n an appearance on WWL radio in New Orleans earlier this week, James Carville surveyed the Romney campaign and said the presumptive GOP nominee still hasnt overcome the issue of his Mormon religion.
According to Carville, who has a forthcoming book called Its the Middle Class, Stupid, Romneys reluctance to talk openly about that is keeping him from dominating the campaign against President Barack Obama.
One of the problems that Romney has honestly is the thing against him the most is his religion, Carville said. And he doesnt understand the reasons. He doesnt talk about that. He was a bishop in his church. And he doesnt talk about the one public office that he held much and that was being the governor of Massachusetts. So, he talks about Bain, but thats become sort of a big issue in the campaign. Hes got to, you know if you look at the numbers, Romney should win this campaign.
So, I think Romney is going to come out I think theyre going to recalibrate their strategy a little bit, he said. I think theyre going to have to. And he just going to have to be more aggressive talking about some of the things he has done and give people a window into as who he is.
The best thing for Romney to do, Carville said, would be to highlight his ability to fix things.
I would say, look people are looking for someone that can fix things, Carville said. And you got to tell them Romney is that guy. You know, you accomplished that with the Olympics. You actually accomplished that when you were governor of Massachusetts. And you actually accomplished that when you ran Bain.

yup...
What has Romney ever done which would give you the impression that he is to be trusted?
Personally I would prefer to elect congressmen and senators with the guts to repeal Obama (i.e., impeach the tyrant).
Romney has a track record of being just as much of a tyrant as Obama (only on a limited scale).
“Religion is part of who a candidate is, so why not talk about it.”
Do you mean core beliefs might be important in a person’s makeup?
How revolutionary a concept in the post-Rove era!
Until your posts this thread was a purely attack Romney thread, and attack anyone who would admit they’re voting for him to remove Barry Dunham. Your posts, coming 120 posts on, are the FIRST hint of any discussion of Romney’s religion, yet this thread was posted as a ‘religion forum’ thread. I suspect even you might find that strange. BTW, how is the JB Weld holding out on that leaking gas tank?
Elsie said I was a religious bigot. I was responding to her. Try to keep up.
It is hard, but it is a given, and must be endured.
But yes my friend, it is damned hard and bitter to watch.
Elsie said I was a religious bigot. I was responding to her. Try to keep up.
Good point.
Heh. I’ll just give you a skip henceforth.
Pax.
HE LOST
Yup, there were already social conservatives at the time.
BTW, if you had folks working a farm at the time tell me what their positions were on PARITY for 1948 through 1960.

‘I’d like to solve the puzzle, Pat.’
The optics of the week long Romney vacation were all wrong for a prospective President of the United States.
But the optics of the week long Romney vacation were all right for a prospective Prophet of the Mormon Church.
After all, is there a more prominent Mormon in the world today than Mitt Romney? If Romney would be the richest President in American history wouldn’t he also be the richest Prophet in Mormon history?
Take a good look at the photo op of the Romney clan on the power boat. Does it look like a future god in embryo with all of his spirit children on the planet Kolob?
You Betcha!
Consider this: If Romney has to slug his way to the nomination at a brokered convention only to get clobbered by the MSM and Obama’s Chicago thugs in the fall campaign, where is the profit for the Mormon Church? There would be only loss and the threat of the Mormon Church being irretrievably broken.
Would a devout Mormon such as Mitt Romney rather be the POTUS [a ‘profane’ office of limited national jurisdiction] or Prophet [a ‘holy’ office of world-wide jurisdiction]?
Can there be a better poster child for the Mormon Church than Mitt Romney is today?
If Mitt Romney were to drop out of the POTUS race, release his delegates to vote their conscience in Tampa and assume the office of the Mormon Prophet, would the Public Relations of the Mormon Church be enhanced?
You Betcha!
Mitt Romney isn’t going to be the next POTUS.
Mitt Romney is going to be the next Mormon Prophet.
Stay Tuned.
Works for me.
I'm all for that! His loyal following could swell mormon membership numbers all the way up to about 10 million in the US...still a small minority. They would all move to Utah, Idaho and Arisona.
Interesting post. Possible, but would the present heirarchy go along? Can't imagine that.
Ok, just to humor I reread you statement.
Based on your statement of your refusal to vote for someone practicing islam, is by definition bigotry.
Personally, I don’t have a problem with that.
Going for the double, I think. Winning POTUS would secure the clerical spot too, and ANY national improvement would be pointed to as fulfillment of the Whitewashed Jackass prophecy. It would also swell the GOP ranks and the general population with the notion that credulous obedience is the American way. New serfs for the New World Order.
That is how I see it playing out, as Willard is scripted to win this. Hussein will go play in some UN sandbox instead, and the NWO torch will have been amicably passed even while the election show was running.
My point was, you are practicing religious bigotry if you even bring up the religion of a candidate.
These three issues were not of major concern to the GOP-e or to Goldwater simply because they were either not relevant to getting anyone elected, or were simply too complex to work with.
It took us until Ronald Reagan to get a comprehensive Conservative in place who could stand behind anti-communism, pro-Americanism, fiscal responsibility, and getting the Supreme Court in order so we could roll-back their tom foolishness on the very personal issue of religion.
Of course, by that time the Court was slaughtering babies, which is probably why you've forgotten about the other issues where they screwed with the schools.
By the 1980s Goldwater had gone senile and began speaking out of turn about all sorts of things.
So.
Then practice it.
Religion is part of who people are, it is their core.
It should be discussed.
If it’s bigotry, then so be it.
Technically speaking -- due to the electoral system -- people living in certain states are ALREADY "disenfranchised."
For example, if you live in WA, OR, CA, Nevada, Illinois, NY, NJ, Maryland, D.C. or some New England states, a vote for Romney won't help beat Obama in those states.
And frankly, if you live in most Western states; most Midwestern states; all Southern states (except FL)...your vote against Obama won't mean anything more...Obama stands 0% chance to win in those states.
So...if the argument would be consistent...you'd have to admit that "franchisement" ONLY exists in genuine swing states.
Do you confess that?
