James Carville: Romney’s Mormon religion still a problem [Mitt silent on bishop, gov roles]
Daily Caller.com ^ | July 6, 2012 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 07/08/2012 8:01:01 AM PDT by Colofornian

n an appearance on WWL radio in New Orleans earlier this week, James Carville surveyed the Romney campaign and said the presumptive GOP nominee still hasn’t overcome the issue of his Mormon religion.

According to Carville, who has a forthcoming book called “It’s the Middle Class, Stupid,” Romney’s reluctance to talk openly about that is keeping him from dominating the campaign against President Barack Obama.

“One of the problems that Romney has honestly is — the thing against him the most is his religion,” Carville said. “And he doesn’t understand the reasons. He doesn’t talk about that. He was a bishop in his church. And he doesn’t talk about the one public office that he held much and that was being the governor of Massachusetts. So, he talks about Bain, but that’s become sort of a big issue in the campaign. He’s got to, you know — if you look at the numbers, Romney should win this campaign.”

“So, I think Romney is going to come out — I think they’re going to recalibrate their strategy a little bit,” he said. “I think they’re going to have to. And he just going to have to be more aggressive talking about some of the things he has done and give people a window into as who he is.”

The best thing for Romney to do, Carville said, would be to highlight his ability to “fix things.”

“I would say, look people are looking for someone that can fix things,” Carville said. “And you got to tell them Romney is that guy. You know, you accomplished that with the Olympics. You actually accomplished that when you were governor of Massachusetts. And you actually accomplished that when you ran Bain.”

It’s only bigotry if they don’t do communion the right way ~ we’ve passed way beyond being overly concerned with traditional baptism ~ of course!

Go on the record and claim right now that you never spoke negatively of either Romney or Romney’s Mormonism in a religion thread these past years going back to 2007.

Landon lost.
Willkie lost.
Dewey lost.
Dewey lost again.
Nixon lost.
Goldwater lost.
Ford lost.
Dole lost.
McCain lost.
Their brand is not doing as well as random chance!

Excellent point!!!!

It's time to start viewing them as a minority party seeking to subvert the Republican party. Hold their feet to the fire on credentials ~ first NO RINOS ~ and that's going to be TWO DEFINITIONS.... We also need to do a one-time purge of the Republican National Committee excluding former Democrat party campaigners.

Double Amen!!!!

Romney donated to a Democrat!

Romney also appointed 27 of 36 judges who didn't even have an (R) by their name to claim official RINO status!!!!!

I have a bigger problem with Obamas communistic principles.

And you claim that RomneyCare isn't socialism why???

Upon what so-called "conservative principles" do you operate upon?

I'm with you in declining to vote for Romney.

I urge you -- please vote at the top of the ticket. Register your franchise. VOTE for a third-party candidate not because you think he'll win, but because your vote will help weaken the victory of whichever statist, Obama or Romney, does win. A president who "wins" even when the majority of Americans are on record as opposing him at the ballot box -- i.e. Bill Clinton in 1992 -- is defensive and vulnerable, and is DENIED a mandate.

Your third party vote will count toware DENYING a mandate to the winner. Clinton got slammed in the mid-terms with the Republican Revolution; it probably would not have happened if he'd won with a majority or if HW had been re-elected. And Clinton was a relatively popular figure -- Obama, on the other hand, is increasingly held in contempt by Democrats who voted for him last time. Your third party vote won't favor either Obama or Romney, but it WILL count in the popular tally, and if Obama was re-elected on such a plurality that as many as two in three rejected him at the ballot box, he would be humiliated, he would be a mockery, conservatism would be empowered, and your vote would have HELPED conservatism.

I urge you please to re-think your decision not to vote at the top of the ticket. Your third party vote would work to DENY a mandate to the winner, and that would empower the conservatives you'll have voted for down-ticket when it comes to opposing that president.

A third party vote does do that, but it also tends to get Obama elected in this case. Geez....

Interesting to see the defacto Obama supporters ...

Your logic is deeply flawed.

The point being that when the winner is still under 50% he’s a metaphysical loser so he can’t pull that ‘American peeps deserve yo’ money’ crp!

Your posts, coming 120 posts on, are the FIRST hint of any discussion of Romney’s religion, yet this thread was posted as a ‘religion forum’ thread.

Are you totally losing it???...don't just look @ where the thread was posted...Read the headline...read Carville's quote again about Romney's religion...then read my comments...especially Post #2...which discussed a LOT about Romney's Mormonism!!!!

Romney isn't going to get elected anyway ~ he's running under the GOP-e brand and they haven't done well for nearly 3/4 of a century.

The idea here is to deprive Obama of 50%,.

IMHO, Romney is deliberately letting Obummer get the lead in this campaign!

If he REALLY wanted to win, he would be screaming at the top of his lungs, about EVERY SINGLE THING Obummer has done to destroy our Constitution and the citizens of our Country.

Instead, he is taking on the John Boehner stance - just stand around with a stupid grin, and let the world go by.............

Let's put it this way, there are swing states and then there's Virginia.

It's going to be so tight here that I expect both Obama and Romney to be there at my precinct to meet me and beg for my vote.

And I will tell them "Where were you when I wanted to vote for Newt in the March Primary" ~ and they will say "We were there Master ~ we were there, looking after your interests, carving out new policies you would find pleasing" and I will look them both in the eye and say "Out you faithless ministers of politics ~ I'm voting for a Good Man, and you'all can go into the bottomless pit from which none escape".

Given that the voters of California voted to screw up the primary votes, some weird deal about the top two candidates run against each other, so far no one seems to know if it applies to president. I am thinking not.
I don’t even know who’s running beyond the D and R for president.

Religious bigotry is 52,000 mormon missionaries going out into the world daily telling Christians THEIR faith is bogus and the only way to salvation is to be baptized, confirmed mormon and take part in arcane rituals in a mormon temple....IF you can "pass by Joseph Smith at the gate."

As I have frequently told them, no man in this dispensation will enter the courts of heaven, without the approbation of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jun.

Who has made this so?

Have I?

Have this people?

Have the world?

No; but the Lord Jehovah has decreed it.

If I ever pass into the heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of the Prophet Joseph.

If you ever pass through the gates into the Holy City, you will do so upon his certificate that you are worthy to pass.

Can you pass without his inspection?

No; neither can any person in this dispensation, which is the dispensation of the fulness of times.

In this generation, and in all the generations that are to come, everyone will have to undergo the scrutiny of this Prophet.

They say that they killed Joseph, and they will yet come with their hats under their arms and bend to him; but what good will it do them, unless they repent?

They can come in a certain way and find favor, but will they?

"If I ever pass into heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of Prophet Joseph"
--Brigham Young
--JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, vol. 8, p. 224

*************************************************

we have seen and felt evidence that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is both true and living. The Lord spoke to those through whom He restored the Church in the latter days. He said of them that they “might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually—

The True and Living Church

Bigotry is proclaiming to Christians that the Gospel of God was taken from the earth and "restored" through Joseph Smith.

After the Election I wonder how many of the Antis are still around.

Considering that the founder and owner of Free Republic is "one of the Antis," (just yesterday, he posted this cold, hard truth: Voting for Romney directly advances the godless/socialist/statist agenda -- Jim Robinson), I expect a lot of "antis" will remain.

The real question is, if Romney wins and proceeds to steamroll conservative opposition in Congress while building, with the support of Moderate Republicans and the GOP-e, a "bipartisan" alliance with Democrats, and then uses that power to:

-- enact his own version of nationalized health care with abortion-on-demand intact
-- nominate liberal judges
-- enact global warming cap-and-trade regulation and advocates subjecting American sovereignty to a global body ("Any carbon plan has to be worldwide in scop -- let's have a worldwise solution, not an American one." -- Mitt Romney, 2008 CPAC speech)
-- advance homosexual "rights" such as to do things like force adoption agencies to relinquish the innocents in their charge to same-sex "parents"

... the real question is, that when all the ABOers here start wailing that they meant to vote against Obama, not for Romney's progressivism ... will they have any shame at all?

I follow your posts and appreciate you teling the truth about Mormonism. I am curious about your voting intentions for November. You know a lot about Romney and what his faith is. Since you are a FReeper, I assume you know a lot about Obama as well. Who do you choose: the Mormon or the Socialist?

Let's say Obama lost in 2012. Let's say Obama then made a few "tweaks" while converting to a RINO. Claimed he had a sudden "pro-life conversion." But still left a liberal track record on most everything. Never apologized for ObamaCare, but stopped touting it.

What'd you get is essentially a Romney twin.

What would THEN be "funny" is if Obama got the (R) nomination in 2016. Of course, the Dems would run a pro-abort -- which would automatically place the Dem to the left of Obama. And the "ABO" crowd would suddenly "convert" to the ABDN crowd -- the "Anybody But (the) Dem Nom" crowd!!!!

It wouldn't matter what a retooled Obama really stood for (hey, it doesn't matter with these people for Romney now...because they vote anti-boogieman now!!!)

It wouldn't matter what a retooled Obama's track record was (hey, it doesn't matter with these people for Romney now!)

Therefore, I stand upon principle. No, I wouldn't vote for a reincarnated Hitler with an (R) by his name if he was running vs. a Democrat who was THE anti-Christ!!!

I don't vote for "evil" -- "moderate evil" ... "pure evil" ... "scaled-down evil" ... "fill-in-the-blank evil."

I'll be voting for Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party.

For those who claim that a vote for Goode won't do any good, they need to be consistent...they then need to start lecturing to the Left Coast & NY/NJ/IL/MD/DC voters that a vote for Romney won't do any good there, either!

If this is too personal, forgive me. You don’t have to answer. I am asking because I am having a difficult time deciding if I can stomach voting for Mitt just because he isn’t Obama.

There'll be enough about my life -- covered by the blood of Christ -- that God could bring up without Him having to ask me @ Judgment Day: "You knew, C, that Romney claimed to be a 'god-in-embryo' who was supposedly on his way to having the same creative powers I have...who was vying to be a competitor and rival of Me for worship, glory, adoration, and reception of prayers. Why did you elevate him with your vote? Why did you vote for an open idol? Why did you deem Romney to be your political savior? Did you not trust me?"

I'm beginning to think the primaries should be held in two or three heats. Once it's narrowed down to three candidates, have it again; once it's narrowed down to two candidates, have it again; and the winner gets the nom. If it had been done that way, Romney would have been kicked to the curb.

As it was, by the time the primaries came to my state, it was either Ron Paul or Mitt Romney.

I voted for Paul.

Where the hell were they? Why the hell have they been so silent?!

I think I can tell you why. Because in the GOP -- as we are witnessing now with the ABO mentality -- liberalism is REWARDED with VICTORY.

As long as Republicans for any reason vote for liberal Republicans, the Republican party will continue to move left. It will ONLY stop moving left when Republican voters STOP voting for liberal Republicans and risk the consequences.
