Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish
Catholic Culture ^ | 11/22/11

Posted on 11/23/2011 11:11:08 AM PST by marshmallow

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

Candles are always lit at Mass.

There was no statue and no incantations, but a couple of off tune songs were sang.

*****He used Mary as the vessel to accomplish that work on behalf of mankind.******

IOW, He had need of a mother:)

Mary is who she is because Jesus, Her Son, is who He is.

It’s really very simple to understand.

It’s not confusing to me, but it must be to protestants since I have never received a direct answer to the question.

God always had a purpose when He changed someone’s name and the name reflected the purpose.

What was Jesus’ purpose in changing Simon’s name to Petros?

That was a stupid answer and not worthy of anything more than a remark as to its stupidity.

I guess based on your posts you just are lost entirely saying Mary is the Mother of God. That Mary is the mother of God is the fundamental statement of the theology of the Incarnate Word. it is no small thing. Problems with Mary are co-joined with problems with the Incarnate Word; they are impossible to separate without destroying the Incarnation.

The Incarnation is critical to Christianity. God became flesh, chose to be born, have a mother, and His mother was Mary. This is essential knowledge to the orthodox Christian view of Salvation History. Who Jesus is, that God became incarnate, had mother - just like us - who gave birth to Him, nursed Him, watched Him be tortured and killed, as He watched her watch Him. Like a mother and her son. Think on this.

If you cannot fully conceive of this, you cannot fully conceive of Our Saviour, not in the way of the true Christian Faith.

However, if you can conceive of it, and relate to it as a human being, tempted and tried as Our Saviour was, and conceive of your own mother and relate this, in the same manner, to Our Lord and His mother… then you can begin to more fully understand the true Christian faith, God’s plan for us, His Incarnation and His mother’s part in it.

And you will no longer, having left ignorance behind, denigrate or minimize His mother’s crucial part in His existence any more than you would your own mother in yours.

Then, perhaps, approach Mary with at least as much respect and honor as you would your own mother, while contemplating who Her Son was and what He, whom she bore in her womb, brought into this world.

Mary leads us to Christ.

I.e., there was no final result of the trial of Paul, the Apostles froze in place, the Church went dormant, etc.

Until somewhere around the 16th Century when history started up again...

The Holy Spirit was on Sabbatical.

The Word became flesh… "was born of a woman"… and walked among us.

Wow....inserting something which isn't in that scripture nor in the context of what it is written in. That's why you guys end up twisting your own understanding of scriptures..you just can't let stand as it is written and learn from it! Sheesh!

In fact throughout that entire testimony of John's not once does He mention Mary...there's not a single reference . But let's see who all IS mentioned just to prove my point....you guys miss the mark time and again trying to pretzel your theology into the scriptures rather than let them speak to you......

We have God We have the Word...Christ.... We have John... we have the Jews.... We have all who receive him..believe

We have the children of God...... ......not born of the flesh..or decision, or a husbands will...'But BORN OF GOD"...(note not Mary)

We have the law... We have grace and truth... We have the Glory of the One and Only..Jesus.... We have the Pharisees and Priests...

All and more but not one mention of Mary in this fabulous testimony about Christ. Yet you just had to insert Mary into the picture when she is absolutely absent in this... and is the nature of your religion.p>

You are dealing with people who think that Jesus rebuked His mother.

People who think that while dying a tortuous death upon the cross, Jesus was only concerned for who would care for her after He was gone, when He said to the beloved Apostle, John, “Son, behold your mother.”

Never mind the fact that if she had other children, they would have seen to her care.

Yeah, yeah, if it hadn’t been Mary it would have been some other naive, virginal Jewish girl used as a vessel and then discarded. Mary had nothing to commend her to God, nothing that made her light one that He could see even before He created the heavens and the earth.

She was not chaste and obedient and devout in her love of Him. And, she did not of her own free will say yes to bearing Emmanuel to the world.

Their hearts are hardened to her and no words from you and me or any other Catholic here will soften them.

It is their loss and I am with Judith Anne. Mary is my mother, I love her and I sing songs to her, and I pray for her intercession with Her Son. Alleluia.

Oh Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Unfortunately for you apparently, she's in the picture of the Incarnate Word irrevocably, you cannot "absent her" from it.

You still show a persistent aversion to the fact of the Incarnation or at least to orthodox Christian theology. Which part of: "The Word became flesh… "was born of a woman"… and walked among us.' is not true? If it is true, why such a problem with it?

Not any more stupid than replacing the one true God with Peter like the CC does.

Thank you for your wonderful post with so many good points. So appropriate to think on during this season.

It is their loss and I am with Judith Anne.

Yes, me too.

Though sometimes I want to say: Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

:)

Mary leads us to Christ.

I learned long ago always read the last statement a poster makes to get an idea of what they are focusing on. Yours above revealed it all.

You really haven't a clue what that statement.."Mary leads us to Christ".... really is saying about Gods plan for the Salvation of men......dangerous ground you're walking..... But let me just say that the Holy Spirit knows exactly when His work of leading the saved and unsaved to Christ has been subverted and blasphemed by a/or false teachers. It does not go unseen or unnoticed.

Further People saved, and not, do not need lessons or instructions about Mary. They need to hear and be taught about their Savior Jesus Christ...and the gospel message He gave us.

This great work to reach both saved and unsaved is a co-operative effort between the Holy Spirit of God and believers in Christ.. who are sent to those He would have hear that message....and by hearing the Word of Christ, repent, accept His forgiveness He so freely offers... and be saved... and by doing so obtain Eternal Life with Christ.....Additionally ..... those who are sent to build up and instruct the body of believers in 'the truth' ...that those who hear what the spirit is saying...might learn to love Jesus more and more and follow Him.

There has never been, nor now, nor ever will be, any directive from God where Mary is or has been included or "Inserted" in that equation...only foolish men do so and that to their own harm. By doing so they have ...." missed the mark of the High Calling of God In Christ Jesus"...and mis-lead others from the rightful path of Salvation thru Jesus Christ... and Jesus Christ alone...and the truths He would have His followers to live by.

Again and again...Jesus is not mentioned...it's always someone or something else which is at the heart of their discussions....with Christ's name attached as means of qualifying their arguements or statements but never central.

How could Jesus ever be central to their life when they have lines upon lines upon lines of "other thans" fogging the mind and heart with so much clutter they have to lean on Rome to understand the terraine they're on....and then they are laidened down with even more lines upon lines upon lines, until they are engulfed with a huge ball of thread never able to break loose of.

can’t be a bigamist if one has died.

umm, Christians know He rose from the dead. He is NOT DEAD.

Christ is God.
God is married to Israel.
God is not a bigamist.
Christ is married to the Church.
Christ is God.
Christ is God.
The Church is Israel.

“replacement theology” came along in the 19th century and “replaced” orthodox, historical Christian Faith with a new heresy teaching Israel is based on DNA, rather than Faith.

“So how is your baptism different from John’s baptism???”

Christian Baptism placed me “into Christ”, i received remission of my sins and i received the Holy Spirit.

Christians have believed this for 2,000 years.

The deceit of the CC is going to be costly to all who hold it as their way to salvation. The CC is a heretical cult that has followed the pagan practices and rituals of Babylon. The symbols of Baal incorporated into the CC rituals and practices are an abomination to God.

Jesus never presented his mother as his Equal...never...

Jesus was the oldest son, it was His responsibility to always see that His mother was cared for. This was Jewish custom and also part of honoring one’s parents in accordance with the commandment.

Jesus knew, as he hung on the cross, that His death was near. ... and knew He was about to make the ultimate sacrifice according to Our Father’s plan.... Jesus was concerned about his mother and how she would live after he was gone..... He made provision for His mother by charging John, of his disciples,... whom He deeply respected and loved,.... to take care of her as if she was his mother. As is written in John 19:27, Jesus’ oral statement before witnesses made the obligation to the beloved disciple (John) binding.

How is it that one supposedly committed to and in love with Jesus Christ doesn’t even have enough interest to read the words that He provided for his Children???

Christians know Jesus Christ is fully God, always has been and always will be.

God gave to us and preserved His word through the Church.
No, God gave us His word thru His son Jesus Christ.

Christians know THE CHURCH is THE BODY OF CHRIST.

to unbelievers, this is folly.
