God told Joseph to marry Mary. He did it. He waited to consummate the marriage until after the birth of Jesus.Well there we have it. The triumph of Y.O.P.I.O.S., one protty says Joseph was engaged to Mary, the other says he actually married her but delayed consummation until the Birth. Both are convinced they are right. Who knows?
She became the Mother of God, in which work so many and such great good things are bestowed on her as pass man's understanding. For on this there follows all honor, all blessedness, and her unique place in the whole of mankind, among which she has no equal, namely, that she had a child by the Father in heaven, and such a Child . . . Hence men have crowded all her glory into a single word, calling her the Mother of God . . . None can say of her nor announce to her greater things, even though he had as many tongues as the earth possesses flowers and blades of grass: the sky, stars; and the sea, grains of sand. It needs to be pondered in the heart what it means to be the Mother of God. (Commentary on the Magnificat, 1521; in Luther's Works, Pelikan et al, vol. 21, 326)
Given that, "the lot is in the lap of the Lord", just flip a coin in this case and in other cases uses the appropriate number of die to cover competing interpretations. Churches can help out the faithful by selling approved twelve sided die that have been prayed over the same way some churches now sell prayer hankies.
There you have it, Sola Aleae perfects Sola Scriptura.
Why? I disagree with Luther on this...it is enough to recognize Mary as the Mother of Jesus....she is not central..He is... Furthermore, though Jesus is indeed God..I do not see mary as the mother of God....who needs no mother...He is God.
Thankfully, Luther got one thing right.
You would know too if you would read a bible...
They sell 'em down to the five and dime...Cheap too...With the red letters...
