In response to whether the public should vote for a Mormon for president, one should know what beliefs a candidate had.
Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman have Mormon roots and they have been vague about their beliefs and loyalty to the LDS church.
Mormon theology includes ideas like their priesthood brethren will become the government leaders, or future kings of the world, in a globalized theocracy, and that their male leaders will take over when a second coming of Christ occurs. They believe they are the pre-ordained leaders to rule over a coming theocratic kingdom.
Worthy Mormon males are temple attending, dressing in white with special learned handshakes, altar rituals, Masonic rites and gestures and do secretive activities different from normal society.
They believe they are the future gods of new worlds in a life after this one. They follow prophets with ever-changing doctrine and change their fictional "Book of Mormon" every time it is found to be un-politically correct.
Their women are taught they are good for breeding, to have large families.
A member of this cult is loyal to its church leaders and to whatever their modern prophets tell them is gospel, which changes at their will.
They claim to be Christian, but Mormon polytheism of many gods/goddesses in a hereafter, rituals that must be performed in their temples, garment wearing and works (not grace) that saves a person is different ideology.
It is debatable whether Mormons are Christians, and they have other scriptures special to Mormonism written by their leaders, not just the New Testament, like their Doctrine and Covenants and Book of Mormon.
To learn about them and their practices, beliefs and personal character will help us determine whether they are the future leaders of Americans. Or are they really stuck in their controversial past?
Nothing new under the sun.
The DEMOCRATIC party has captured the village, looted it and burned most of the Constitution, and the REPUBLICANs are getting the blame for it!
How could they have a 1st Lincoln Militia before we had Lincoln as president?
We live in a STRANGE world!
BM; I give you permission to call me a liar anytime you wish.
Just be sure you have the evidence to back it up.
I do NOT want to be spreading FALSE information!
(I've read a zillion [less than a googol] of these type of signs in the USA, and anytime 'enemy' showed up; it wasn't US! Sorry Canada!)
TN, looks like I’ll get it!
Guess my Demo - Repub allegory falls flat.
Inaccurate but true!
Lincoln County Ontario was named for another Lincoln

While i’m not saying the show is realistic, I found it interesting how “Big Love” had a fight between the LDS church and the polygamist’s new church over the use of the term “mormon”.
I only fight with people who take positive action to provoke an argument. I don’t run around on Catholic threads picking fights with ever Catholic over church dotrine that claims my faith is less perfected, or that I am doing things wrong. I also don’t expect Lutherans to run around on the threads apologizing for everything Martin Luther said.
I also don’t apologize for what John Boehner says, or for what other leaders of groups I might happen to be a member of say, much less apologize or expect apologies for what long-dead leaders of organizations said that people are now members of.
I’m not a fan AT ALL of the guilt-by-association, victimhood “I need an apology” crap, whether it’s in the religion forum or political forums.
No, I don’t think I would bet on that. I certainly think that, all other things being equal, Mormons will vote for a Mormon over a non-Mormon. I would also believe that they would do so at a higher rate than mainstream religions, and would suggest that might be because they have a more cohesive bond within their faith, although that would be speculation. This effect would be much like the Catholic effect from the a few decades ago, where for example we hadn’t had a Catholic President, and a lot of Catholics who would otherwise vote republican ended up voting for Kennedy because they felt it was “time” for a Catholic.
Beyond that, I would want to see the actual data for specific elections, which would give me a sound basis for making predictions. I’d guess that mormons would vote for a less-conservative Mormon over a more-conservative non-Mormon. They might have a real problem with fundamentalist Christian politicians, especially if they are from denominations which more vocally denounce the Mormon faith.
My statement really was about a specific race — the evidence I’ve seen was counter to the claim, so I questioned the claim, and I’ve seen little to show that the claim was correct.
Here is my last speculation on that subject; I think in a national race, the propensity of Mormons to vote for a Mormon candidate I believe would be nullified by the propensity of evangelical and fundamentalist Christians to tend to NOT vote for a Mormon. So it might help a candidate in states with larger Mormon populations, but hurt them in states with strong Christian voting blocks. I think we saw that to some degree in the 2008 election, and Huckabee definitely tried to play on that possibility.
True; but I'll go further and state...
I certainly think that, even if other things are UN-equal, Mormons will vote for a Mormon over a non-Mormon.
Thank GOD for folks who actually will EXPOSE false teachings!
Read 'em and weep. The Battle of Stoney Creek was the beginning of the end. The Battle of Lundy's Lane was the end. The Americans bravely turned their tails and fled. You may apologize at your leisure. :)
Apology accepted!!!!
You may purchase unreasonably large quantities of good Canadian beer for me next time we meet.
