Is Prodigal Son Church and Older Brother Israel?

Luke 15:11-32

(KJV)

11And he said, A certain man had two sons:

12And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.

13And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

14And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.

15And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

18I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

Do you have any answers for the questions I asked you?

At the heart of the rage directed at those who take God's word literally and not allegorically is the fact that if the word of God is true, and if there are people out there who believe it is true and state that belief, then those who have deceived themselves into believing that major doctrines of the Bible, say for instance the Rapture, simply are not true, are extremely threatened and their comfort zone is cut to pieces.

Just because someone attends church on Sundays, and throws something in the offering plate, and teaches a Sunday school class, and golfs at the country club that the rest of the congregation golfs at, does not mean that they know Christ as Savior and are going to Heaven. The very idea that the Bible is the absolute inerrant, infallible word of God, and that not only have prophecies in that Bible been literally fulfilled in the past but the prophecies in that Bible which have not happened yet are in the process of happening, sends those who have allegorized the Bible into meaninglessness completely over the edge.

If the Bible is true, then they are finished. That is the source of the rage.

You have spent years lying about what dispensationalists believe even after being told the truth repeatedly.

I call 'em as I see 'em. Dispensationalism, in the hands of some, borders on a gospel-denying heresy.

I suspect dispensationalists may have a part in the end time pre-parousia catastrophe. Just, not the part they anticipate.

dispensationalists can provide Scripture for everything we believe.

Most of what I see are bald assertions that "the Bible says X" when it says no such thing. Some dispensational distinctive is eisegetically read back into scripture.

And, it wasn't me that launched into a tirade against Galatians 3:29.

In case you haven't noticed over the past year or so, I have nothing to say to you. Do not post to me again.

I've noticed. It gives me freedom to say what needs to be said. Most of my comments are for the benefit of others who might be reading.

AMEN, Giovanna! AMEN. They are betting that it’s all allegory. And grouping together to find safety in their bet. Against God’s Word. The prophecies that have already come to pass have not been enough to convince them that God says what He means and means what He says. He will do as He has told us. He has them in derision. And He will laugh them to scorn. God is NOT mocked.

Exactly.

They can't get to God and shut Him up and destroy His Scriptures, so they attack those who work to get the word out about the fact that God has kept His word in fulfilling His prophecies in the past and He is in the process of fulfilling His prophecies for the return of Christ.

The agenda here is to deny Scripture and to spread that poison to as many others as possible and to deceive and turn as many other people away from Christ as possible.

They know that if God is right, and if things are going to happen as He said they will, and if we are right in pointing out that the signs Jesus Christ gave for His return are happening right now, then they are doomed.

Many people are saved after hearing the truth of the prophetic Scriptures. Satan is not going to sit around and let that happen without fighting back and trying to shut us up.

That is what is going on here.

Oh, they’ll concoct some “red thread of dispensationalists”, back to the apostles. I recall one of them recently on FR claiming Origen, of all people.

this has to be one of the most outrageous posts i have read here on FR. this poster accuses those who hold orthodox, historical Christian beliefs on the Church and Israel of being “anti-Jewish” ( no proof of course is ever provided )
now, anyone who interprets the Scriptures differently than her is accused of “ denying” Scripture and thinking themselves equivalent to God! What a joke. All of these charges are the last gasp of someone who can’t defend their theology in the marketplace of ideas. ( something by the way liberals are famous for ) shut down debate at all cost.]

lee n. field is not of my “tribe” and i am sure he does not agree with a lot of my posts. however, his posts are always solidly backed up with Scripture and i am sure he firmly holds to “sola scriptura” for his doctrinal beliefs. he has always shown the utmost respect for the Word of God.
what has the world come to when orthodox, biblical and historical Christian beliefs can be attacked in such a manner, by someone claiming to know Christ as Savior?

one word of advice to GN, stop posting in the non-caucas threads if you can’t defend your position without the personal attacks and insults.

You know what “outrageous” is? Believing you are spiritual Israel. That’s outrageous. Believing that God has lied about His promises to that Nation and given them to a group of people who usurp their authority from doctrines of deceivers. Who claim for themselves covenants for others, while at the same time, denying the gift God has so freely given us at this time. And do so with all the pomp and circumstance that only fools would dare to exhibit in God’s face. That’s outrageous. Defending the indefensible in all its “glory”.

But there’s so much opportunity for victimhood there.

You get to accuse people of ‘lying’ and having a ‘heart of rage’. You get to say they have been ‘cut to pieces’ and are ‘deceived’ and ‘trying to deceive others’ and ‘spew their hatred’.

I mean, how can one resist such opportunity?

True Israel has always been about faith, not DNA. God did lie about his promises to “that nation”, the key is properly understanding who that nation is.

Matthew 21:43-46

Therefore i tell you, the kningdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it. When the chief priests and Pharisees heard his parable , they percieved he was talking about them. But when they tried to arrest , they feared the multitudes , because they held him to be a prophet.

Faith my friend, not DNA.

"And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham."

And so it was!

They are betting that it’s all allegory

Scripture tells us that the invisible things of him are understood by the things that are made. Can you think of anything that God made and used in scripture that is not an allegory?
1 Cor 14:10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

This Catholic commentary disagrees with yours:

The prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32)

The prodigal son, so called from verse 13, has a deep ethical meaning, but likewise a dogmatic, in which the two sons are the Israelite, staying at home in his father’s house, and the Gentile who has wandered away. As the message of pardon it deserves to be called the very heart of Christ’s gospel. We have justified these parallel lines of interpretation, for ethics and revelation, which were both visible to the Evangelist. Tertullian’s narrow use of the story is uncritical. St. John Chrysostom and the Church always have applied it to Christian, i.e., baptized penitents. The “first [or best] robe” is naturally assumed by theologians to be “original justice”, and the feast of reconciliation is our Lord’s atoning sacrifice. Those who grant a strong Pauline influence in St. Luke’s Gospel ought not to deny it here. The “jealousy of good men” towards returned prodigals, which has exercised commentators, is true to life; and it counted for much in the dissensions that finally clove asunder the Church of Israel from the Church of Christ (1 Thessalonians 2:14-16). The joy over a sinner’s conversion unites this parable with those of the lost sheep and the lost drachma.

You don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about.

You have enough problems of your own ignoring and discarding Scripture and never being able to validate what you believe with what God said.

You haven't been around the last seven or eight years to see that this individual is indeed very much like you- always denying the Bible and ongoing realities while never able to provide Biblical proof for what he believes.

A useful rule to remember is that when something doesn't involve you, just stay out of it. That way, you avoid having your own faults and shortcomings aired for the world to see, and you avoid making a fool of yourself.

Nobody was addressing you. Stay out of it.
