China Arrests Catholic Priests, Church Members as Persecution Intensifies

Priests and church members in China’s immense underground Catholic Church were arrested this weekend in the community of Tianshui — as the Chinese government continues its persecution of Christians.

Among those rounded up were the administrator of the underground diocese, Father John Baptist Wang Ruohan, retired Bishop Casmir Wang Milu, Father John Wang Ruowang, as well as several other priests and dozens of parish lay leaders, according to sources.

Bishop Wang and the two Wang priests are all brothers. They are being held in different places and subjected to political indoctrination sessions designed to break their will. The Chinese government prohibits Chinese Catholics from having any contact with the Pope or the rest of the worldwide church – and insists they participate in a government-run Catholic church not recognized by Vatican.

The vast majority of Chinese Catholics have refused, instead worshipping in makeshift “house churches” with priests and bishops ordained by the church in Rome. The Vatican automatically excommunicates any priest or bishop who joins the Chinese-government church. Recently, Pope Benedict XIV extended leniency, suggesting that excommunication might not be mandatory for priests who come under extraordinary coercion by the Chinese government.

The underground diocese of Tianshui had maintained a comfortable relationship with the police and government authorities. The two Tianshui communities, the official and underground, have a total of 20 thousand faithful and 27 priests, 15 of which belong to the underground community. In 2003, Monseignor. Wang Milu retired. The government-appointed bishop, Jinglong Augustine Zhao died in 2004 and the government appointed in his place his nephew, Zhao Jianzhang Woods.

We so much take the expression of Faith and the Eucharist for granted. We would do well to speak here against the culture of death and decadence and in so doing offer our spiritual solidarity with the persecuted Church. Pray for our brother as they teach us the ways of sainthood.

After reading this, is anyone comfortable with our realtionship with Communist China? With the exception of Cong. Thad McCotter, no candidate for the Republican nomination for the President ever talks about China, and the current occupant of the White house could care less.

You are correct. However I am proud to say, all other things aside, congressman Wolfe spoke out against the “preferred trading partner” status extended to China in the 90s in exchange for the generous campaign contributions waned by the ChiComs to the Clinton campaign. Wolfe, Smith and a few others have and continue to speak out against persecution though few listen.

In Cong. McCotter’s book, SEIZE FREEDOM, he refers to the dysfunctional ideology that China “isn’t really Communist” as the “China Fantasy”, a term he attributed to John Tkachik of the Heritage Foundation. Religious persecution, gulags, slave labor, executions, harvesting of body parts, all ignored, along with the threat of what Communist China really is; “a strategic threat and rival model of government to America.” And all ignored by the current crop of Presidential candidates, except Thad McCotter.

McCotter speaks passionately, in his low keyed style, and cogently on the matter of Chinese tyranny and repression. I am thankful for his voice.

Perhaps a worldwide boycott of Chinese goods by Catholics may send these commies a message. I suggest the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in all countries call for such a boycott. Our bishops need to show solidarity with their Catholic brethren and sisters. Statements of condemnation and the Hillary Clinton kind of showing “grave concerns” do very little.

Yet we elected a president who hangs Christmas ornaments of Mao Tse Tung on the “Holiday Tree” of the United States:

I’m sure Joe Biden can understand their need for doing so.

I guess our Catholic VP Joe Biden thinks this is okay, along with the one child policy of China that kills unborn girls...

That is our Catholic Vice President Joe Biden.

But CINO -- Catholic in Name Only -- better describes Joe and Nancy Pelosi.
