Hi. I'm Jeff. [Internet profile of a mormon.]

Hi, I'm Jeff

I am thrilled and honored to belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am a devout Christian.

About Me

I am a husband and father. I was raised in a family of 14 children (9 boys and 5 girls, all from the same parents). I'm the 9th child. I love people. I love to serve and give. I stay active physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially. I am an attorney. I also have an MBA and am a certified management accountant.

Why I am a Mormon

The fundamental reason for which I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is because the Holy Ghost has indicated to me in many undeniable ways that the church of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth with all the attendant teachings, truth, authority, rites, ordinances, and structure.

Thankfully, I repeatedly feel and sense this same personal revelation over and over and over.

As 1 Corinthians 2 teaches us, there two primary ways of learning: one of man and the other of God. In short, I joined the Church solely because God has told me to do so.

How I live my faith

I strive to "be" my faith. My faith is who I am (or strive to be).

I daily study holy writ and pray to my Heavenly Father. I do so personally and with my family. I have weekly family home evenings with my immediate family where we talk about holy matters and how to improve our lives.

I love my fellowmen. I strive to show this love in a customer-focused, kind, and service-oriented manner of carrying out my employment. I try to the same while volunteering in church and community activities and assignments. It truly is a joy to serve others.

I attend church meetings on Sundays. I also attend various activities during the week to support and uplift the youth in my area. I attend various training sessions and other ad hoc events.

I attend the temples of God regularly to renew divine covenants and renew my marital vows.

I also volunteer in various capacities with the Boy Scouts of America to bless the lives of the young boys in my congregation. The Church has adopted the BSA program as a vehicle for exceptional training and development of youth. I fully support this adoption.

That is also a form of "making it personal."

But I get goosebumps when I'm the center of attention!

Good thing you were married in the 20th -- and not the 19th century.

If you had then lived in a Mormon community, you might have had a lot more plural-wife interviewin' to do.

Here’s a thought. Let the Mormons exercise their freedom to practice whatever religion they choose here on Earth. If Jesus and God don’t approve...let them judge the Mormons, not you.

Here's a thought. Let those who oppose Mormonism exercise their freedom to include that within their practice of whatever religion they choose here on Earth. If Jesus/God doesn't approve...let Him judge those who oppose Mormonism, not you.

Hmm...strange how do you don't seem to apply your religious principles evenly across the board, Panaxanax. (But hey, perhaps that's what happens once Mormons are hi-JACKed into the inactive realm, eh?)

LUKE 6:27-36
27 ‘But I say this to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly.
29 To anyone who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek as well; to anyone who takes your cloak from you, do not refuse your tunic.
30 Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from someone who takes it.
31 Treat others as you would like people to treat you.
32 If you love those who love you, what credit can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them.
33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit can you expect? For even sinners do that much.
34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to get money back, what credit can you expect? Even sinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount.
35 Instead, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend without any hope of return. You will have a great reward, and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
36 ‘Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate.

At one point in that week before our wedding, I sought out a Mormon friend of mine and asked her if I could come over for coffee. After we sat down and exchanged pleasantries, I pulled out a notepad and told her the purpose of my visit.

Oooops!

She told me that a large part of her happiness came from the church, but it wasn’t just the church. It was her and her husband making a commitment to walk a walk together.

HMMmmm...

The 'church' and 'commitments'...

I take it that you are NOT a MORMON?

It was her and her husband making a commitment to walk a walk together. To share the same basic values.

Sounds like Glenn Beck's story.

First of all, I am not Mormon. I strongly disagree with the way they treat their children.

Second, you caught me. We didn’t have coffee. It was half a life-time ago and I misremembered what the refreshment was. I remember that it was hot and was in a cup. I am an avid coffee drinker, so my brain went there.

Third, my friend mentioned that it was through their church that hey got their common values. Her point was that we had to have a common set of shared values. And she’s right. What couple has a good chance if they don’t see eye-to-eye on basic moral issues?

Third, husband and wife, working as a team, a partnership. Two in sync. That *is* a great marriage.

Fourth, I’m sorry that a story about a nice, helpful woman upset you so much.

And finally, I’m a Jewish convert. So I’m sure that this makes me all evil and wrong in your eyes anyway. I think that the Mormon religion is built on BS, but Mormons are not bad people.

First; I am not upset; and second, whatEVER gave you THIS idea?

. So I’m sure that this makes me all evil and wrong in your eyes anyway.

I think that the Mormon religion is built on BS, but Mormons are not bad people.

I find nothing wrong with this statement either; other than MORMONs are no gooder or badder than any of us.

I have been wondering though, about the good information you received from this long time married, happy woman: could any other lady have given you the same information?

Was there anything specifically MORMON about it?

I remember that it was hot and was in a cup.

I've not caught YOU; but your MORMON friend.

Their scripture does NOT prohibit coffee.

It prohibits HOT drinks.

I have NO idea how they can't READ somethinbg as plain as what follows and not get it right.

(Can I blame it on their MORMONism ;^)?

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 89

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, February 27, 1833. HC 1: 327–329. As a consequence of the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings, the Prophet was led to ponder upon the matter; consequently he inquired of the Lord concerning it. This revelation, known as the Word of Wisdom, was the result. The first three verses were originally written as an inspired introduction and description by the Prophet.

1–9, Use of wine, strong drinks, tobacco, and hot drinks proscribed; 10–17, Herbs, fruits, flesh, and grain are ordained for the use of man and of animals; 18–21, Obedience to gospel law, including the Word of Wisdom, brings temporal and spiritual blessings.

1 A aWord OF Wisdom, for the benefit of the council of high priests, assembled in Kirtland, and the church, and also the saints in Zion—
2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the aword of wisdom, showing forth the order and bwill of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days—
3 Given for a principle with apromise, adapted to the capacity of the bweak and the weakest of all csaints, who are or can be called saints.
4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of aevils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of bconspiring men in the last days, I have cwarned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—
5 That inasmuch as any man adrinketh bwine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.
6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, apure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.
7 And, again, astrong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.
8 And again, tobacco is not for the abody, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.
9 And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.
10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome aherbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—
11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with aprudence and bthanksgiving.
  12 Yea, aflesh also of bbeasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used csparingly;
13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be aused, only in times of winter, or of cold, or bfamine.
  14 All agrain is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life, not only for man but for the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and all wild animals that run or creep on the earth;
15 And athese hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger.
16 All grain is good for the afood of man; as also the bfruit of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground—
17 Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain.
  18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, ashall receive bhealth in their navel and marrow to their bones;
  19 And shall afind bwisdom and great ctreasures of dknowledge, even hidden treasures;
20 And shall arun and not be bweary, and shall walk and not faint.
21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the adestroying angel shall bpass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen.

Agreed.

“I have been wondering though, about the good information you received from this long time married, happy woman: could any other lady have given you the same information?”

Was there anything specifically MORMON about it?”

Nope. My point was that Mormon’s are not all insane cult followers. Many are just decent, normal folk going about their business.

That’s about it.

I'm curious. What does all this have to do with Jeff's claim of being a "devout Christian"? So, he's a "devout husband", a "devout father", a "good friend", "works hard" etc. etc.

The point of the mormon ad campaign is to convince folks that mormons are Christians, "just like you". (Also to aid Romney's run for POTUS).

Latter-day Saints launch "I'm a Mormon" ad campaign

Who have not either done any research into what their chosen religion teaches or don't care what it teaches.
