Good story. I’ve read some of Gen. Bunting’s articles over the years. I’d like to meet him.

Bless your heart. I’m sure it’s never occurred to him to study and evaluate the Church’s Marian teachings and devotions. After all, it’s obvious from this article, his career, and his publication history that he’s a light-minded and barely-literate man ... like St. Thomas More, for example, or Pope Benedict.

I got to know Si Bunting quite well when he was the president of the college I went to (before he went to VMI). He is one of the most fascinating people I've ever met in my life.

Now now, Mary died for no ones sins. Pope Pius IX said that 'all Salvation' is obtained in Mary. Ubi Primam 1849. Thus he said 'all salvation' for the catholic is obtained in Mary.
Could you explain how she did it?

I’m fascinated by the number of “I’m now a Catholic but I used to be an unsaved Protestant” posts that show up here.
All I know is that we’ve met dozens of ex-Catholics at our non-affiliated community church over the last few years, and since it’s a big place (22,000 for Easter worships) I’m sure there’s a lot more where those came from.
If Maryolatry wasn’t such an entrenched tradition the Catholic beliefs might be more compelling, but... there you go.

Why, you’ve found a couple of out-of-context quotes. Isn’t that clever? You could find the entire text of Pope Pius IX’s document at NewAdvent.org, and then, assuming good reading comprehension, you could understand the exact meaning he intended to convey. Having achieved this, you could either agree or disagree with the belief presented.
Don’t you think Gen. Bunting would be able to do something like that, if this particularly phrasing were of deep concern to him? Do you imagine he reached the age of 70, and his high military and academic positions, without ever encountering the Basic Anti-Catholic Talking Points?

I’m sure that’s true. Why, he taught at the same school as Stonewall Jackson. It just gives me the shivers ;-).

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting (both personally and professionally) a few VMI grads over the years. Outstanding gentlemen, all.

Ubi Primam That would be "Ubi Primum". You guys never seem to get the Latin right.
Thus he said 'all salvation' for the catholic is obtained in Mary.
No, he said "every hope, every grace, and all salvation" came through Mary, because it was God's will that it be so. Not the same thing at all.
Jesus came through Mary. Jesus is all salvation. Ergo, all salvation came through Mary.

"I wonder if he knows his Salvation in now in Mary." Those who repeat that old lie need to get used to hearing, "I never knew you" since that's the end result of such lies catching up with them. Especially those who think their salavation is in what (You Name Here) interprets the Scripture to mean based on the "Lego Block Method of Biblical Interpretation".
