are that were part of the council which appointed the god of this world -- a former man, say Mormons."

But, per M.H. there were supposedly
..."ZERO" posts about the "ISM"
...-- there wasn't even a "FIRST hint of any discussion of Romney's religion" until Elsie posted...
...and there was "nothing to do with the religion forum" ANY of those "first 100 plus posts."

And now, that I've had to painfully post the obvious correction (again)...his pride still won't let him be corrected and retract his statement/accusation toward Elsie. Right now, M.H., your accusation of him is STILL on the thread table. When will you withdraw that falsehood? Or are your false statements beyond correction?

Sorry...but concepts like "ZERO," "First," and "nothing" aren't up for your silly redefinition attempts.

LOL ... dig something out after post #2 until about a hundred more posts, then you might have some creds. Are you trying for the title in Inman squares, or just a self-appointed ... aw, never mind. You’re doing too good a job of outing yourself. Have nice day

Who do you choose: the Mormon or the Socialist?

No, actually it's a choice between a Socialist(Obama) and a lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal(Mitt Romney).

Have a super week, M.H.

[No matter how much we may disagree on certain issues, I still love you in Christ...and please don't mistake my "tough love" -- a love that "rejoices in the truth" (1 Cor. 13:6) -- for anything else]

There are still many, many things which are odious about him and his record, but this would be enough to bring me over. Anyway he won’t do it. I don’t think he has ever admitted error.

Not for me.

IN addition to what you listed as your prerequisites, I'd add the following:

1. Admit that he unconstitutionally implemented Gay Marriage in MA and he lied about it and repent of that action and behavior.
2. Admit and repent of implementing his own Assault Weapons ban.

So if you or anyone else can get him to do the combination of what you require and what I require, I'll be the most voiciferous supporter of Mitt Romney you've ever seen.

I understand. I set the merest de minimus standard for basic humanity. Just don’t be culture of death.

It is also a litmus test (yes, I know the result already) for the “hold his feet to the fire” fantasists.

No, it's not that. I've seen so many good people either die or suffer terribly while others who are just rotten to the core prosper and do well. I see evil triumph while the good suffer. I just gets to be too much after a while.

Remember Job in the Old Testament.

He lost everything, including his family, and yet he still loved and praised God!

Hang in there buddy!

There is a plan, God's plan, we may not understand it, it may not make sense, but it is meant for good for all of us.

FRiend, despite what this confused person posted, I have not made any scurrilous accusation toward you on this thread. ... I seem to remember Delphi User posting the same sort of ‘blessing’ technique as was used here, though. Please, FRiend, don’t be misguided by a mistaken accusation.

Not really; as I merely pointed it out...

It’s only bigotry if they don’t do communion the right way ~ we’ve passed way beyond being overly concerned with traditional baptism ~ of course!

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said, "Stop! Don't do it!"
"Why shouldn't I?" he said.

I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"
He said, "Like what?"

I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?"
He said, "Religious."

I said, "Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?"
He said, "Christian."

I said, "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?"
He said, "Protestant."

I said, "Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?"
He said, "Baptist!"

I said,"Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of GOD or Baptist Church of the Lord?"
He said, "Baptist Church of GOD!"

I said, "Me too! Are you Original Baptist Church of GOD, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of GOD?"
He said,"Reformed Baptist Church of GOD!"

I said, "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of GOD, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of GOD, reformation of 1915?"
He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of GOD, reformation of 1915!"

I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off.
