Are Mitt Romney’s Mormon beliefs something we should worry about?
Charlotte City Buzz Examiner (Examiner.com) ^ | March 21, 2012 | Robert Tilford

Posted on 03/22/2012 7:53:18 AM PDT by Colofornian

Mormons are not Christians in the traditional sense. They hold queer beliefs that would shock many people. Some of these beliefs are downright racist and have some black leaders in Charlotte, N.C. very worried what could happen if Romney manages to get elected as President of the United States. Mormon literature says "dark skinned people" are from "the seed of Cain." "According to this doctrine, it is forbidden to have “interracial marriages” with black people and those that do, will be “cursed” …

Their doctrine said the Negro race is cursed as we come from “the seed of Cain."

Yet Romney has said he is proud of his Mormon faith. "I am very proud of my faith and the faith of my fathers," Romney said. "Well, it's true and I love my faith. And I will… distance myself in any way from my faith."

WE SHOULD QUESTION CANDIDATES RELIGIOUS BELIEFS

Bill McKeever, founder of Mormonism Research Ministry, a Evangelical Christian ministry challenging the claims of Mormonism, said "people need to ask themselves if Romney's Mormonism will affect them personally, and if so, in what way."

McKeever said it is not rare for Mormons to excuse the comments of their past leaders by classifying them as "speculation or opinion."

"To imply that the ban on blacks holding the priesthood was mere ‘policy' is also misleading," McKeever said.

Jabriel Ballentine, seminarian at Virginia Theological Seminary, said “everyone should question the beliefs of all the candidates”.

"We might not agree with all of the beliefs of any candidate. However, we must pay attention to the implications of one enacting their beliefs," Ballentine said.

SNIP

...The Mormons famously put their heresy this way: “As man is now, God once was. As God is now, man may become.”

Lds bishop John D. Lee. Convicted? (Yes...and the ONLY man so convicted -- and hung)

"I am a true believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ, I do not believe everything that is now being taught and practiced by Brigham Young.

I do not care who hears it. It is my last word - it is so.

I believe he is leading the people astray, downward to destruction.

But I believe in the gospel that was taught in its purity by Joseph Smith, in former days.

I have my reasons for it.

"I studied to make this man's [Brigham Young] will my pleasure for thirty years.

See, now, what I have come to this day!

"I have been sacrificed in a cowardly, dastardly manner." (Lee enunciated this sentence with marked emphasis.)

I have no clue what religion you actually are.

Tsk tsk...

I'd be ashamed to admit that I'd been posting all these years and not paying attention.

I worry that the Dems will make mincemeat of Mitt, ridiculing all the things that strike many as odd about the Mormon beliefs. While many worry that conservative Christians on the Republican side may not vote for Mitt because of his views, I think the issues will be much bigger in the fall, with millions of Democrats openly savaging him.

“We have a Muslim, a Catholic, and a Mormon. That’s all I’m gonna say...”

What an odd post. Who has them? Are you talking about presidential canidates? It’s an anomymous message board. Why is that all you are gonna say...? And by the by, if you do happen to be talking about presidential canidates, there are actually two Catholics. Does that make it worse?

Romney is as high in the lds corporation as one can go without being one of the “12”.

This keeps being said, but it just is not true. Has Romney been an Area President? Has he been in one of the Quorum of the Seventy? If not, then no, he is not as high as one can go before being in the "12".

According to one of the Noahide Rabbis, I should pray for your strength and peace and that your anti-Christian animosity is not common nor is it encouraged, it is just sign of your own weakness.
So I will take his advise.

Has MORMONism ever butted heads against the United States Government?

You mean, like, had a war?

A war against the United States? The Mormon War/Utah War? From 1857 to 1858? An armed rebellion? Where there wasn't a lot of shooting going on, and it was pretty much a standoff (except for those 120+ civilian men, women, and children murdered on September 11, 1857, and the six civilians murdered at the Aiken Massacre the following month - I don't count the people killed by the Northern Paiute at Fort Lemhi as part of the war).

That kind of butting heads against the U.S. Government?

Ummmm. Yes, speaking historically, it has.

Using your logic, I will also pray that I can handle your anti-Noahide positions.

16 Reasons Why Mitt Romney Would Be A Really, Really Bad President

Teacher to college class: "After reading this list who still wants to vote for Romney?"

#1 Romneycare was what Obamacare was based on

#2 During his time as governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney significantly raised taxes.

#3 Government spending in Massachusetts increased significantly under Mitt Romney.

#4 It turns out that Mitt Romney is a believer in the theory of man-made global warming.

#5 If Mitt Romney becomes president, we may actually have "cap and trade" shoved down our throats.

#6 Mitt Romney had a horrible record of creating jobs while governor of Massachusetts.

#7 Mitt Romney was a very enthusiastic supporter of the Wall Street bailouts.

#8 If Romney becomes president, get ready for a flood of liberal judges.

#9 Mitt Romney is incredibly soft on illegal immigration.

#10 While he was governor, Mitt Romney received advice on global warming and carbon emissions from the man who is now the top science adviser to Barack Obama.  John P. Holdren, has some very, very disturbing ideas: he once wrote the following....

#11 Mitt Romney has been a huge supporter of gun control laws.

#12 Mitt Romney once claimed that he was more "pro-choice" than Ted Kennedy, but now he claims that he is pro-life.

#13 During this campaign season, Mitt Romney has stated that he only supports partnership agreements for gay couples and not gay marriage,

#14 As late as 2007, Mitt Romney was a member of the Republican Main Street Partnership.  The following is what romneyexposed.com says about this organization....

#15 According to the Huffington Post, Mitt Romney has raised more money from lobbyists than all of the other Republican candidates combined.

#16 Mitt Romney is a big time Wall Street insider.  It is estimated that Romney has a personal fortune of approximately a quarter of a billion dollars, and Wall Street money is being absolutely showered on his campaign.

And then there is this -- Romney is a member of a non-Christian cult, Mormonism:

Cults, Movements, World Religions
Sects and Satanic Cults

Let's try that again:

There seems to be a lot of ‘de nile’ going on; voters WILL weigh the heretical _____ drek in Mormonism and hold it against Milt. The democrat political machine knows precisely how to exploit that, too, and have a sycophantic media _______ female dog minds to pound the blasphemies daily (though not one of the scum will have any actual objection to any of the blasphemies because the media are dead souls and could care less that Mormonism is an insult to Christ). Yet the stupid, go-along-to-get-along Congressional majority (read, what Mark Levin calls them) establishment continues to try and stuff the loser down our collective throats. I’d say it’s time for something to replace the feckless idiotic republican establishment.

Mitt should 'worry' about the MORMON things that will prove it to be a HERESY; not just 'odd'!

When voters realize THAT; well....

I've read both of Sarah's books, and have bought and watched her DVD production.

She's the perfect Republican conservative candidate and If it goes to being a "brokered" convention, it's my hope that Sarah steps up.

As “goofy” as Mormon theology is it will not cause Romney to hurt the American people. Most Mormons are pretty good citizens, follow the Protestant ethic and try to be honest.

- - - -
Actually, it will and sadly they are not ‘good citizens’ who try to be honest. Been there, done that.

Try living in Utah and you will see what Mormonism REALLY is.

Have Mitt Romney’s mormon beliefs ever negatively impacted anything he’s ever accompished or promoted?

- - - -
Yes. It is the basis for most of his political views. Abortion, healthcare, illegals, homosexuality...all of it has basis in LDS beliefs and policies.

Aside from that, he took a blood oath to put the LDS church (not God, not Christ) above all and to use everything he has for the furthering of the Mormon church. The LDS leadership will hold him to that, just like they did Bob Bennett, Orin Hatch and Harry Reid who all passed or supported earmarks or legislation because their LDS leaders told them to. Bob Bennett admits that.

The more I read about Noahides, the more they look like a pseudo-Jewish cult. Freaky stuff. And seriously, why not just go all the way and convert to Judaism. Seems like they are taking the easy way out.

You are correct there is some weird stuff out there.
The Noahide Rabbi I talked is a very nice man, explained that many Noahides are self proclaimed former Christians and to convert means they have given up their former selves, and their animosity towards Christians is a result.
Makes sense I guess.
He also said these feelings are not encouraged or taught.
That the person should be prayed for to increase their strength and peace.
I do understand the question, why not become a Jew.
Maybe I should ask him.
