Vanity: Beware of False Prophets, False Prophecy
Excerpts from http://bible.cc/matthew/7-15.htm ^

Posted on 12/24/2011 1:00:53 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Excerpts:

Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Kings 13:18 The old prophet answered, "I too am a prophet, as you are. And an angel said to me by the word of the LORD: 'Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water.'" (But he was lying to him.)

Jeremiah 23:16 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.

Ezekiel 22:27 Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.

Daniel 11:34 When they fall, they will receive a little help, and many who are not sincere will join them.

Matthew 7:14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 24:11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Matthew 24:24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible.

Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect--if that were possible.

Luke 6:26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

John 10:12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.

Acts 13:6 They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,

Acts 20:29 I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.

Romans 16:17 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

2 Timothy 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.

1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Revelation 16:13 Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Revelation 19:20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh, God Incarnate. J. I. Packer says that the greatest mystery of the Christian faith is not the resurrection of Christ or his miracles, but his blessed incarnation—“the plurality of persons in the unity of God, and the union of Godhead and manhood in the person of Jesus” (J. I. Packer, Knowing God [Downers Grove, IL: 1993, InterVarsity Press], 53). Packer further states, “But once the Incarnation is grasped as a reality … other difficulties will dissolve” (Knowing God, p. 54).

The author’s commentary is well-crafted and profoundly informative.

Your accusation of modalism rests solely upon the author’s use of one word (man) which granted, the author could have tailored in a more suitable way. However, when read in context it is clear that the author is not a modalist nor is she implying that St. Augustine is.

No man is perfect. All of us are prone to error....including the author...and including yourself. That said, Christian charity on one hand, understands that the author could have crafted that particular sentence better while on the other, does not cast stones.

No the LDS do not.

What Child is this is one not included in the LDS hymnal. Probably because it references the Cross.

Consider these words of warning:

Prov 30:6 Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.

and this:

Rev 22:18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;

Mormons claim the Book of Mormon is God’s further revelations - an update to the New Testament. But the New Testament seems to say that there are no further books of revelation. We have everything we need.

***

When did God say you have every thing you need?

Your Bible was put together in 325 AD by the council of Nicean a bunch of political clergy of Constantine the Pagan.

The Holy Bible is a composite of many manuals and it only applies to that particular manual who the whole Bible.

The Catholic Bible has more books so to go along with your logic the protestants have removed books from the first Bible.

A must read.
So Mormonism isn't a cult to you?
Or is it that you simply disagree with Martin's inclusion of that sect?
I mean, if I wanted to do what you did (try to discredit someone) then all I would have to do is ask "What's up with Mark Hofmann and the Salamander Letter?"

Resty, as usual you are in way over your head.

BTW it's your bible too. You and yours claim the KUV. You can't have it both ways...

And I have addressed you about St Constantine in the past.

Joseph Smith was given the guns by Cyrus Whitlock, who was an LDS leader. I can give you many sources. Would you settle first for a 'scholarly paper' written by fairlds.org and posted on its site, together with this? I can give you many more sources, including those from places like Brigham Young University Studies, and www.lds.org with a little time. You know it's in the History of the Church, don't you?

So it wasn't a jailer, restornu. It was LDS leader Cyrus Whitlock who gave Joseph Smith two guns.

There was only one gun

No. Hyrum Smith had a pistol as well. He was shot and killed before he could use his. From the LDS History of the Church:

"In the meantime Joseph, Hyrum, and Elder Taylor had their coats off. Joseph sprang to his coat for his six-shooter, Hyrum for his single barrel, Taylor for Markham's large hickory cane, and Dr. Richards for Taylor's cane. All sprang against the door, the balls whistled up the stairway, and in an instant one came through the door."

See also the fairmormon.org article citing and quoting the History of the Church.

restornu? You have acused me of poisoning water. You have essentially accused me of lying. Had you done even brief research; had you Googled your own Church's and apologetics' materials; were you familiar with your own Church's "History of the Church" you would know that what I said was true.

Instead of studying your own church, it appears you've engaged in faith-promoting history and libel.

Do you agree that I'm right and your Church is right - it was LDS member Cyrus Whitlock and two guns - or are you saying that you are right and that I and the LDS Church are wrong?

I know better than to Ask a Mormon if I want the truth about LDS history and issues like this.

Let me ask you? Does the Mormon church teach you that you can become a god over your own planet, populating it with your offspring? Before you answer, please read this regarding my experience with the answers received and what the LDS Church actually is teaching.

Shame on you, restornu, Lying for the Lord.

Merry CHRISTmas to all. I apologize for interrupting this Blessed day with the screed above, but I'm waiting for (older) children to awake and I ended my prayerful repose by turning on the computer to find I'm 'poisoning water' and apparently a liar for daring to tell the truth.

I'm going back into prayerful thought and want you to know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers on this day. Thanks to all of you and this medium for what it is. My special CHRISTmas wishes to you, JimRob. Blessings to you and all you hold dear.

No such thing as a blood atonement never happen

Resornu, as I demonstrated with your comments about the guns smuggled to Joseph and Hyrum Smith by Cyrus Wheelock above, you may want to brush on your truthful LDS history. However, you are aware, aren't you, that Brigham Young preached and taught the doctrine of blood atonement, correct? Do you need sources?

Now, have you ever purchased a large tract of undeveloped land near Salt Lake City for a client? I have.

Have you ever had a local, Mormon, Title Agency try to include an exception for delays in construction due to anthropological finds on the property? I have (even though that's not a defect of title).

Have you ever had the Mormon finally, after questioning, explain that the agency tries to include that exception because they were sued once? Because it's so frequent that shallow graves and exposed bodies are found, and anthropologists must be called in to determine if the bodies are Native American (when they're usually just dead apostates - people who spoke ill of the LDS church, it's prophet and leaders, or who tried to leave Brigham Young's church). Because I have.

Have you ever thought they were making this stuff up until you researched and it and found it was true? Because I have.

Did your client ever purchase the land only to find three bodies on it (two shallow graves and one exposed body). Because mine did.

Did you ever go to Provo and BYU to the library with help of a client to do research on the issue and have the research librarians tell you that Brigham Young never, ever, ever, ever, ever preached about blood atonement (at a time when you copies of old issues of The Deseret News in your briefcase contains his sermons on blood atonement)? Because I have.

Do you know why Utah used the firing squad as its method of execution for so many years, through Gary Gilmore and all. Umm. It spread blood on the ground. You know, blood atonement and all.

Depending on which end of the range of numbers given - between 8 and 17 LEGIONS of us are out almost EVERY day for 1-2 years.

There were many false claims by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

Oh??

... the evidence is presented:

In 1976, the 137th section of Doctrine & Covenants (D&C) was submitted to the general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a vote to be "sustained" as scripture. It is a narrative of a vision supposedly seen by Joseph Smith in Kirtland, OH in 1836.

What the members who voted on this new addition to scripture were not told by "the Brethren," is that whole paragraphs (216 words) of the actual revelation as recorded in The History of the Church had been conveniently left out of the version to be included in the D&C. The reason for these omissions was that four obviously false prophecies were contained in the part of the revelation that was censored out. These were prophecies so obviously false that even the average LDS reader would pick them up. Therefore, they went down the "black hole" of Mormon history.

What exactly were in these missing parts? Well, if you go to the official history of the LDS church published by the church's own publishing company, you will be easily able to find the missing prophecies. Here is what is not in the new D&C 137:

[Joseph Smith:] "....I saw the Twelve Apostles of the Lamb, who are now upon the earth, who hold the keys of this last ministry, in foreign lands, standing together in a circle, much fatigued, with their clothes tattered and their feet swollen, with their eyes cast downward, and Jesus standing in their midst, and they did not behold him. The Saviour looked upon them and wept.

I also beheld Elder M'Lellin in the south, standing upon a hill, surrounded by a vast multitude, preaching to them, and a lame man standing before him supported by his crutches; he threw them down at his word and leaped as a hart, by the mighty power of God.

Also, I saw Elder Brigham Young standing in a strange land, in the far south and west, in a desert place, upon a rock in the midst of a bout a dozen men of color, who appeared hostile. He was preaching to them in their own tongue, and the angel of God standing above his head with a drawn sword in his hand, protecting him, but he did not see it.

And I finally saw the Twelve in the celestial kingdom of God. I also beheld the redemption of Zion and many things which the tongue of man cannot describe in full"

Now, if this were true, it was a truly inspiring and wonderful declaration! Unfortunately, for the LDS faithful, a short look at the official history of the church reveals the false prophecies contained therein.

First of all, Smith claimed to see his (original LDS) Twelve apostles all in the celestial kingdom. This is difficult to imagine, since there was already division between Smith and the majority of the Apostles, beginning with discord in Kirtland, Ohio. The first portion of the "missing words" shows his less than subtle rebuke of their resistance to his will. "...fatigued....tattered...eyes cast downward....The Saviour looked upon them and wept." Smith was calling them to get into line and submit themselves to his full authority. That's the carrot offered in the last portion, "I finally saw the Twelve in the Celestial Kingdom of God."

However, his "thus saith the Lord" must have had little effect on them, since at least seven of the twelve under discussion were soon excommunicated or apostatized from the church: John F. Boynton & Luke S. Johnson (1837), Lyman Johnson (1838), William E. M'Lellin (c.1838), Thomas B. Marsh & Orson Hyde (1838), and William Smith (1845)

How could they have ever attained the celestial kingdom under those conditions? They couldn't! They were not only accursed by their very acts of apostasy or excommunication, but fell victim to the LDS Church's own scriptural denunciation. D&C 84.40-41 clearly states:

"Therefore, all those who receive the priesthood, receive this oath and covenant of my father, which he cannot break, neither can it be moved. But whoso breaketh this covenant after he hath received it, and altogether turneth there-from, shall not have forgiveness of sins in this world nor in the world to come."

Although a few of these men later returned to the church, none of them were even close to the standards necessary for attainment of that highest degree of glory. The majority remained apart for life. Therefore, the prophetic utterance, "I finally saw the Twelve in the Celestial Kingdom of God." was obviously false. It would have been false even if only one Apostle remained outside the fold.

Second, the vision of M'Lellin preaching and working miracles in the south never came true because he apostatized from the church without ever doing it! (See above).

Third, Although Brigham Young did bring the Mormons west and was a great colonizer and orator, the vision of Brigham Young preaching to "men of color" in their own language, in some strange and faraway place in the southwest never took place either, or at least there is no trace of it in the very detailed records and diaries concerning his reign as prophet.

Finally, "Zion" (Independence, MO.) was never redeemed, has never been redeemed in the 150+ years since the prophecy was made. (See below, for more on Zion). Is it any wonder that the Brethren chose to remove whole chunks of this "inspired" revelation?

Four false prophecies for the price of one! (from –> http://saintsalive.com/resourcelibrary/mormonism/testing-the-prophecies-of-joseph-smith- )

We do not know whether or not some instructions through prophets were not included because they were judged to be false or unreliable.

Hold this thought...
