T.D. Jakes says he has moved away from a "Oneness" view of the Godhead to embrace an orthodox definition of the Trinity -- and that some in the Oneness Pentecostal movement now consider him a heretic.,...
Oneness Pentecostalism denies the Trinity and claims that instead of God being three persons, He is one person. In Oneness Pentecostalism, there is no distinction between the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. It is also called "modalism," .
'It is encouraging to see T.D. Jakes moving away from the heresy of modalism. However, we should pray for him and exhort him privately and publicly to move into biblical orthodoxy without equivocation.'
-- Malcolm Yarnell...
"It is encouraging to see T.D. Jakes moving away from the heresy of modalism," ..
Yarnell said Jakes incorrectly interprets 1 Timothy 3:16, which says "He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory." Jakes uses that verse to argue for his usage of "manifestations," but Yarnell says the passage is speaking only of Jesus -- not the other members of the Godhead.
"The only 'manifestation' to which 1 Timothy 3:16 refers is the incarnation of God in Christ," Yarnell said. "... Jakes simply does not offer a proper exegetical basis for his unique theological term." .... Bishop Jakes isn't a new convert being discipled in the basics of the Christian faith. He is a celebrity mega-church pastor. Moreover, Trinitarianism isn't the 'meat' of some advanced doctrine, but the most foundational doctrine of the Christian faith. A Christian pastor affirming least-common-denominator Christian doctrine should hardly be news.. This can only happen in an American evangelicalism that values success, novelty and celebrity more than church accountability."

T4g — I’m not broadbrushing. you can check Metmom if that’s needed
True, however the Oneness ones are among the most passionate.
why is it not accurate? Seriously. Modalism is the nontrinitarian belief that the Heavenly Father, Resurrected Son and Holy Spirit are different modes or aspects of one God. How would you describe the Oneness belief of the Godhead.
FOTFLOL!!!!!!
time4good, make sure your computer is well grounded. You don't want any of those lightning bolts frying it.
Neo-Confederates are fond of claiming that the North’s “heretical” political views (in the Civil War era) were the result of unitarianism, whereas the South remained orthodox. In other words, unitarianism/oneness allegedly leads to centralization, whereas trinitarianism implies “states’ rights.” It’s somewhat ironic that one of the proudest descendant of Confederate soldiers I know is a Oneness Pentecostal!
I think this is great! Praise God!
yes and those like the Word of Mouth guys like Benny Hinn who says there are 9 gods and Jesse Duplantis who went to heaven to comfort Jesus
If you read the doctrinal statements I sent you'd see nothing like the bilge coming from Hinn, et al. There are nuts in most any segment of Christianity, including pentecostalism. To lump millions of believers in with TV charlatans is unfair.
It's SOP for some FReepers.
Couldn't tell you what that group teaches...All I know is what the bible teaches...
But apparently they have the same problem that your religion has...They/you don't believe what God said...So you change it...
1 Timothy 3:16, which says "He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory."
Who was manifest in the flesh...What's your bible say??? Maybe it was Timothy who was manifest in the flesh...
I'll stick with the non-Catholic word of God that God preserved for us...
1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
I don't have to worry about it...God makes it simple for those who will believe him...
What does the scripture say, he was praying to the Father. Trinitarians err in that they think Oneness Pentecostals deny the father. Let me ask you a question, when you get to heaven, who do you expect to see, three thrones with three people? A gray haired old man (Father) sitting next to Jesus with a dove or some mystical force (the Holy Spirit) next to them? The book of revelations has the answer... Jesus is the visible representation of the invisible God. I do not believe there are three persons. The almighty God made Himself known to us in the form of a man, Jesus. The Holy Spirit is God, God is a Spirit. Not a third person in some Trinity. If you take the three persons of the Trinity out of the equation it makes sense. Have you ever seen the contradictory original teaching of the Trinity?
I would say this is accurate. Have you ever attempted to take a serious look at the core beliefs of why we believe this way rather than a knee-jerk reaction as ex-communicating us because we don’t adhere to the Trinity? Ever ask yourself “why am i so defensive towards these people”?
(1) Jesus was praying to His Father.
(2) This is some of what I expect to see in heaven: there are other additional descriptions, but this is for starters:
Daniel Chapter 7
Verse 9 “I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.”
Verse 13-14
“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”

In all charity, there are two personages here, the Ancient of Days and the Son of Man.
May God bless you in your ministry. I do consider the UPC/OP to be mistaken, BUT BUT BUT, you and your group can have an effective ministry to people from a Jewish or Muslim background, for example.
Again, I don’t question your salvation.
I need to clarify, the book of Revelations says who you will see... Jesus not three people
If you could unwrap yourself from the Trinity, you might have a clear sight of what Oneness really believes... until then, your not seeing it clearly.
Daniel saw two persons.
The Ancient of Days and the Son of Man.
That's because the other 2 are invisible...
Seems people are desperate to come up with a logical explanation which their human minds can get a hold of...
Bible says we have a body, a soul and a spirit...
1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We are 3...But we are 1...
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
There is the 3 and 1 right there...
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Who in the world is 'our'??? There ain't just one up there...There's 3...But the 3 are 1...
If folks would just quit trying to rationalize it and just BELIEVE it, they'd be a far sight better off...
I mean, one group condemning another group when none of us has the exact answer...How silly...
A little bit of bible always clears up a lot of foolishness...
In biblical Christianity you can have the appearance of only one person at a time...You ever see any scripture where they are all visibly lined up in a row???
In fact, you won't even see one at a time...You will only see one, ever...And that is Jesus Christ...But the other two are there nonetheless...
